An Extension Protocol for Multiple Sclerosis Patients Who Participated in Genzyme-Sponsored Studies of Alemtuzumab

This open-label, rater-blinded extension study will enroll patients who have relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) and who participated in one of three prior Genzyme-sponsored studies of alemtuzumab [CAMMS223 (NCT00050778), CAMMS323 (NCT00530348) also known as CARE-MS I, or CAMMS324 (NCT00548405) also known as CARE-MS II]. The purposes of this study are: 1. To examine the long term safety and efficacy of alemtuzumab treatment in patients who received alemtuzumab as their study treatment in one of the prior studies. 2. To examine the safety and efficacy of initial alemtuzumab treatment in this study for patients who received Rebif® (interferon beta-1a) as their study treatment in one of the prior studies. 3. To determine if and when further alemtuzumab treatment is needed, and the safety and efficacy of this "as needed" treatment. This applies both to patients who received alemtuzumab for the first time in one of the prior studies or for the first time in this extension study.

A Pharmacokinetic Study of Subcutaneous and Intravenous Rituximab in Participants With Follicular Lymphoma

This 2 stage study will compare the pharmacokinetics and safety profile of subcutaneous and intravenous rituximab in participants with follicular lymphoma. In the first stage, participants who have achieved at least a partial response after induction treatment with intravenous rituximab will be randomized to one of 3 treatment cohorts, to receive rituximab 375 milligram per square meter (mg/m^2) intravenously, 375 mg/m^2 subcutaneously or 625 mg/m^2 subcutaneously, and pharmacokinetics evaluated on an ongoing basis. Upon selection of the subcutaneous dose (800 mg/m^2) which results in rituximab trough plasma concentration (C trough) values comparable to those achieved with the intravenous formulation, participants in the second stage of the study will be randomized to receive either the subcutaneous or intravenous formulation to demonstrate comparability of the C trough levels with both routes of administration. Maintenance therapy will continue every 2 or 3 months with the subcutaneous formulation.

This study tests the following hypothesis: Does induced asymptomatic bacteriuria (E. coli 83972) protect against symptomatic urinary tract infections in individuals with bladder emptying dysfunctions and prone to recurrent infection episodes? The study is performed using a double-blind randomized study protocol with a cross-over, with re-inoculations being patient-blinded (phase 1). After patients have fulfilled the cross-over, those who have had bacteriuria or placebo-periods < 12 months will be subjected to additional patient blinded inoculations (phase 2). During the entire study (phase 1+2) the study-team and the patients are unaware of urine culture results.

Safety And Efficacy Evaluation Of Fx-1006A In Subjects With Transthyretin Amyloidosis

This is a Phase 3, open-label study designed to obtain additional long-term safety and efficacy data for oral tafamidis (20 mg soft gelatin capsule) administered once daily (QD). In addition, this study continued to provide tafamidis to Val30Met subjects who had completed Protocol Fx-006 (a 1-year, open-label extension study to Protocol Fx-005 which was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, 18-month study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of tafamidis) or non-Val30Met subjects who had completed Protocol Fx1A-201 (a Phase 2, open-label study to evaluate TTR stabilization, safety, and tolerability of tafamidis) for up to 10 years or until subjects had access to tafamidis for ATTR-PN via prescription. Upon regulatory approval for the treatment of ATTR-PN in their respective country and access to prescription tafamidis, subjects may have been withdrawn from the study. Such subjects were considered study completers.

Study of Continuous Cardiac Monitoring to Assess Atrial Fibrillation After Cryptogenic Stroke

The 2006 American Heart Association / American Stroke Association Council on Stroke Guidelines for Prevention of Stroke in Patients With Ischemic Stroke or Transient Ischemic recommended that patients with cryptogenic stroke take antithrombotic drugs (i.e. aspirin) in order to prevent a second stroke. When a stroke patient is found to have atrial fibrillation (AF), the guidelines recommend oral anticoagulation due to its superior efficacy over aspirin for stroke prevention. Physicians can best optimize the use of medicines only if they can precisely and correctly diagnose a patient's AF. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the time to first AF by 6 months' continuous rhythm monitoring versus control treatment in subjects with a recent cryptogenic stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) without history of AF.

Given the high frequency of such disturbances and the relative paucity of randomized treatment studies, substantial systematic investigation is needed. This project is a randomized controlled study comparing mother-infant psychoanalytic treatment with treatment as usual in cases where mothers and/or health visitors demanded expert help.

A randomized controlled trial over a 10-week period with a two-year follow-up. The objectives were to compare effects of manual therapy in addition to the stay-active concept versus the stay-active concept only in low back pain patients recruited from primary health care. 160 outpatients with acute or subacute low back pain with or without pain radiation into the legs (70 women, 90 men, ages 20-55 years) were recruited from a geographically defined area and randomly allocated to stay-active care with or without muscle stretching, or to manual therapy with or without specific corticosteroid injections in addition to the stay-active concept. Pain, disability rating index, and sickness absence measures were used as outcome at 10-week follow-up and sickness absence was measured at two-year follow-up.
