High-Intensity Interval Training for Stage I-III Breast Cancer Patients

This randomized pilot clinical trial studies the feasibility of high-intensity interval training in improving cardiovascular fitness in patients with stage I-III breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy with trastuzumab. Trastuzumab helps patients live longer, but may cause side effects to the heart. Aerobic exercise may help the heart function better, which may help protect it against side effects from trastuzumab. Exercise may also help reduce fatigue and prevent cancer from coming back. High-intensity interval training involves short bursts of higher intensity efforts with longer periods of recovery. This may also allow patients who cannot exercise for a long period of time to still be physically active. This trial studies whether patients can tolerate high-intensity interval training, and how well it works in improving fitness in patients with breast cancer receiving trastuzumab.

Trial of Verapamil in Chronic Rhinosinusitis

Verapamil is an L-type calcium channel blocker(CCB) which has been shown to reduce inflammation in a variety of tissues. Verapamil has also been shown to improve eosinophilic inflammation in an animal model of asthma and also functions as a P-glycoprotein(P-gp) inhibitor. A major subtype of chronic rhinosinusitis(CRS) is characterized by eosinophilic inflammation as well as P-gp overexpression. The goal of this study is to therefore see whether Verapamil may be used to treat CRS.

This is a prospective open registry to measure the impact on first-line therapy of genomic testing of biopsy tissue from recently diagnosed treatment-naïve patients with early stage localized prostate cancer. Physicians will complete a series of questionnaires. Biopsy tissue will be tested using the Prolaris® genomic test and a relative cancer aggressiveness score will be shared with the physician and the patient.

This randomized phase III trial studies a diet and exercise program based on the Diabetes Prevention Program to promote weight loss and improve health in men with low-risk or low-intermediate-risk prostate cancer on active surveillance. A lifestyle intervention that promotes weight loss may influence prostate health. A combined diet and exercise program that is based on the Diabetes Prevention Program may affect markers (or "biomarkers") of prostate cancer progression. Gathering this information may help doctors understand how obesity affects prostate cancer progression and may help lead to a program that can reduce the risk of prostate cancer progression.

LGN-VN-003 is a prospective, multi-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a single oral dose of vanoxerine for the conversion of subjects with recent onset atrial fibrillation (AF) or atrial flutter (AFL) to normal sinus rhythm. Up to 625 subjects will be randomized in a 2:1 fashion so at least 400 vanoxerine and 200 placebo subjects receive study drug.

Intraoperative Anesthesia Care Transition Checklist

Perioperative management decisions must often be made quickly and rely on practitioners having relevant facts at hand. During transitions of patient care between anesthesia providers, known as "handovers," information may not be completely or faithfully communicated, consequently impairing the provider's ability to intervene correctly in response to subsequent events. Checklists have consistently proven to be effective at enhancing communications during handovers, but whether anesthesia checklists improve patient outcomes has yet to be proven. The investigators propose to randomize intraoperative anesthesia provider handovers to standard practice (no specific format) or to a handover checklist presented by a decision-support system in conjunction with the investigators electronic record. Specifically, the investigators will test the hypothesis that incorporating a largely pre-populated handover checklist into transitions of intraoperative anesthesia care decreases a composite of mortality and serious cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, urinary, and infectious complications.

Helping Stroke Patients With ThermoSuit Cooling

The aim of this study is to assess the feasibility of using the Life Recovery Systems ThermoSuit Device to induce therapeutic hypothermia (32-34°C) in victims of ischemic stroke. This feasibility clinical study will enroll a total of 30 patients with acute ischemic stroke at four clinical centers. Subjects will receive hypothermia plus conventional therapy (such as IV-tPA and/or neurothrombectomy therapies if indicated). Endpoints will include feasibility of cooling, adverse events, and neurological recovery in comparison with matched historical controls.
