Filter by:Albiglutide has been developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) as an adjunct to diet and exercise, as monotherapy, or in combination with existing therapies and has been approved by the United States (US) Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and other regulatory agencies. This is a 26 week, open-label, single group, multicenter, extension study to Study 200952. This extension study will provide extended safety, tolerability and immunogenicity data for the albiglutide liquid drug product. This extension study will comprise 2 study periods: treatment (26 weeks) and post-treatment follow-up (8 weeks). A maximum of 300 subjects will be eligible to take part in this extension study.
This feasibility pilot is intended to understand whether adolescents with Type 2 Diabetes (2DM) can be transitioned to a continuous subcutaneous insulin injection (CSII) and if so, assess whether CSII is a feasible treatment modality and improves quality of life (QOL) in adolescents with T2DM over 3 month period.

This study will test the effect of liraglutide on cognitive function in HIV-infected overweight or obese subjects with type 2 diabetes.
The goal of this proposal is to test the efficacy of a primary care-delivered, print-based physical activity intervention for Latinas with type II diabetes. The investigators will test the efficacy of this intervention by randomizing 80 Latinas with type II diabetes recruited through UCSD Health System primary care to either the adapted web-based physical activity intervention or standard of care, and assessing physical activity gains at six and 12 months. The ultimate goal is to develop a print-based physical activity intervention for diabetic Latinas that could be widely disseminated through primary care.
Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus are exposed to an excessive heart failure risk secondary to left ventricular hypertrophy and impaired diastolic filling, a condition not addressed by currently available treatments. The abnormality results from obesity-induced volume overload, increased blood pressure, and myocardial fat accumulation. By improving metabolism, body weight, and blood pressure, Empagliflozin addresses the root causes of type 2 diabetes-associated myocardial disease. We will assess left ventricular mass, function, and lipid content in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy as well as echocardiography before and after empagliflozin or glimepiride treatment. We expect to observe improvements in left ventricular mass, function, and fat content with empagliflozin. The results of the study will help to position empagliflozin as an antidiabetic agent with the added value of protecting the heart.
This study will compare two different models of a wearable bionic pancreas device (the iPhone-based bionic pancreas vs. the iLet bionic pancreas) in adult participant with type 1 diabetes. Both bionic pancreas devices measure glucose levels every five minutes and then give insulin and/or glucagon automatically to regulate the blood glucose (BG).
A single center pilot study assessing the Vigilant Diabetes Management System for the prevention of recurrent mild to moderate hypoglycemia in type I diabetes patients.
The study's goal is to promote accessible and cost-effective diabetes care through electronic means. Underserved populations including rural areas do not have diabetes specialists. Previous study data has shown the effectiveness of Internet communication in lowering a patient's Hemoglobin A1C, a measure of blood sugars, closer to the target number. The investigators thus wish to test the effectiveness of diabetes care provided by virtual means, including virtual consultations, online monitoring of blood sugars, diabetes education via web-based videos, and support/advice provided through phone or email by an Endocrinologist. The goal is to test if virtual care is a viable means to extend care for diabetes to underserved populations.
Diabetes and Periodontitis are both prevalent diseases affecting millions of Americans. Periodontitis is prevalent among Diabetics. Furthermore, Periodontitis and associated inflammation can increase insulin resistance in Diabetics and worsens the condition. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) has the potential to improve periodontal treatment outcome in poorly controlled diabetics. The study will compare periodontal treatment (SRP) outcome between 2 main diabetic type 2 patient groups receiving medical care treatment: either Conventional Wound Therapies (CWC) with or without adjunctive Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at LLU Health. 24 poorly controlled diabetic mellitus (DM) type 2 subjects (HbA1c =>7%) with Periodontitis will be assigned into the study arms HBO therapy and Non HBO therapy, based on their medical needs. For all subjects demographic data (age, gender, ethnicity, smoking history, alcohol use history, BMI, current medication list) and oral health habits will be obtained. Blood samples for HbA1c determinations, clinical periodontal measurements (plaque index, probing measurements including pocket depth, attachment levels, gingival index and bleeding-on-probing) and subgingival microbial samples will be obtained at baseline and end of the study. Subgingival microbial samples will be collected from three randomly selected sites and analyzed for detection of about 300 of the most prevalent oral bacterial species. Differences in periodontal clinical outcomes and bacterial profiles will be identified utilizing ANCOVA (Analysis of Covariance).
