Study Evaluating 13-valent Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (13vPnC) in Children With Sickle Cell Disease

This study is to evaluate the safety, tolerability and immunogenicity of 13-valent pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine in children with Sickle Cell Disease who have already been vaccinated with 23-valent polysaccharide vaccine. The study will measure the amount of antibodies (the proteins that fight off germs) produced by children with Sickle Cell Disease after they have been given the 13-valent pneumococcal vaccine between 6 and less than 18 years of age. They will be given the vaccination twice, each vaccination separated by approximately 6 months.

The objective of Series III Run-In Trial is to compare the performance and efficacy of the Supralimus® sirolimus-eluting stent with the Xience V™ everolimus-eluting stent with respect to in-stent luminal late loss at 9 months as assessed by off-line QCA. Ninety percent power to reject the null hypothesis that the Supralimus® stent is inferior to Xience V™ in favor of the alternative hypothesis that the Supralimus® stent is not inferior to Xience V™.

Physicians should consult the full prescribing information for the respective OC before enrolling patients and familiarize themselves with the safety information in the product package label.

This study was an extension to study MA21573 [NCT00750880], which was an open label single arm study to investigate the safety, tolerability and efficacy of tocilizumab monotherapy, or combination therapy with non-biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDS), in patients with moderate to severe active rheumatoid arthritis. Patients who completed the 24 week core study, and had at least a moderate European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) response, were eligible to enter this long-term extension study, and received tocilizumab 8 mg/kg intravenous (iv) every 4 weeks. The anticipated time on study treatment was 1-2 years, and the target sample size was > 500 individuals.

Peginterferon Alfa-2a Plus Ribavirin Combination Treatment in Chronic Hepatitis C Post-Renal Transplant Patients

There is a distinct lack of published literature on the effect of combination treatment of PEG-interferon and ribavirin on post-renal transplantation hepatitis C virus (HCV) patients. Small case series have been published utilizing conventional interferon and/or ribavirin and the available data is extremely preliminary in nature. A small retrospective series of patients treated with Pegylated interferon and ribavirin published recently suggests that the treatment may be safe and efficacious. Unpublished reports from a few centers within Saudi Arabia also suggest a good safety profile and reasonable efficacy from this form of combination treatment. The investigators aim to prospectively study the safety and efficacy of PEG-interferon and ribavirin combination therapy in post-renal transplant HCV-infected patients. Towards this 40 patients with histological evidence of liver disease will be recruited and the efficacy of the above medications studied. The proposed study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of PEG-interferon and ribavirin combination therapy in the treatment of chronic HCV in renal transplant patients in a way that will allow management of such patients in an optimized manner.

Previous studies on the PRESTIGE® cervical disc have proven the safety and effectiveness of artificial disc surgery with level I evidence. The PRESTIGE Observational Study is intended to collect prospectively observational data primarily on the Quality of Life (QoL).
