Filter by:The incidence of diabetes in children, which is constantly increasing worldwide is estimated in mainland France at about 15/100 000 per year with a wide disparity between countries and a north gradient South. In Reunion island, about 30 children a year seem to reveal diabetes before the age of 18 years but no precise data has ever been published on this subject. Indeed, while type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent autoimmune) represents historically the majority of cases of diabetes revealed at pediatric age (about 90%), since a little more than 10 years other types of diabetes seem emerge at pediatric age. This is particularly the case of type 2 diabetes in connection with the global epidemic of obesity. The purpose of the investigator's study is the exhaustive prospective collection of all cases of diabetes revealed before the age of 18 in the Reunion region over a period of 5 years.
The aim of this study is to accomplish the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, in patients over 60 years of age with newly diagnosed diabetes. Only patients with type 2 diabetes are meant to be included. The early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer could be the way to enable efficient cure for the patients.
To develop, using barcode systems and virtual pillbox (TuMedicina and Alice), an App aimed at patients and carers of patients with cardiometabolic diseases as the main diagnosis, over 45 years of age, who have one or more pathologies and use one or more drugs on a daily basis and to analyze their effectiveness in terms of achieving therapeutic objectives, self-efficacy and self-efficacy in self-care or provision of care (as the case may be), healthy behavior, therapeutic compliance and safe use of medication.
The purpose of this study is to test whether eating earlier in the day and/or timed light therapy can improve blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. This study will also test whether these treatments improve other aspects of health, including the circadian (biological) clock, sleep, weight, body composition, cardiovascular health, quality of life, and mood.

This is a multicenter, randomized 2-arm clinical trial of two lifestyle interventions varying in intensity and format, in 400 older African American and non-Hispanic whites at increased risk of cognitive decline and dementia in the East San Francisco Bay Area. The trial will include two lifestyle interventions that differ in intensity and format: 1. Aerobic Exercise (AEx) Intervention that involves aerobic activities with in-class walking workouts and tutorials and carried out at the East Oakland Sports Center (EOSC) and Tice Creek Fitness Center (TICE). 2. Dietary counseling to support adherence to the Mediterranean-Diet Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay (MIND) diet to encourage increased consumption of berries, green leafy and other vegetables, whole grains, nuts, fish, poultry, beans and olive oil, and to reduce consumption of fried/fast foods, red meat, whole fat cheese, sweets, butter and trans-fat margarines.
GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RA) is group of antidiabetic agents very effective in lowering the plasma glucose concentration in T2DM patients . Currently there are several agents approved for the treatment of T2DM which are classified into two groups: (1) short acting GLP-1 RA and include exenatide BID and lexisenatide, and (2) long acting agents which are given once daily or weekly injection and include liraglutide, semaglutide, dulaglutide and budyreon . Clinical studies have demonstrated that long acting GLP-1 RA (e.g. liraglutide, bydureon and dulaglutide) produce ~1.5% reduction in the HbA1c , which was significantly greater than that caused by other classes of antidiabetic agents (e.g. DPP4 inhibitors, and SGLT2 inhibitors). Members of this class of drugs exert multiple metabolic actions in T2DM. They potentiate insulin-stimulated insulin secretion from the beta cell , inhibit glucagon secretion from the alpha cells and inhibit appetite and promote weight loss. Together, these metabolic actions of GLP-1 RA contribute to the improvement in glucose metabolism and decrease in HbA1c. Although GLP-1 RA produce a robust mean decrease in HbA1c (~1.5%), the magnitude of decrease in HbA1c in the individual patient vary considerably. Clinical studies showed that approximately one third of T2DM patients receiving GLP-1 RA experience very modest to no decrease in the HbA1c while another third of patients experience a robust decrease in the HbA1c. the reason for this large variability in the individual response to GLP-1 RA is unknown. Studies which attempted to identify possible clinical predictors that distinguish between "good responders" and "poor responders" have failed to identify clinical parameter that can predict the magnitude of decrease in HbA1c by GLP-1 RA in T2DM patients. Because of the central role of beta cell function in the regulation of plasma glucose concentration, the study investigators hypothesis that varying degree of beta cell response to GLP-1 RA action is the principal factor responsible for the large variability in the decrease in HbA1c by GLP-1 RA. The aim of the present study is to test this hypothesis.
Knowledge of the pathogenesis of ocular conditions, a leading cause of blindness, has benefited greatly from recent advances in ophthalmic imaging. However, current clinical imaging systems are limited in resolution, speed, or access to certain structures of the eye. The use of a high-resolution imaging system improves the resolution of ophthalmoscopes by several orders of magnitude, allowing the visualization of many microstructures of the eye: photoreceptors, vessels, nerve bundles in the retina, cells and nerves in the cornea. The use of a high-speed acquisition imaging system makes it possible to detect functional measurements such as the speed of blood flow. The combination of data from multiple imaging systems to obtain multimodal information is of great importance for improving the understanding of structural changes in the eye during a disease. The purpose of this project is to observe structures that are not detectable with routinely used systems.
This study will test the hypothesis that metabolic bariatric surgery will be more effective at providing durable glycemic control and reduce co-morbidities than intensive medical therapy in youth with type 2 diabetes.
The frequency of meals is a very important aspect of nutrition, with profound effects on human health and in life expectancy. Excessive energy consumption is totally associated with a significant increase in the incidence of chronic diseases including diabetes. That is why nutritional therapy is recommended for all people with diabetes mellitus type 1 and 2 as an effective complement to your medical treatment. For overweight or obese type 2 diabetic patients, a low-calorie diet along with healthy eating patterns are recommended for weight loss. Similarly, modest body weight decrease may provide clinical benefits in patients, such as improved blood glucose, blood pressure, lipid profile, and others. Data about the role of nutritional habits and energy density being important precursors of obesity and diabetes are well known. On the other hand, data regarding frequency and timing of meals and how these factors relate to corporal weight are not totally understood.
