Filter by:The goal of this clinical trial is to compare the effects of peer coaching models in older adults with unmanaged type two diabetes. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Are peer coaching models effective at promoting Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus self-management? - If effective, which facets of the peer model are most effective? Peer coaches will - Undergo peer coach training. - Reach out to peer participants on a weekly/biweekly time frame to discuss self-management and goal setting. - Retain records of contact, topics discussed, and general notes on interactions. Researchers will compare differences in the frequency of contact, as well as how peer coaches were matched to peer participants to see if efficacy of the intervention is altered between groups.
This is a single-center, double blind, randomized, parallel-arms study designed to investigate the effects of a six-month treatment with the SGLT2i dapagliflozin on markers of kidney senescence, inflammation and tubulointerstitial damage compared to placebo. These mechanisms of renal damage will be investigated in proximal tubular epithelial cells (PTECs) isolated from urine from patients with CKD with or without T2DM and in renal biopsy specimens in a subgroup of patients with diabetic kidney disease.
The efficacy of long-term treatment with different GLP-1RA (Duragtide, Semaglutide, losenatide, tirzepatide, ebenatide, etc.) was evaluated through 1-4 years of follow-up, and the effects of long-term treatment on blood glucose and body fat of patients.
To evaluate the islet function and insulin secretion pattern of post-pancreatitis diabetes mellitus by oral glucose tolerance testing, and to explore the pathophysiological characteristics of PPDM-C which provide evidence for the diagnosis of PPDM-C.
Exhaled volatile organic compounds will be measured during daytime with the goal to identifying circadian variability. The study incudes three subgroups: people without diabetes, people with type 1 diabetes, and people with type 2 diabetes. A total of 60 people will be recruited for the study.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the safety, feasibility and efficacy of pulsed electric field induced duodenal mucosal regeneration (ReCET system by the Endogenex with the Gen-2 catheter) combined with a GLP-1 receptor agonist (Semaglutide, Ozempic) in subjects with insulin-dependent type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Evolving technology and clinical innovation have led to dramatic changes in the management of type 1 diabetes (T1D). These changes have led to a need to collect a growing number of details from families during their visits. As a result, much of the physician-patient visit is spent transferring information instead of focusing on diabetes care, contributing to increased time pressures in clinic and unmet needs for patients. In response to this reality, the investigators have developed a tool that allows families to input their diabetes-related information into their physicians' electronic health record (EHR) documentation tool before their clinic visit, using a questionnaire administered via CHEO's secure patient portal (MyChart®). The investigators will evaluate the impact of an integrated electronic patient questionnaire, on quality of care (patient-reported), diabetes control and clinic efficiency. The investigators hope that our study will determine whether having families input clinical data prior to a visit is an effective strategy to improve the quality of diabetes care. The investigators believe that the findings will be of interest to all those studying the value of incorporating patient-entered data both within diabetes care and beyond.
The study was designed as a randomized controlled experimental study in order to compare the fasting blood glucose values measured by puncturing the fingertips and using the intravenous route of patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, and to determine the effect on patient satisfaction. The blood glucose measurement via the intravenous catheter has an effect on increasing the comfort of the patient compared to the fingertip measurement. It is thought that information can be provided to increase patient satisfaction.
Patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) are more prevalent with aging-related comorbidities and frailty, which leads to a shorter life expectancy than non-diabetic individuals and that this excess mortality is largely attributable to cardiovascular causes. Therefore, since diabetes accelerates cellular senescence, attenuating aging process in patients with T2D is expected to reduce progression of comorbidities and eventually increase lifespan. According to previous studies, sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors have shown increased ketone bodies not only in blood but in various tissues including liver, kidney and colon, which could lead to beneficial effects in metabolic diseases. Especially, β-hydroxybutyrate (βHB) inhibits oxidative stress and reduces insulin resistance, which has a positive effect on preventing cardio-renal-metabolic diseases and aging process in patients with T2D. In this context, SGLT2 inhibitor can be a promising option to alleviate senescence process in patients with T2D. However, despite the accumulating evidence that support anti-senescent effect of SGLT2 inhibitor in preclinical models, no clinical study has investigated association between SGLT2 inhibitor use and senescence patients with T2D. Thus, the objective of this study is to determine whether the use of SGLT2 inhibitor is associated with anti-senescent effect in patients with T2D, which may expand the indications of SGLT2 inhibitor other than glycemic control.
The goal of this clinical trial is to compare those using a diabetes management smartphone application (mySugr) to those not using the application. This smartphone application is for Spanish-literate adults with poorly controlled, non-intensively treated type 2 diabetes. The main question[s] that it aims to answer are: - What is the impact of the use of mySugr (a smartphone-based application or app) with structured blood glucose monitoring on diabetes self-management among Hispanic/Latino adults with poorly controlled, non-intensively treated T2D? - Will diabetes self-management be more effective for those using mySugr (the Active group) compared to those not using mySugr (the Control group) over a 12-week study period? Participants will be screened and enrolled if they are eligible; they will have the study explained to them in Spanish or English and have time to ask questions and then sign an informed consent form. Clinical measurements (including height, weight, and blood pressure) and hemoglobin A1c will be done. All subjects will be given a blood glucose meter, lancing device, and blood glucose strips for the meter, and they will also receive an electronic scale. Several questionnaires will be answered. If a subject is randomly assigned to the Active group, they will download the mySugr Pro app in Spanish to their smartphone and be trained in its use. They will receive education focused on paired (before and 2 hours after a meal) blood glucose testing, which participants will conduct twice a day for 6 days and once a month for 3 months. Participants will continue structured blood glucose testing with the mySugr PRO app for 12 weeks, and they will have 3 virtual visits in Spanish with mySugr PRO coaches who will review the blood glucose records and advise the subjects. Subjects in the Control group will not receive the mySugr PRO app or coaching. They will continue with their usual diabetes management. All subjects will return after 12 weeks to return the scale and have a close-out visit with clinical measurements and questionnaires. Subjects will also receive a disturbance allowance for their time and participation.
