Art Museum Program for Seniors With Cognitive Disorders and Care-partners

As the population ages, there is increasing interest in developing innovative approaches to promote and sustain mental and emotional well-being. Recent studies have linked engagement with the arts with supporting cognitive functioning, promoting empathy and greater sense of life purpose. The need to develop alternative approaches to sustain emotional well-being is especially acute for the nearly 6 million older Americans who suffer from Alzheimer's disease. There is a need for quality activities that can be done virtually for homebound individuals with cognitive disorders and the individuals' family care-partners. The investigators intend to institute a 3-session virtual art museum pilot program for seniors with cognitive disorders and care-partners using the Visual Thinking Strategies approach. The investigators hypothesize that participation in a virtual guided visual arts experience will enhance emotional well-being and self-esteem for both seniors with cognitive impairment and the seniors' care-partners.

This study aims to assess the feasibility of a new, brief intervention, the 'coopeRATE Prompt', for informing conversations between patients and physicians in routine tele-health and in-person adult Cystic Fibrosis (CF) care. The coopeRATE Prompt is two questions designed to elicit patients' concerns and goals to facilitate collaborative goal setting within the health care visit. This is a prospective single arm study that will be conducted at four CF care centers in the United States.

Do Flavors Increase the Addiction Potential of Nicotine?

The FDA has concluded that flavors (e.g. menthol) are associated with greater addiction potential in tobacco cigarettes (Gottlieb March 13, 2019). Whether the same is true for e-cigarettes and non-menthol flavors is unclear and our study should help answer this question. Our major hypothesis is that the pharmacological effect of nicotine to induce addiction will be greater with use of a preferred e-cigarette flavor than with use of a non-preferred flavor. The pharmacological effect will be measured by how much a larger nicotine dose increases addiction potential compared to a smaller dose.

This two phase feasibility study looked at the feasibility of conducting a clinical trial in the outpatient and inpatient rehab setting exploring how individuals post stroke respond to different focus of attention cues. Focus of attention refers to whether individuals in are thinking about how their body is moving, internal focus, or on the effect their body has on the environment, external focus, during motor task. This trial will specifically look at the effect focus of attention has on motor performance and learning in individuals post stroke during lateral seated weight shifting task.

Regorafenib Plus Pembrolizumab in Patients With Advanced or Spreading Liver Cancer Who Have Been Previously Treated With PD-1/PD-L1 Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors

Researchers are looking for a better way to treat people diagnosed with liver cancer which may have spread to nearby tissue and is unlikely to be cured or controlled with treatment (advanced metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma, HCC). Before a treatment can be approved for people to take, researchers do clinical trials to better understand its safety and how it works. In this trial, the researchers will learn more about the trial treatment, regorafenib, in a small number of participants. They will study the results when the trial treatment is taken with another cancer treatment called pembrolizumab. There will be 2 parts to this trial. The part 1 (pilot phase) will include about 52 men and women. The part 2 (expansion phase) will include about 67 men and women. All of the participants will have HCC and will be aged 18 years or older. All of the participants will have tried other treatments that did not help their HCC. These other treatments (PD-1/PD-L1 Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors) are designed to work by stopping the activity of certain proteins in the immune system thought to play a role in HCC. During both parts of the trial, the participants will take regorafenib and receive pembrolizumab. In the pilot phase, there will be 2 groups of participants. The group that each participant joins will be based on the treatment they already received for their HCC. The researchers will review the results in each group to learn if regorafenib and pembrolizumab are helping one group of participants more than others. Outcome of this review will determine the population to be treated in the expansion phase.
