Comparison of Ischemic Compression Therapy and Kinesiotaping in Chronic Neck Pain

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of ischemic compression (IC) and kinesio taping (KT) treatments on blood flow, tissue stiffness and thickness, pain, and joint range of motion on the upper trapezius muscle of individuals with chronic neck pain. Methods: In this study 22 individuals between the ages of 20-35 were randomly assigned to 3 groups: Group1, which received IC; Group2, received KT; Group3 (control) received exercise, for 2 days and 4 weeks. Pain was measured with VAS, pain threshold with J-Tech Algometer, range of motion with BASELINE Digital Inclinometer, ultrasonographic measurements for blood flow, tissue stiffness and tissue thickness using Acuson S3000. All measurements were performed twice; before and after treatment.

Telerehabilitation in Individuals With Unilateral Transtibial Amputation

It is aimed to investigate the effects of telerehabilitation-based structured exercise on muscle strength, balance, performance, body image, prosthesis adaptation, activity limitation, prosthesis use satisfaction, and quality of life in individuals with unilateral below-knee amputation. Study hypothesis: In individuals with transtibial amputation, telerehabilitation-based structured exercise has an effect on muscle strength, balance, performance, body image, prosthesis adaptation, activity limitation, prosthesis use satisfaction, and quality of life. Forty individuals with a unilateral transtibial amputation will be included in the study. Participants will be divided into two groups as telerehabilitation and control groups with equal sample sizes by the randomization method. All participants will undergo a 6-week exercise program. A structured exercise program supported by telerehabilitation will be applied to the telerehabilitation group 3 days a week, and a home exercise program will be applied on the remaining days of the week. An only a home exercise program will be applied to the control group. Participants will be evaluated at the beginning and end of the study.

Gait Pattern Comparison of Cruciate-retaining and Posterior-stabilized Arthroplasties

In total knee arthroplasty (TKA), the posterior-cruciate ligament-retaining (CR) and posterior-cruciate-ligament stabilized (PS) techniques are widely used depending on the individual preference of the surgeon. Comparative analysis of these two techniques is a major topic of investigation in arthroplasty research. The hypothesis of the present study is that compared with the CR technique, the PS technique is associated with a worse gait pattern. Smart-phone based gait analysis and patient-reported functional outcomes are evaluated in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty with a CR and a PS technique, at 3, 6, and 12 months postoperatively.

The Influence and Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Orthopaedic Resident Training

Orthopedic residents, like all other healthcare professionals, face unique challenges during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The rapid spread of COVID-19 has forced healthcare systems around the world to adapt. As in many other specialties, it has led to many changes in the training of orthopedic residents including restructuring of surgical training, a reduction in elective surgery cases, and re-assignment of residents to COVID-19-related clinical duties. As a result, the standard training curriculum has been interrupted and the number of surgical cases has decreased, limiting the ability of the residents to meet the range and number of patient follow-up and treatment requirements set by the Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Education Council (TOTEK). The already stressful work environment of orthopedic residents has become more stressful and anxious with the COVID-19 pandemic. There are no well-designed survey studies that have shown the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on orthopedic resident education and well-being from the resident's perspective. Therefore, the purpose of this nationwide survey study was to document and analyze the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the real-life experiences of orthopedic residents in Turkey.

The discrimination of the right/left side of the body is related to the integrity of the motor and somatosensory areas at the cortical and subcortical levels. Although some studies have shown that there may be an effect on the right/left representation at the cortical and subcortical levels in cases that cause severe neuropathy and neuropathic pain, this effect has not been proven in milder neuropathies. In this study, the effect on right/left side discrimination will be investigated even in cases with carpal tunnel syndrome. Additionally, the investigators aimed to assess the relationship between right/left discrimination and symptom severity.

Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Exercises in Temporomandibular Dysfunction

Individuals who were diagnosed with reduction disc displacement by Research Diagnostic criteria for Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD / RDC) were included in the study. Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation exercises were performed for 30 minutes using neck jaw and tongue patterns with rhythmic stabilization (RS) and combination of isotonics (CI) techniques by physiotherapist. Maximal mouth openings were measured with caliper, pain intensities were measured with visual analogue scale and pressure pain thresholds with hand algometer.

The Effect of Different Microprocessor Knee Prostheses on Mobility and Gait Parameters in Transfemoral Amputees

Microprocessor knee joints are prosthetic knee joints with an integrated processor or a computer that can analyze data. During walking, parameters such as step speed, joint angles, and weight transferred through sensors are analyzed by the computer inside the joint and determines the movement for the safest and most normal walking. They have different features from each other in terms of weight/height, sensor and processor frequency, load carrying capacity, phase control (hydraulic, pneumatic, magnetic), battery properties, water resistance, and special activity mode. C-Leg, Genium, Genium X3, Rheo Knee 3, Rheo Knee XC, Orion etc. prostheses of different companies are used as oscillating and compression phase microprocessor knee prostheses. Publications on C-leg, Genium and Genium X3 prostheses are limited in international literature. Although there are existing studies comparing C-leg and Genium, there is no study comparing these three prostheses. The investigators think that our study is important because it is the first study in the literature to compare these three prostheses. In this study, the investigators aimed to examine the effects of different microprocessor knee prostheses on mobility and gait parameters in unilateral traumatic transfemoral amputees.

Nurse Navigation Program Based On Health Belief Model In Breast Cancer Screening (NaHeB-CaS)

This study, which is designed according to the experimental model with randomized pre-test and post-test control group, will be carried out with Syrian women who apply to Empowered Migrant Health Center in İstanbul province, Sultanbeyli district, where Syria citizens are immigranted. The population of the study consisted of all Syrian women aged 40-69 under temporary protection who came to the Empowered Migrant Health Center at the time of the research. The working group will be composed of 80 Syrian women who meet the selection criteria. According to the sources, the frequency of breast cancer screening in Turkey is taken as 15%; For the study at 95% confidence level, d=0,6 was taken and n=136 sample size was taken. Considering that there may be those who left during the research period, 14 women will be taken as substitutes and the sample will be completed to a total of 150 in order to increase the power of representing the universe. A personal questionnaire prepared by the researcher in line with the literature, Health Belief Model Scale, Mammography Self-Efficacy Scale, Champion Breast Cancer Fear Scale, Breast Self Examination Checklist Form, will be administered to Syrian women under temporary protection who applied to the empowered migrant health center and agreed to participate in the study.According to the sample pool formed by the women included in the study, the participants were assigned to 2 groups as experiment and control with the "Research Randomizer" program. Each group will be determined as 75 people. A 4-week training program will be applied to the experimental group. The women in the experimental group will be given a self-breast examination control calendar after their first training. Afterwards, motivational interviews will be held once a month for the second and third months. A "Nurse-managed screening consultancy telephone support line" will be established for Syrian women within the scope of the Nurse Navigation Program. Reminder phone calls will be made 4 times a week. Personal questionnaire, Health Belief Model Scale, Mammography Self-Efficacy Scale, Champion Breast Cancer Fear Scale, Breast Self Examination Checklist Form, Post-Training Screening Behavior Follow-up Form will be administered to the experimental and control groups as a post-test.
