Assessment of Physical Functioning and Handling of Spiolto Respimat in Patients With COPD (OTIVACTO)

The primary objective of this Non Interventional Study is to measure changes in physical functioning, a surrogate for physical activity and exercise capacity, in COPD patients on treatment with Spiolto® Respimat® in routine daily treatment after approximately 6 weeks. A secondary objective is to evaluate the patient's general condition (physician's evaluation) from Visit 1 (baseline visit at the start of the study) to Visit 2 (final visit at the end of the study, approx. 6 weeks after Visit 1), as well as patient satisfaction with Spiolto® Respimat® at Visit 2.

EuroSIDA - Clinical and Virological Outcome of European Patients Infected With HIV

The EuroSIDA study is a prospective observational cohort study of 23,000+ patients followed in 100+ clinics in 35 European countries, Israel and Argentina. The study is the largest pan-European cohort study and few studies of a comparable design are available on a global scale. The EuroSIDA study is an ongoing collaboration and patients have been enrolled into the study through 11 cohorts since 1994. The main objective of the study remains the same as in 1994: to prospectively study, clinical, therapeutic, demographic, virological and laboratory data from HIV-1 positive persons across Europe in order to determine their long-term virological, immunological and clinical outcomes. Historically, EuroSIDA has been crucial in reporting key changes in the HIV epidemic, such as the dramatic changes in morbidity and mortality when combination anti-retroviral therapy (cART) was first introduced. As new anti-HCV treatment is introduced to HIV/HCV co-infected patients, it is important for EuroSIDA to remain in the forefront of investigating the treatment benefits and adverse effects. All study documents, study status, newsletters, scientific publications and presentations are available online and are updated continuously at project website. In general terms, the objective of the EuroSIDA study is to continue a long-term, prospective collection of clinical, laboratory and therapeutic data as well as plasma on a large cohort of consecutive HIV infected patients from across Europe in order to (1) assess the factors associated with the clinical, immunological and virological course of HIV infection and HIV-related co-infections and co-morbidities, and (2) continue to provide and develop a surveillance system to describe temporal changes and regional differences in the clinical course of HIV and HIV-related co-infections and co-morbidities in Europe.

LUME BioNIS: a Biomarker Study in Patients With NSCLC

At present there are no approved predictive tumour- or serum-derived biomarkers guiding usage of anti-angiogenic therapies in patients with adenocarcinoma of NSCLC.The objective of this NIS is to examine whether genetic/genomic markers (alone or combined with clinical covariates) could be used to predict OS in NSCLC patients eligible for treatment with Vargatef®. The investigations in this study are exploratory in nature and considered to be hypothesis generating. The results from these investigations may help to expand our understanding of the disease and the response to Vargatef®.

Automated Pupillometry for Coma Prognostication After Cardiac Arrest

Background: Sedation and therapeutic hypothermia (TH) delay neurological responses and might reduce the accuracy of clinical examination to predict outcome after cardiac arrest (CA). Electroencephalography (EEG) and somato-sensory evoked potentials (SSEP) might significantly improve prognostication of post-CA coma, however, EEG and SSEP are not always available and require specific expertise for their interpretation. Automated video pupillometry is a novel electronic device that contains an infrared light camera which enables to measure quantitatively the percentage of pupillary reaction to a calibrated light stimulation. In a recent study of a cohort of comatose CA survivors (n=50 patients) it was found that quantitative PLR was more accurate than standard PLR (manual pen light) in predicting 3-month outcome, irrespective of temperature and sedation, and had comparable prognostic accuracy than electrophysiological exams, including electroencephalography (EEG) and somato-sensory evoked potentials (SSEP). Aim of the study: In light of these promising results, the investigators would like to confirm the prognostic value of quantitative PLR in a large multicenter cohort of comatose post-CA patients. Design of the study: Prospective, multicenter, observational outcome trial.

54 patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease and freezing of gait resistant to subthalamic nucleus stimulation and dopaminergic medication will be included into this multicentre randomised controlled double-blinded parallel group clinical trial. The treatment consists of two different stimulation settings using (i) conventional stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus [standard STN] as active comparator and (ii) combined stimulation of active electrode contacts located in both the subthalamic nucleus and substantia nigra pars reticulata [STN+SNr].

The frequency of Barrett's esophagus (BE) has increased in adults in the last decades, but BE is rare in children. Esophageal atresia (EA), the most common congenital anomaly affecting the esophagus, predisposes the patient to severe and prolonged gastroesophageal reflux disease. Because gastroesophageal reflux disease plays a major role in the development of BE by causing repeated mucosal damage, development of BE is a concern even in children and young adults in this specific population. The aim of this study is to assess the prevalence of BE (gastric and/or intestinal metaplasia) in a population of adolescents/young adults who had been treated for EA in early infancy. All eligible patients received upper gastrointestinal endoscopy under general anesthesia with standardized esophageal staged biopsies. Histological suspicion of metaplasia was confirmed centrally.
