The routine histopathological examination provides the detection of incidental gallbladder cancers. It should be remembered that acute or chronic cholecystitis accompanied by the thicked wall and a prolonged history of gallstones may be the cause of malignancy, especially in elderly patients.

Intestinal Permeability, Nutritional Status and Quality of Life in Celiac Disease

Celiac disease is defined as an autoimmune enteropathy with malabsorption of gluten protein. In recent studies, it has been stated that in individuals diagnosed with celiac disease, intestinal epithelial barrier integrity is impaired. Increased zonulin concentration in blood is considered as an indicator of increased intestinal permeability. Gluten-free diet is the only treatment of celiac disease. Adherence to gluten free diet provides decreasing of intestinal permeability however gluten free diet has different aspects on nutritional status and health related quality of life in people with celiac disease. The aim of this study is to determine nutritional status, intestinal permeability and quality of life in people with celiac disease. In the study,it primarily hypothesized that celiac patients noncompliant to gluten-free diet may have increased circulating levels of zonulin and increased intestinal permeability compared to celiac patients compliant to gluten-free diet.

Is Reflexology Applied to Children With Cerebral Palsy an Effective Method?

Objectives: This study was planned to investigate the influence of reflexology applied to children with cerebral palsy together with physical therapy program involving neurodevelopmental approaches. Methods: The study involved 40 children aged,16 girls and 24 boys between 3 and 15 years and divided into two groups. While the children in Group 1 were given twice a week for eight weeks neurodevelopmental treatment, reflexology was applied to those in Group 2 together with neurodevelopmental treatment. Drooling Severity and Frequency Scale, Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire and the Children's Health Questionnaire was used to assess the drooling, status of sleep and quality of life in children.

IL-32 Isoforms Levels in GCF and Plasma of the Patients With Periodontitis

Interleukin (IL)-32, which has been recently reported to be associated with periodontitis, has been suggested to have pleiotropic effect due to its 9 different isoforms. The aim of this study was to investigate the levels of IL-32α, IL-32β, IL-32γ, IL-32δ isoforms in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and plasma before and after nonsurgical periodontal treatment in patients with periodontitis (P).Twenty-seven P and 27 periodontally healthy controls (C) were recruited in this study. Periodontitis patients were performed nonsurgical periodontal treatment. GCF and plasma sampling and clinical periodontal parameters were evaluated before and 1 month after treatment. Enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay was used to analyze the levels of IL-32α, IL-32β, IL-32γ, IL-32δ isoforms in GCF and plasma samples.

Antibiotics, analgesics and mouthwashes are prescribed for the treatment of complications encountered. When using postoperative antibiotics in surgery of impacted third molar teeth, lower surgical area infection, pain, swelling and trismus are seen. Based on this information, in this study, it is aimed to evaluate the effects of rifamycine intraoperatively on the postoperative pain, swelling and trismus.

Effect of QMix 2in1 as Final Irrigation Protocol on Periapical Healing

Aim: To compare the 12-month radiographic outcome of root canal treatment with and without the additional use of QMix 2-in-1 (Dentsply Tulsa, Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) irrigation solution. Methodology: The study included 60 single-rooted teeth with periapical radiolucency of 60 patients, randomized into two groups using randomized block design with block sizes of 10 patients in each. Root canals were prepared with WaveOne Gold files (Dentsply Sirona, Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) and irrigation was performed with 5 mL 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) using side-vented needles during instrumentation. The final irrigation protocol was performed using 5 mL 2.5% NaOCl (n= 30) or 5 ml QMix 2-in-1 (n=30). Then the root canals were irrigated with 5 mL of distilled water and filled with gutta-percha and AH Plus sealer (Dentsply Sirona), using the cold lateral compaction technique. The patients were recalled after 12 months and evaluated radiographically according to perapical index (PAI) scores. Pre and post-treatment PAI scores were compared and teeth were considered 'healthy' (PAI ≤ 2) or 'diseased' (PAI ≥ 3). The Mann Whitney U test was used to compare the differences between the post-operative and follow-up images of the treatment groups. The Wilcoxon signed rank test was applied to examine the changes in PAI score from baseline to the follow-up evaluation in each group.

Relationship of Balance, Functional Capacity and Fear of Movement With Lower Extremity Muscle Strength in Elderly

Aging is a period in which the morphological, physiological and pathological changes progress negatively, accompanied by various diseases and regression of physical and mental abilities. In this period, the individual experiences biological and physiological losses as well as social problems in his/her life. From the age of 65, approximately 80% decrease in muscle strength can be observed and this decrease is especially noticeable in the leg and trunk muscles. Decreases in the strength of the muscles in the lower extremities may cause deterioration in physical function, decrease in mobility, increase in falling related accidents, also can cause osteoporosis and physical deficiencies. Determining the structures with which the lower extremity muscle strength is related will facilitate the precautionary measures for the inadequacies that will arise in the later stages of aging. This study was performed to analyze the relationship of lower extremity muscle strength with balance, functional capacity, fear of movement and quality of life in elderly individuals living in nursing homes.

Determination of Onset Point of Mechanical Stimulation

The difference between latencies of the tonic vibration reflex or T-reflex and whole body vibration-induced muscular reflex may be related to the distance between their stimulation point and the muscle spindles. Achilles tendon is mechanically stimulated by using a local vibrator to elicit the tonic vibration reflex or a reflex hammer to elicit the T-reflex. Whole body vibration, however, stimulates the soleus muscle indirectly over the heel, not directly, since whole body vibration is administered in a position that the subjects are standing on the whole body vibration platform. In other words, while the local vibrator or the hammer stimulates the Achilles tendon, whole body vibration stimulates the sole of the foot. During whole body vibration, mechanical vibration stimuli need to go a long way to reach the soleus muscle spindle. Therefore, whole body vibration-induced muscular reflex latency may be longer than tonic vibration reflex or T-reflex latency. The aim this study is to define a method for determination of onset point of mechanical stimulation inducing muscle spindle-based reflex (e.g., tonic vibration reflex, T-reflex) by using intramuscular electromyography electrodes.
