Study of Single Agent Belantamab Mafodotin Versus Pomalidomide Plus Low-dose Dexamethasone (Pom/Dex) in Participants With Relapsed/Refractory Multiple Myeloma (RRMM)

This open-label, randomized study for evaluating the efficacy and safety of single agent belantamab mafodotin when compared to pom/dex in participants with RRMM. Participants will be randomized in a 2:1 ratio to receive either single agent belantamab mafodotin or pom/dex. Belantamab mafodotin will be administered on Day 1 (D1) at every 3 weeks (Q3W) schedule. Pomalidomide will be administered daily on Days 1 to 21 of each 28-day cycle, with dexamethasone administered once weekly (Days 1, 8, 15, and 22). Participants in both arms will be treated until disease progression, death, unacceptable toxicity, withdrawal of consent, and lost to follow-up or end of study, whichever comes first.

Theoretically, downstaging with neo adjuvant chemotherapy could shrink the tumour, making surgical treatment less extensive thereby diminishing the chance for morbidity.

Purpose of this prospective, randomized, controlled, multi-center study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) as compared to surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in female patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis. Patients will be randomized 1:1 to receive either TAVI or SAVR aortic valve replacement. For TAVI procedure, Edwards SAPIEN 3 THV system Model 9600 TFX (20, 23, 26 and 29 mm) or SAPIEN 3 Ultra THV system Model 9750 TFX (20, 23, 26) with the associated transfemoral delivery systems will be sued, for SAVR any commercially available surgical bioprosthetic valve. Patients will undergo the following visits: Screening, Procedure, Post Procedure, Discharge, 30 day, 6 months (telephone contact) and 1 year.

People with central lobe epilepsy (CLE), with seizures arising from the primary sensorimotor cortex, typically show a high rate of convulsive seizures that do not respond to anti-epileptic drugs, but have a large impact on quality of life. They often seek surgical relief, but since the area contains the body's indispensable sensorimotor representation, CLE surgery will lead to permanent functional deficits. Cortical stimulation case studies in CLE have shown seizure frequency reduction of more than 90%, but in our experience, stimuli in the central lobe can hardly be applied without interfering with motor function. The investigators propose cortical electrical stimulation therapy of a conceptually novel type. The investigators systematically determine individual stimulation settings, stimulation site and a seizure detection algorithm. In REC2Stim (Rational Extra-eloquent Closed-loop Cortical Stimulation), at the start of a seizure, a train of electric pulses is delivered to a nearby extra-eloquent area connected with the epileptogenic area within the sensorimotor cortex. Success will constitute a therapeutic modality for pharmaco-resistant patients with an epileptic focus in eloquent areas.

A Study to Test the Effect of Empagliflozin in Patients Who Are in Hospital for Acute Heart Failure

This is a study in adults who are in hospital for acute heart failure. The purpose of this study is to find out whether starting to take a medicine called empagliflozin soon after first being treated in hospital helps people with acute heart failure. Participants are in the study for about 3 months. At the beginning, participants are still in hospital. Later, they visit the hospital about 3 times and get 1 phone call. Participants are put into 2 groups by chance. One group takes 1 empagliflozin tablet a day. The other group takes 1 placebo tablet a day. Placebo tablets look like empagliflozin tablets but do not contain any medicine. Empagliflozin belongs to a class of medicines known as SGLT-2 inhibitors. It is used to treat type 2 diabetes. During the study, the doctors check whether participants have additional heart failure events like needing to go to the hospital again because of heart failure. The participants answer questions about how their heart failure affects their life. We then compare the results between the empagliflozin and placebo groups. The doctors also regularly check the general health of the participants.
