Differences in Postprandial Glucose Changes

Following a meal, in nondiabetic individuals, blood glucose rises to peak at 1hr and returns to baseline in 2 - 3 hours. In T2DM, this peak is higher and prolonged. Meal plans for persons with T2DM should comprise evenly spaced, complex carbohydrate portions in order to avoid post-prandial glucose spikes. Researchers have developed an expanded line of Caribbean-flavoured, low-calorie meal-replacement shakes which have been formulated to match the macronutrient and caloric content of a commercially available brand. In this trial investigators aim to (1) examine the change in glucose levels post intake of Caribbean vs the commercially available brand and (2) to conduct a comparative sensory analysis of the two shakes.

Lisdexamphetamine vs Methylphenidate for Pediatric Patients With ADHD and Type 1 Diabetes

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an intervention involving parental training in behaviour management and medication in children with both Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity (ADHD). ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects around 5% of school-age children and adolescents, while T1D is a chronic disease requiring strict management. After initial parental training provided for parents/legal guardians, the children will be randomized to one of two cross-over groups, and treated with either lisdexamfetamine or methylphenidate first. After dose optimization for first 5-7 weeks, patients will be treated for 6 months total, after which they will be switched to the other drug. Researchers will then compare the ADHD symptom severity as measured by Conners 3 questionnaire, and compare the frequency of any adverse events associated with the therapy. As secondary outcomes, patient's T1D control and quality of life will be compared between the two drugs.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of progressive relief exercise on sleep quality in patients with type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is among the diseases known as non-communicable or chronic diseases that occur as a result of the pancreas not producing enough insulin or the body's inability to use the insulin it produces and increasing the costs of care all over the world. Counseling and health education are among the key components of diabetes management. Diabetes management consists of drug therapy, self-management, medical nutrition therapy, exercise and education parameters, and sleep disorders are ignored in diabetes management. The slightest disruption to sleep patterns has definite and direct effects on daily life and general health. Therefore; stay healthy; Sleep is necessary renew and repair systems such as to renew and muscle systems. Inadequate sleep quality can lead to impaired cognition, and sleep quality is an important aspect of life. Sleep disturbance or poor sleep quality is higher in individuals with chronic disease. Sleep disturbance in diabetes is associated with higher HbA1c levels and diseases such as diabetes reduce sleep quality and regularity; It is known to cause sleep disorders. Especially in Type 2 Diabetes cases, sleep problems are common. Having a chronic illness like Type 2 Diabetes can have an impact on sleep quality and rate alone. Complementary and integrated applications such as progressive relaxation exercise, which is one of the cognitive behavioral techniques, have been frequently used in researches in the field of nursing, due to its effects such as relatively relieving tension and anxiety in skeletal muscles, facilitating the transition to sleep and helping to reduce sleep problems. Despite the differences in progressive muscle relaxation methods, studies have shown that progressive muscle relaxation has important results in improving sleep quality in individuals with chronic diseases. In this respect, it is predicted that progressive relaxation exercise may give positive results on sleep quality in individuals with diabetes.

The term sexual (SD) dysfunction covers conditions that prevent people from having a satisfactory sex life. SD is a frequent and sometimes debilitating complication of mental illness and a known adverse reaction to psycho-pharmacological treatment. SD is also associated with diabetes, a common somatic comorbidity in psychiatric patients. SD is associated with both reduced quality-of-life and reduced treatment adherence, yet SD is far too rarely addressed between the patient and the healthcare professional in clinical consultations. The purpose of the study is to investigate whether targeted education of patients with schizophrenia and diabetes/prediabetes and/or their healthcare professionals in causes and management of SD: - Increases the number of systematic examinations of sexual side effects, - Causes changes in the psycho-pharmacological treatment, and - Reduces the severity or perception of sexual side effects. The study is a multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) with four arms, in which the educational intervention is provided to patients, healthcare professionals, or both groups. The effect of the educational intervention is compared to a non-educated control group. The study is expected to include 192 patients recruited from 16 assertive community treatment centers evenly distributed in four Danish regions. The study is part of an interdisciplinary project named SECRET. The educational intervention was developed in an ethnographic pre-study incorporating stakeholder engagement. Parallel to the present RCT, an ethnographic field study will be carried out to broaden the perspective on the effects of the intervention.
