Efficacy and Safety of Polymer-free Amphilimus-eluting Stent According to the Diabetes

Drug-eluting stents (DES) have been found to reduce the rate of stent restenosis compared to bare metal stents (BMS), but the first generation DES caused an increase in stent thrombosis. The second generation DES, including the Cre8Evo stent, has been designed to address these issues. The Cre8Evo stent is made of cobalt chromium and releases the drug amphilimus into the vessel wall, which is quickly absorbed and then lost, creating a BMS-like form. The Cre8Evo stent does not contain polymers and does not induce an inflammatory response. It inhibits cdk2 and RhoA, reducing the proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells. In diabetic patients, the Cre8Evo stent showed superior results in suppressing late proliferation compared to conventional DES. The Cre8Evo stent has been found to be safe and effective in clinical studies, and it has a superior effect in the clinical course of diabetic patients compared to other stents. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the Cre8Evo stent in actual clinical practice, specifically comparing outcomes in patients with and without diabetes.

Oral Health in Adults: Social Gradients and Correlation With Cardiovascular Health

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are rising in prevalence because of aging, unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle, and common NCDs are caries and periodontitis (here oral diseases) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Association between oral diseases and CVD has been observed in epidemiological studies, and suggested mechanisms include transfer of oral pathogen bacteria and pro-inflammatory mediators to other organs triggering immune response and systemic inflammation. Circulating mediators may initiate a response in the liver with production of C-reactive protein, serum amyloid A and increased tryptophan degradation, that contribute to CV inflammation and atherosclerosis. We have demonstrated that higher serum levels of these markers are associated with presence of hypertension and obesity and with higher risk of CVD. However, CVD and oral diseases also share many of the same risk factors, including hypertension, obesity, diabetes and smoking. Since the association of oral disease with CV risk factors mostly has been demonstrated in cross-sectional studies, the direction has not been ascertained. These CVD risk factors lead to changes in the heart and arteries (preclinical CVD); more harmful in women than men. If these conditions can impact development of oral diseases is not been investigated in large studies. Socio-economic inequalities have been reported for oral diseases and are linked to low socio-economic status (SES). It is unknown whether CV health and SES in midlife may impact prevalence of oral diseases later in life. It is also unknown if the oral microbiome differ by periodontitis severity and can be associated with inflammatory biomarkers, CV risk factors and preclinical CVD. The project will be performed in adults approaching the retirement age in Vestland county. We will combine their data from the ongoing Hordaland Oral Health Survey with their data from three surveys in the longitudinal Hordaland Health Study performed in the period 1992-2020.

The Efficacy of White Kidney Bean on Oral Glucose Tolerance Test

The goal of this randomized, double-blind, cross-over inverventional study is to evaluate the efficacy of white kidney bean on OGTT (oral glucose tolerance test). About 34 eligible participants will be randomized in two groups of the same size to take the assigned interventions at one study site in Shanghai, two visits will be required. The first group of participants will take Wonderlab product first and then placebo product after 72 hours of washout period, while the other group of of participants will take placebo product first and then Wonderlab product after 72 hours of washout period. For each visit, the finger blood will be sampled and the relevent data such as blood glucose will be captured based on OGTT procedures, and recorded into clinical data management system for statistical analysis. Researchers will compare the two groups to see if there is significant change of blood glucose by using products containing ingredient of white kidney beans.

Advances in insulin therapy and technology have been associated with increased obesity with 1/3 adolescents being overweight/obese. Since obesity runs in families and carries risk for poor outcomes psychologically and medically, the investigators are adapting our successful evidence-based Family Based Treatment for hybrid delivery to improve obesity and metabolic control in the affected youth and improve obesity and related co-morbidities in their parents.

DOORS: A Research Study to Understand How Oral Semaglutide Works in People With Type 2 Diabetes Who Change From Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 Inhibitor (DPP4i) Treatment to Oral Semaglutide in Italy

The purpose of the study is to look at the change in blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes who change their treatment from DPP4i to oral semaglutide. Participant will get oral semaglutide as prescribed by the study doctor. The study will last for about 5-6 months. Participants will be asked to complete two questionnaires. One will be about eating behaviour and the other one will be diabetes related. Participant will complete this questionnaire during the normal scheduled visit with study doctor. Participants will be asked questions about their health and diabetes treatment and lab tests as part of their normal doctor's appointment.

From Skin Fibroblasts to Neural Stem Cells to Investigate in Vitro the Impact of Diabetes on Adult Neurogenesis

Obesity and glucose intolerance or overt diabetes are increasing at an alarming rate in the population, and are bound to become a public health issue and a major cause of disability, loss of independence and high social costs in the near future. A large body of evidence has in recent years highlighted, among the negative effects of overnutrition and glucose dysmetabolism, also an acceleration of cognitive decline and of brain senescence, through cellular (vascular, neuronal, or both) and molecular mechanisms still incompletely clarified. Understanding how overweight and impaired glucose homeostasis negatively affect brain function represents both a major scientific challenge and an avenue to early detection and possibly prevention of this invalidating complication. The aim of this project is to obtain neuronal progenitor-like cells from skin fibroblasts in order to correlate patient-specific metabolism to adult neural stem cell (NSC) and neuronal function in vitro.

Participants and Investigators will be blinded to both study interventions. Humulin® R U-500 (U500/mL), a highly concentrated regular human insulin, will be used as an open-label comparator.
