The primary objective of this randomized trial was to investigate whether early initiation of treatment with Risperdal Consta after an acute episode was not inferior to the routine approach (oral treatment for 12 weeks followed by treatment with Risperdal Consta). .
The purpose of this study is to investigate whether a long-acting injectable formulation of risperidone provides better effectiveness over 2 years, as measured by the time to relapse, compared with quetiapine tablets in a routine psychiatric care setting. Aripiprazole will be investigated in a descriptive manner.
N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) agonist, added to classical or atypical antipsychotic medication, has reduced negative, depressive, and cognitive symptomatology. We will be investigating the effect of D-serine, (DSR), a selective and potent NMDAR agonist, as monotherapy for treatment resistant schizophrenics. 40 subjects on stable doses of risperidone will be randomized under double-blind conditions into a treatment group, which will receive D-serine 2100 mg, or a control group, which will continue to receive risperidone. Treatment will continue for 14 weeks. Symptoms and side effects will be rated biweekly with the CGI, PANSS, BPRS, SAS, AIMS, and UKU. Before and after the trial subjects will undergo neuropsychological assessments. Baseline and post-trial levels of amino acids relevant to glutamatergic neurotransmission (glutamate, glutamine, aspartate, glycine, serine, alanine) will be assessed. The primary outcome measures of the study will be the PANSS total scores and the positive and negative symptom cluster scores.
The proposed experiment will evaluate the effects of the NMDA receptor full agonist D-serine (~2g/day) on persistent symptoms of Parkinson's Disease and on antiparkinsonian drugs-induced dyskinesias. D-serine will be used as add-on therapy to on-going medications received by Parkinson's Disease patients. The rational for this study stems from observations made in pervious clinical trials with schizophrenia patients, in which it was demonstrated that D-serine adjuvant treatment resulted in:1)improvement of parkinsonian side effects induced by antipsychotic drugs and 2) improvement of depression and negative (i.e apathy, blunted effects, anhedonia) symptoms which are similar to symptoms encountered in Parkinson's Disease. The study will have a crossover design in accordance to which each patient will receive, in random order D-serine and placebo for a 6 weeks period each. Thus, any participant will have the opportunity to receive the experimental treatment.
The aim of this study is to asses the effects of the NMDA receptor full agonist D-serine while used as adjuvant treatment for individuals suffering from chronic posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Dysfunction of neurotransmission mediated at NMDA receptor plays a cardinal role in the pathophysiology of PTSD and PTSD patients typically suffer from cognitive dysfunctions and avoidance& depressive symptomatology that may be mediated by NMDA receptor function deficits. Thus, enhancement of NMDA activity by using D-serine may be beneficial in the treatment of PTSD. The study design involves two 6 week periods during which the participants will be randomly assigned to receive treatment with D-serine (~2g /dy)and placebo. This design allows each participant the opportunity to respond to the experimental treatment.
The primary purpose of this study is to determine whether treatment with an experimental gene therapy (BIOBYPASS®) will reduce angina in study participants by stimulating the growth of new blood vessels. This will be measured by testing whether participants are able to exercise longer without experiencing angina after treatment, as compared to before treatment. Additionally, this study will collect information about any side effects that might be related to the treatment with the experimental therapy.
This is a 52-week randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, multi-center, active-controlled (metformin) study of tesaglitazar in patients with type 2 diabetes, not adequately controlled on diet and lifestyle advice alone during the run-in period. The study comprises a 6 week placebo single blind run in period followed by a 52-week a double blind treatment period and a 3-week follow-up period. Tesaglitazar and metformin will be titrated to optimal effect or highest tolerable dose during the first 12 weeks.
