Filter by:The purpose of this study is to determine if omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids as a monotherapy have antidepressant effects during pregnancy. It will also provide pilot data pertaining to relationships between apparent response to omega-3 monotherapy and both plasma cytokine and erythrocyte essential fatty acid concentrations.
AIM: The aim of the present study is to investigate if Internet-delivered Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (I-MBCT) can reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety among women treated for breast cancer and men treated for prostate cancer compared to a treatment as usual control group. Furthermore, the effect of I-MBCT on symptoms of stress, insomnia, quality of life, and self-compassion and the potential mediating effect of working alliance and mindfulness will be explored. Finally, the cost-effectiveness of the I-MBCT intervention will be explored. BACKGROUND: Symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress are prevalent late-effects among cancer patients and -survivors. Mindfulness-based interventions aim at improving affect tolerance and emotion regulation, which could be of particular relevance for cancer patients and survivors, and MBCT has been shown efficacious in treating symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress among cancer patients and survivors. However, the availability of face-to-face delivered MBCT is limited and hence using the internet to deliver MBCT may be a cost-effective way of increasing the accessibility of the intervention to vulnerable patients with limited resources. METHODS: A total of 155 participants will be recruited from Department of Oncology and Department of Urology at Aarhus University Hospital and randomized to two groups: I-MBCT and a treatment-as-usual wait-list control group. Assessments will be conducted at pre-, midway and post intervention and at a 6- months follow-up.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of intranasal esketamine 84 milligram (mg) compared with intranasal placebo in addition to comprehensive standard of care in reducing the symptoms of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), including suicidal ideation, in participants who are assessed to be at imminent risk for suicide, as measured by the change from baseline on the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) total score at 24 hours post first dose.
The purpose of the study is to learn more about computer-assisted cognitive behavioral therapy or "CCBT" and to examine connections in the brains of patients with depression. CCBT is approved by the FDA as a form of treatment for depression. It is done partly on the computer and partly with a therapist. This study will enroll participants with depression and participants without depression. The investigators will recruit a total of 100 participants: 80 with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and 50 matched comparison participants. Healthy control subjects will participate for approximately 8 weeks. All MDD participants will receive CCBT. Half of the MDD participants will all receive computer-augmented skills training with the Good Days Ahead (GDA) protocol immediately (Early CCBT). Early CCBT subjects will participate for approximately 8 weeks. The other half of the MDD participants initially will be randomized to a waitlist of up to 4 weeks and subsequently will receive CCBT treatment (Late CCBT). Late CCBT subjects will participate for approximately 12 weeks. All participants are asked to complete a screening, which includes a series of clinical interviews and self-report questionnaires about the individual's thoughts, moods, and behaviors. All participants are asked to wear an actigraph, which is a watch-like device that measures activity levels. Additionally, participants are asked to completed short questions and have their activity levels monitored through phone app(s). All participants (Healthy Control and MDD participants) will receive functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scanning at baseline. Early CCBT participants will receive fMRI scanning after 8 weeks of CCBT, and Late CCBT participants will receive fMRI scanning at the conclusion of the waitlist and after the 8-week course of CCBT. Brain activity will be compared between MDD and controls at baseline and between Early CCBT vs Late CCBT. The 2nd and 3rd brain scans of Late CCBT participants at the end of the waitlist and 8-week course of CCBT, respectively, will allow within-subject comparison of CCBT vs Waitlist treatment effects. This clinical trial has two IRB protocol numbers: 826910 and 832295. The data collected through both protocol numbers will be analyzed together to accomplish the target of 100 subjects for this clinical trial.
To assess the effectiveness of a 12-week multidomain intervention with contingency management for reducing depressive symptoms in older adults with major depressive disorder.
Comorbid depression and multiple medical conditions in older adults are a serious public health problem. As an important facilitator of health-related activities, families are already involved in various aspects of self-management of chronic disease in older adults. Despite the benefits they provide, informal caregiving activities currently are organized outside the medical system, which potentially creates redundant or misaligned efforts.The purpose of the mentored research is to examine the feasibility and acceptability of the FACE-PC, a theory-driven, multi- component, technology-assisted interdisciplinary team-based care model that systematically involves family in chronic disease management. It aims to optimize the patient and family's collective ability to self-manage chronic disease.
Depression is a highly prevalent disorder in Chile, generating important personal and social costs. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the internet-based program ASCENSO as an adjunct intervention for the treatment of depression. ASCENSO provides information to promote patients' self-care, it monitors reported depression symptoms providing automatized feedback and provides the possibility of booking a counseling session via chat or by phone. To evaluate the effectiveness of ASCENSO, an open, evaluator-blind, prospective, parallel-group (one intervention group and one active control group) randomized controlled trial will be implemented in one mental health center in Santiago of Chile. The sample will be composed of adults initiating treatment for depression, and who have internet access. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two study arms. Randomization will be stratified by the number of patients´ previous episodes (dichotomized into none, 1 or more), following a permuted block randomization procedure. Patients in the experimental group (n=100) will receive the usual treatment plus access to the ASCENSO program. The control group (n=100) will only receive the usual treatment. At recruitment, months 6 and 9, patients' self-reported depression symptoms and quality of life will be assessed. Additionally, adherence to treatment in terms of patients' attendance to medical controls and psychotherapy sessions will be registered for both research groups.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of TS-121 as an adjunctive treatment for patients with major depressive disorder with an inadequate response to current antidepressant Treatment (SSRI, SNRI or bupropion).
The primary objective of the proposed pilot study is to seek to compare the efficacy of two brief psychological therapies during inpatient hospitalization - cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) versus Behavioral Activation for Medical Inpatients with Depression (BAMID or BA) - for improving depressive symptoms, functioning, and quality of life (QOL). The treatments will consist of four sessions, which will be delivered during hospitalization.
