The main scope of the present pilot study is to evaluate the possible association between the status of sarcopenia and the risk of fall in osteoporotic postmenopausal women. Forty osteoporotic postmenopausal women, previously (pre-recruitment) classified by DXA in 20 sarcopenic and 20 non-sarcopenic subjects, will be recruited. The investigators will collect data on: 1) bone (vitamin D) and muscle (myokines) metabolisms through blood sampling; 2) Risk of fall by the OAK device produced by Khymeia; 3) thigh muscle quality through MR.
By 2030, the global prevalence of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is predicted to reach 65.7 million worldwide. Despite extensive research efforts, a cure for AD has not been identified. The intervention was preceded by a 1-week run-in period during which participants underwent continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and filled in a 7-day dietary record to optimize basal infusion rate and insulin-to-glycemic load ratio. The study had a randomized crossover design with each subject studied on 2 occasions at least 1 week apart. Participants were assigned to consume, in random order, two test meals with the same amount of carbohydrates (50g): a meal containing fiber-enriched buckwheat pasta (FBP) or corn pasta (CP), used as control. In colorectal surgery about 30% of postoperative mortality is attributed to anastomotic leak, whit an incidence range between 1.8% and 15.9%. Preventing the anastomotic leak can therefore bring benefits to the patient and the health system. To date we have technologically advanced suturizers and the correct realization (well-vascularized margins, not in tension, etc.) remains crucial to prevent anastomotic dehiscence. Experimental results demonstrate that modified cyanacrylate is a suitable potential "reinforcement" on intestinal anastomoses (manual or linear intra-corporeal). Applied after mechanical anastomosis, it polymerizes in a short time, closing the spaces of the suture line between one point and the other, expressing an adhesive, hemostatic and sealing action on the tissues, also creating an effective antiseptic barrier towards of the most common infectious or pathogenic agents.
Trauma is the leading cause of death in young people. Trauma-induced coagulopathy (TIC) encompasses several aspects of traumatic bleeding. Monitoring of coagulopathy comprises use of Point-of-Care (POC) methods, such as thromboelastography (TEG) or Thromboelastometry (ROTEM) and conventional laboratory assays (platelet count, fibrinogen level, and PT or INR). POC tests are thought to have a better performance on mortality and bleeding control than conventional tests. The aim of this study is to compare POC and conventional assays with plasma consumption as a primary outcome and 28 days mortality as a secondary one.
