Effective patient education improves health literacy and engagement thus improving long-term health outcomes. Health literacy is imperative to make informed health decisions and relies on the ability to obtain, process and understand health information; and is the cornerstone of safe health management. It is necessary to evaluate educational initiatives to determine their effectiveness in knowledge translation. A more effective way to provide patient education is to utilize media technology. Current education styles do not teach patients in the best way as they are not consistent with how people of all ages currently learn (through technology). In addition, patient teaching most commonly occurs during highly stressful times like hospital visits with new diagnoses. Current patient educational methods are costly given the amount of health provider time required. Electronic KITE teaching modules are infographic visual representations that present information quickly and clearly, integrating words and graphics to tell a story to reveal information. Infographic presentations are tools which facilitate self-directed learning with understandable, accessible information presented in an engaging way with an aim to enhance learning for children and their families. Patients are able to learn at a pace consistent with their learning style to facilitate knowledge development and health literacy.

A Trial of BXCL701 and Pembrolizumab in Patients With mCRPC Either Small Cell Neuroendocrine Prostate Cancer or Adenocarcinoma Phenotype.

An open-label, multicenter, Phase 1b/2 study to identify the recommended Phase 2 dose and assess the efficacy and safety of BXCL701 administered orally, as monotherapy and in combination with PEMBRO, in patients with mCRPC. Patients enrolled in the Phase 2a portion of the study will have either Small Cell Neuroendocrine Prostate Cancer(SCNC)(Cohort A) or adenocarcinoma phenotype (Cohort B), while the Phase 2b randomized portion of the study will enroll only the histologic subtype(s) showing preliminary evidence in Phase 2a. The study will also assess other efficacy parameters, such as rPFS, PSA PFS, OS, and DOR, as well as the safety of the combined treatment. The study will consist of three components.

Dried Blood Spot Testing of CMV Detection in HCT Recipients

This is a randomized clinical trial to assess whether a subject centered, self-collection of Dried blood spots (DBS) samples will improve compliance with the clinical recommendation of weekly Cytomegalovirus (CMV) testing of Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) recipients who are at high risk for late CMV disease. In this study, mobile devices will be used to remind HCT survivors to perform CMV monitoring using finger-stick collected DBS testing in their home setting or to visit their doctor's office to perform the test. 150 allogeneic HCT recipients > /= 15 years of age will be randomized (2:1) to DBS monitoring or standard of care (per local institution) monitoring. Duration of study participation is anticipated to be within a range of 26 weeks to 43 weeks. The primary objective is to evaluate adherence to recommended CMV monitoring duration and interval during the first year after HCT upon enrollment using subject collected dried blood spot testing.

Study of Osimertinib With and Without Ramucirumab in Locally Advanced or Metastatic Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)

The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of osimertinib plus ramucirumab versus osimertinib alone using progression free survival (PFS). Events associated with PFS include: disease progression per RECIST 1.1 and death due to any cause. A total of 150 patients will be enrolled and randomized in a 2:1 fashion (osimertinib plus ramucirumab vs. osimertinib) to the two treatment arms according to the following stratification factors: types of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations and presence of brain metastasis.

Arthroscopic Labral Repair Versus Physical Therapy for Tears of the Acetabular Labrum

Tears of the acetabular labrum appear to be common with the prevalence of asymptomatic tears in the general population approaching 66% and 70% based on cadaveric dissection and magnetic resonance imaging, respectively. Despite this prevalence, there is no currently accepted justification for performing labral repair in an asymptomatic patient despite the many postulated biomechanical benefits that an intact labrum imparts to the hip joint. Representing a smaller proportion of all tears, symptomatic tears of the acetabular labrum present a therapeutic challenge. Current treatment modalities range from conservative measures to open surgical intervention. Conservative measures have typically included: activity modification, the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), physical therapy (PT), core strengthening and improvement of sensory motor control. In the past two decades, technological advances in the form of surgical instrumentation and traction devices have facilitated less invasive arthroscopic techniques to diagnose and treat hip problems and as such is now the preferred treatment modality for many orthopedic surgeons treating patients with hip pathology. Determining which patients, using age and arthritic burden as predictors, can benefit from labral repair is paramount for several reasons. Showing arthroscopic repair is of little or no benefit to a specific cohort can reduce the number of unnecessary surgeries performed, increase the use of conservative therapy (if validated) and reduce the interval between diagnosis and total hip replacement.
