Peri-implantitis Treatment: Clinical Results of Conventional Treatment vs. the Addition of Biolase

The purpose of the study is to observe the effects of two commonly utilized treatment modalities to treat peri-implantitis and to compare the results. The first method of treatment is debridement with curettes and ultrasonic scalers and it represents the traditional approach in the treatment of peri-implantitis. The second method of treatment involves the use of the Biolase laser in addition to the traditional approach of debriding with curettes and ultrasonic scalers. No studies exist comparing these two approaches, and this will serve as a pilot study to explore possible differences. Our research hypothesis is that the addition of Er;Cr;YSGG laser is likely to be more effective in removing the microbiota from a rough implant surface, and that this will manifest with improved clinical parameters in subjects that receive this method of treatment.

The Independence Project is a study to evaluate the effectiveness of an intensive employment intervention for young veterans with disabilities recently separated from military service. The study is a randomized controlled trial comparing an intensive employment model (National Career Coach Program) to usual community employment services available to unemployed veterans recently separated from active duty (Local Community Resources Program). The investigators will evaluate if people who receive the National Career Coach Program have better employment outcomes and reduced Veterans Disability Compensation participation than people who receive the Local Community Resources Program.

Water exchange (WE) method has been shown to reduce medication requirement and pain experience during the colonoscopy. Cap-assisted colonoscopy aided by air may also reduced the insertion pain. Therefore, the immediate aim of this study is to assess the generalizability of the impact of WE plus cap (WECAC), as a potentially less painful insertion technique than WE. The control group will use water infusion in lieu of air insufflation during insertion of the colonoscope. The study group will added a cap onto the end of colonoscope during the WE method procedure. This study will also demonstrate if the WECAC method have a shorter insertion time and higher proximal colon adenoma detection rate (ADR) than WE alone in Veterans.

The goal of this clinical research study is to compare the safety and effectiveness of cabozantinib and sunitinib when given to patients with metastatic (has spread) variant histology renal cell carcinoma (vhRCC), a type of kidney cancer. This is an investigational study. Cabozantinib and sunitinib are both FDA approved and commercially available for the treatment of advanced kidney cancer, including vhRCC. The study doctor can explain how the study drugs are designed to work. Up to 84 participants will be enrolled in this study. All will take part at MD Anderson.
