SEPIA-ACS1
Start date: June 2006
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Primary objective: To demonstrate the clinical efficacy of otamixaban (dose effect via 5 intravenous [IV] regimens) in patients with moderate-to-high-risk non-ST elevation acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and planned early invasive strategy. Secondary objectives: To evaluate safety and assess pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD).

NCT ID: NCT00317213 Completed - Smoking Clinical Trials

Smoking Cessation Assistance With LIBERTAL, A Phospholipid Mixture

Start date: February 2002
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

It has been shown in rodent models that chronic substance abuse is associated with a rigidification of cell membrane fluidity due to a change in the membrane cholesterol/phospholipids ratio. Upon substance withdrawal the membrane undergoes reequilibration of this ratio, a process resulting both in an acute and a prolonged severe withdrawal syndrome. MBM has developed a patented, phosphatidic acid-enriched phospholipid platform ("LIBERTAL"), which is supposed to facilitate the membrane fluidity recovery. The company has focused on nicotine withdrawal in smoking cessation,as primary target.

NCT ID: NCT00316966 Completed - Aging Clinical Trials

A Clinical Trial to Determine Outcomes and Cost Effectiveness of Nutritional Intervention in Elderly Patients

Start date: June 2003
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

With the introduction of the National Insurance Law in Israel in 1995, there have been increased efforts to reduce hospitalization in general and length of stay in the hospital in particular. Under nourished patients have been shown to have a longer mean length of stay and they are more likely to suffer from complications, which significantly increase cost of care. Intense nutritional intervention programs, aimed at decreasing rehospitalizations and post hospitalization complications, are not clearly currently included in the basket of services provided under the law. Nutritional intervention has been shown to be clinically efficacious and cost-effective. Demonstration of the benefits of such intervention, both in terms of reduced expenditures and quality of care, may open a path for specific nutritional intervention programs that are needed for older persons during and after discharge from Acute Care. Given the effort made to reduce the length of hospitalization time, even in frail elderly patients, it is clear that full scale nutritional intervention cannot be completed during their hospitalization. Therefore, there is a need to create continuity between in-patient and follow-up nutritional intervention. This combined policy has the potential to improve general health, reduce the rates of under nutrition and its associated complications, and thus reduce future hospitalization, along with the mortality and morbidity associated. It is plausible that improved general health and less frequent hospitalization will eventuate in cost reduction and allow the intervention to be cost effective. Furthermore, the descriptive information regarding the nutritional status of older patients admitted to an Acute Care department may be important for policy makers in their development of nutritional intervention programs to support the elderly before, during and after hospitalization. Study Hypothesis: We hypothesize that multidisciplinary nutritional intervention, during and following hospitalization, will improve dietary intake and nutritional status. Improvement in nutritional status will, in turn, cut health care costs by decreasing the use of health services. In-hospital nutritional care will be beneficial, but combined in-hospital and community care will be more clinically efficacious and more cost effective in the long run.

NCT ID: NCT00315003 Terminated - Clinical trials for Otitis Media, Suppurative

TELI COM - Telithromycin in Children With Otitis Media

Start date: January 2006
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This is a multinational, randomized (1:1), double-blind, double-dummy, comparative, 2- treatmentgroup study in children (age range: ≥6 months and <72 months [< 6 years of age]) with AOM.Subjects will be randomized to receive either telithromycin (50 mg/mL) oral suspension 25 mg/kgonce daily for 5 days or azithromycin (40 mg/mL) oral suspension (10 mg/kg once on Day 1, followed by 5 mg/kg once daily on Days 2-5, not to exceed 500 mg onDay 1 and 250 mg/day from Days 2 - 5. Matching placebo suspensions for telithromycin and azithromycin will also be dispensed to provide blinding for the different treatment regimens.Assessments and reporting of safety will be carried out at all visits.

NCT ID: NCT00314938 Terminated - Clinical trials for Growth Hormone Deficiency

A Single Dose Study to Evaluate the PK-PD Response and Safety of PHA-794428 in Children With Growth Hormone Deficiency

Start date: April 2006
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This will be the first clinical study of the development of PHA-794428 in a pediatric population. Since differences in PK and/or PD response may occur between adult and pediatric subjects, it is deemed appropriate to first conduct an exploratory single dose study in pediatric patients to assess safety and tolerability in this patient population. In addition this will add pediatric data to facilitate the prediction of the optimal therapeutic dose to be tested in repeated dose phase 2b trials in children, using PK/PD modeling

NCT ID: NCT00314379 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Endothelial Function in a Sample Group of Patients From the ICARE Study

Start date: April 2006
Phase: Phase 2/Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The ICARE study, clinicaltrials.gov ID number: NCT00220831 and protocol number KL-2004, is recruiting diabetic patients with haptoglobin phenotype 2-2, which are randomised to either Vitamin E 400IU per day or placebo. Patients will be followed for 4 years for the major cardiovascular complications of diabetes, acute myocardial infarction (MI), stroke and cardiovascular mortality (see ICARE protocol). The EFI study, Endothelial Function in ICARE will recruit a sample group of 50 patients from the ICARE cohort. These patients will complete all requirements by ICARE protocol and in addition will be tested for endothelial function by a non-invasive method of flow mediated dilatation (FMD).

NCT ID: NCT00313924 Recruiting - Overactive Bladder Clinical Trials

Assessing the OAB-8 Questionnaire as a Tool to Measure Treatment Outcome

Start date: February 2006
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

OAB is a widespread medical problem affecting 6- 30% of the population (both sexes and all age groups) in Europe1 and 16%2-18%3 of the US and Canadian population. Nevertheless only a small proportion of this group turns to seek medical help. Once treated, evaluation of treatment outcome is problematic since outcome measures for success vary widely (i.e. improvement in number of incontinence episodes, number of urge episodes, change in frequency and nocturia etc) but do not include measures of patient reported outcomes. The OAB Assessment Tool is a self-administered questionnaire (8-question self–filled survey) primarily intended to identify patients with symptoms of OAB. The same comparable information could be obtained after a certain treatment period, thus providing accurate and precise measures of success. It could also offer insight to the changes of the different parameters that make up the problem. Due to its ease of administration and its high specificity in assessing OAB, the OAB Assessment Tool seems to be optimal for this objective.

NCT ID: NCT00313898 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Erectile Dysfunction

Effect of Sildenafil on Quality of Sexual Life in Mild to Normally Sexually Functioning Males

Start date: September 2005
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

In clinical practice it is quite common to have sexually active male patients with mild/normal erectile function that are not satisfied with their sexual function. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of sildenafil on the quality of sexual function in this group of patients. The endpoint of this study is to define another, different group of patients that may respond positively to treatment with sildenafil.
