ROGYcare: The Impact of a Cancer Survivorship Care Plan on Patient Reported Outcomes and Health Care Providers

ROGYcare
Start date: April 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Earlier diagnoses and improved treatments have contributed to the growing cohort of cancer survivors. Nevertheless, these patients remain at risk for adverse long-term or late physical or psychosocial effects of cancer and its treatment. There is increasing recognition to improve information disclosure and cancer survivorship care. The American Institute of Medicine (IOM) and Health Council of the Netherlands both recommend that cancer survivors receive a summary of their course of treatment as a formal document, that also includes recommendations for subsequent cancer surveillance, management of late effects, and strategies for health promotion, the Survivorship Care Plan (SCP). However, no evidence exists concerning the positive and negative effects of the implementation of the SCP in daily clinical practice. The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of SCP care in routine clinical practice on cancer survivors' satisfaction with information disclosure and care, quality of life, illness perception, and health care use.

NCT ID: NCT01184989 Completed - Clinical trials for Arthroplasty, Replacement

Treatment of Patients Undergoing Primary Unilateral Elective Total Knee or Hip Replacement With Dabigatran Etexilate

Start date: August 2010
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

To supplement the current evidence of the effect of Pradaxa® (dabigatran etexilate) on coagulation parameters, including a calibrated thrombin time test, in patients with moderate renal impairment undergoing elective total hip- or knee-replacement surgery, this PK/PD study will be conducted.

NCT ID: NCT01184404 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Congenital Heart Disease

Bosentan Improves Clinical Outcome of Adults With Congenital Heart Disease or Mitral Valve Lesions Who Undergo CArdiac Surgery

BOCA
Start date: September 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Cardiac surgery relieves symptoms and increases life expectancy in cardiac patients, with and without congenital heart disease (CHD). However, cardiac surgery involves many risks of complications, such as bleeding, arrhythmias, and death.Right ventricular failure is another complication, contributing to poor clinical outcome. Right ventricular failure is a clinical syndrome, often difficult to treat, characterized by edema, elevated jugular venous pressure, oliguria, hypotension, and in severe cases shock, multi organ failure and death. Patients with CHD and patients with mitral valve lesions are suspected to be at increased risk for developing right ventricular failure post-operatively. In addition, other clinical factors contributing to right ventricular failure are mechanical pulmonary ventilation, pulmonary hypertension and cardiac surgery. Right ventricular failure during cardiac surgery is caused by the cardiopulmonary bypass by reperfusion with high partial pressures of oxygen, air embolism, and the release of cytokines. The endothelin-1 cytokine induces vasoconstriction of the pulmonary arterioles resulting in right ventricular afterload elevation. Treating patients with an endothelin-1 receptor antagonist might improve clinical outcome post operatively by decreasing right ventricular afterload

NCT ID: NCT01183858 Completed - Clinical trials for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

A Study of Tarceva (Erlotinib) to Compare Two Different Doses in in Currently Smoking Patients With Advanced or Metastatic Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (CURRENTS)

Start date: October 2010
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This prospective, double-blind, randomized study will evaluate the safety and efficacy of two dose levels of erlotinib [Tarceva] on progression-free survival, response and disease control rates and overall survival in patients with advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) after failure of first-line platinum-based chemotherapy. Patients must be current smokers and not intending to stop smoking during the study. Patients will be randomized to receive either 150 mg or 300 mg of study drug as single daily oral doses. Treatment will continue until disease progression.

NCT ID: NCT01183780 Completed - Colorectal Cancer Clinical Trials

A Study in Second Line Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

Start date: December 2, 2010
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to compare overall survival in participants with metastatic colorectal cancer treated with either ramucirumab and FOLFIRI or placebo and FOLFIRI.

NCT ID: NCT01182493 Completed - Clinical trials for Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2

OpT2mise Glucose Control in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) With Insulin Pump Therapy

OpT2mise
Start date: December 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the comparative effectiveness of insulin pump therapy versus multiple daily injections in insulin-taking type 2 Diabetes Mellitus who are sub optimally controlled with multiple daily injections (MDI).
