Telemedicine for Improvement of Care for Older Adults With Cancer in the Underserved Community, The GAIN-S Trial

This clinical trial evaluates whether geriatric assessment-driven interventions with supportive care (GAIN-S) using telemedicine can be used to identify areas of vulnerability (weakness) in older adults with cancer and guide interventions to assist the patient and the healthcare team in the underserved community. The majority of patients diagnosed with cancer are over age 65 years, yet most cancer treatments are developed and tested in a younger population. Therefore, older patients with cancer are less likely to be offered standard treatments because of the concern regarding side effects. Geriatric assessment (GA) is a multi-dimensional health assessment tool combining patient reported and objective (unbiased) results. There is no standard tool that can identify which older adults will be more likely to have side effects from cancer treatment. Telemedicine is a way to provide healthcare services (including consultations, education, care management and treatment) in which the health care provider is at a distant site. The goal of this project is to use telemedicine to identify areas of vulnerability/weakness in older adults with cancer using a patient assessment, and to identify the potential referrals to a multi-specialty team based on patient assessment results. Information gathered from this study may help researchers learn whether GAIN-S can be performed using telemedicine and lead to improvement in care for older adults compared to standard of care (SOC) in the underserved community.

Time-Restricted Eating and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction to Reduce the Risk of Early-Onset Colorectal Cancer

The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate the feasibility of remote time-restricted eating (TRE) and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) interventions and the preliminary effect on EOCRC-related markers. The main question[s] it aims to answer are: - Is it feasible and acceptable to conduct 8-week remote interventions of TRE, MBSR, and combined TRE+MBSR among young adults with excess adiposity and moderate-to-severe perceived stress? - Will participants in the combined group lose more body weight and reduce their stress levels than those in the remaining groups? - Will participants in the combined group experience better body composition changes and improve their cardiometabolic health compared to those in the remaining groups? - Will participants in the combined group exhibit changes in the microbiome compared to those in the remaining groups? Participants will: - Complete 8 weeks of a TRE intervention - Complete 8 weeks of a remote MBSR intervention Researchers will compare 1. TRE alone; 2. MBSR alone; 3. TRE + MBSR; and 4. Control to see if the study is feasible and acceptable; to see if individuals lose body weight; to see if individual stress levels reduce; to see changes in the microbiome.

Placebo-Controlled Trial of Urolithin A Supplementation in Men With Prostate Cancer Undergoing Radical Prostatectomy, URO-PRO Trial

This phase II randomized control trial assesses the effect of Urolithin A (Uro-A) supplementation compared to placebo in men with biopsy-confirmed prostate cancer undergoing radical prostatectomy (RP) progressive disease. A total of 90 men will be accrued and randomized 1:1 to receive a 1000 mg daily dose of Uro-A in two 250 mg capsules PO BID or two placebo capsules BID daily for 3 to 6 weeks prior to RP. The primary endpoint is to determine the effect of Uro-A on decreasing prostate tumor tissue oxidative stress (measured by 8-OHdG) compared to placebo.

Comparative Effectiveness of Individual Versus Group-Level Interventions to Reduce Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/ Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Incidence

The HIV diagnosis rate among African-born Black women is the highest of all Black individuals living in the US. Correct and consistent use of condoms and use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) are two effective means of decreasing HIV risk among women, but they remain suboptimal among Black women. The specific aims of this study are: 1. To culturally adapt two widely utilized, evidence-based HIV prevention interventions originally designed for US born Black women (Sister-to-Sister (S2S) and Sisters Informing Sisters about Topics on AIDS (SISTA)) for use by African-born women 2. To conduct a randomized controlled comparative effectiveness trial (RCT) to determine the effectiveness of adapted versions of S2S versus SISTA on increasing condom use and PrEP uptake among African-born women. The adapted versions of these interventions will be given new names that resonate with the African culture. The adapted version of S2S intervention will be called "Dada Kwa Dada (DKD)" intervention while the adapted version of SISTA intervention will be called "DADA" intervention. "DADA" means "Sister" in Swahili and other languages in Eastern and Western Africa.
