Influence of the Phases of the Menstrual Cycle on Glycemic Control When Performing Aerobic Exercise in Women With T1D

This study corresponds to Task 8.1 of the project "Patient-tailored solutions for blood glucose control in type 1 diabetes- TAILOR" (PID2019-107722RB-C21). It has been observed in different studies in healthy people that the glucose rate of appearance or disappearance during exercise is attenuated with the coincident rise in estrogen and progesterone during the mid-luteal phase of the menstrual cycle versus the early luteal phase. The investigators hypothesize that in women with type 1 diabetes, glucose behavior when performing aerobic exercise may be different depending on the phase of the menstruation cycle. This analysis is necessary to improve physical exercise recommendations, both educational and technological, in women with type 1 diabetes, as well as improve the performance of artificial pancreas systems for automatic control of glucose levels under exercise in women.

Sarcopenic Obesity in the Elderly

Ageing is associated with progressive and generalized loss of muscle mass and muscle function, also known as Sarcopenia. Increasingly, obesity has become a compounding factor in ageing-related sarcopenia. The coexistence of obesity and sarcopenia is termed sarcopenic obesity (SO). Older adults with SO are at higher risks of developing diabetes, hypertension, stroke, cardiovascular diseases, and cognitive dysfunction than those older adults who suffer from sarcopenia alone or obesity alone. However, there is insufficient information with regard to the interplay between obesity and sarcopenia. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the impact of SO on insulin resistance in people aged 65-85. Our hypothesis is that SO positively influences insulin resistance in the elderly. We propose to investigate sarcopenia and obesity as risk factors for insulin resistance in the geriatric (65-85 years old) population.

Research Study to Compare Semaglutide Tablets With Empagliflozin or Metformin Tablets in People With Type 2 Diabetes

This study compares the medicines semaglutide with empagliflozin or metformin in people with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes. This study will look mainly at how well participant's blood sugar and body weight are controlled when they are taking the study medicines. Participants will either get semaglutide tablets, empagliflozin tablets or metformin tablets. Which treatment participants will get is decided by chance. Currently, doses of 3 milligram (mg), 7 mg and 14 mg semaglutide tablets (Rybelsus) can be prescribed in some countries. 25 mg and 50 mg semaglutide tablets are new doses. 10 mg and 25 mg empagliflozin tablets (Jardiance) can be prescribed in some countries. 500 mg metformin tablets (STADA) can be prescribed in some countries. Participants will get 1 to 4 tablets per day for 104 weeks. The study will last for about 2 years and 7 weeks (111 weeks). Participants should not have been treated for weight management 90 days before screening or never been treated with any medicine for type 2 diabetes (except diabetes during pregnancy) before screening. Women cannot take part if pregnant, breast-feeding or plan to get pregnant during the study period.

Influence of Aerobic Exercise and HIIT on Glycemic Control in Adult Men With Type 1 Diabetes (TAILOR/1b)

Physical exercise is one of the main recommendations included in clinical guidelines for people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) because it is associated with substantially lower cardiovascular and overall mortality risks. Adherence to regular physical activity is low in the T1D population due to factors like time limitations, no access to appropriate equipment at home, or economic costs. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) has been proposed as a time-efficient methodology, consisting of sessions of short duration and high intensity exercises. An easier and cheaper training alternative for HIIT is exercising with elastic bands, either in a clinic or at home. Even so, training with elastic bands in T1D in combination with the HIIT method has not been compared to aerobic training. Besides, it is necessary to understand the glycemic impact of both kinds of exercise in order to build better artificial pancreas systems able to deal with exercise automatically. The aim of the study will be to determine the impact of aerobic exercise versus high-intensity interval training (HIIT) exercise on glycemic control.

The HEARTS Technical Package was developed by the World Health Organization to address the implementation gap of cardiovascular disease prevention in low- and middle-income countries. Guatemala is a middle-income country that is currently implementing HEARTS. National authorities are interested in exploring how hypertension and diabetes management can be integrated in HEARTS implementation. The objective of this study is to conduct a feasibility and acceptability pilot trial of integrated hypertension and diabetes management based on HEARTS in the publicly funded primary care system in Guatemala.

Effect of Artıfıcıal Intellıgence Based Mobıle Vırtual Assıstant

Aim: This study was conducted experimentally to examine the effect of artificial intelligence-based mobile virtual assistant developed for individuals with diabetes on cost, hospitalization rate, self-care and hypoglycemia. Methods: The research is multi-stage and designed as three stages in itself. According to this; development of the mobile application in the first and second stages and adding artificial intelligence to the application as a project; In the third stage, it was planned to examine the effect of the application on the variables and scales. The data of the study were collected between June 2022 and June 2023 in the Endocrinology Polyclinic of two private hospitals in Izmir and a diabetes association where individuals with diabetes were registered. Power 0.80 was determined by using NCSS PAS statistical software from the population of the research; The minimum number of samples to be included in the study was calculated as n:122 and they were divided into two as intervention and control groups by randomization. The research sample was carried out as intervention (n:60) and control (n:60) lastly due to death and cost. Five data collection tools were used, namely "Individual Introduction Form", "Diabetes Self-Care Scale", "Hypoglycemia Confidence Scale", "Mobile Application Opinion Form" and "Cost Table". An artificial intelligence-based mobile virtual assistant application was applied to the individuals with diabetes in the intervention group, and the data were collected three times, at the 0th, 6th and 12th months, and the costs were recorded. The standard outpatient trainings, which are currently applied, continued to be given to individuals with diabetes in the control group, the data were collected twice, at the beginning (0. month) and 12. months, and the costs were recorded. In the evaluation of the data, number, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum median were calculated. Among the variables, chi-square, Kruskal Wallis, Mann Whitney U test and t test were used.
