Women undergoing IVF show a high prevalence of depressive and anxiety symptoms. Furthermore, stress has harmful consequences on IVF and pregnancy outcomes. An immunological cascade was suggested to be involved in the process. Treatment in this setting is usually psychotherapy rather than pharmacotherapy, despite reasonable biological evidence suggesting beneficial influence of antidepressant therapy on pregnancy and well-being. Moreover, pharmacotherapy is more available and affordable than psychotherapy in the public health system. The investigators suggest to study the efficacy of antidepressant treatment in women undergoing IVF treatment, presenting with mild mood symptoms. The investigators hypothesize that treatment will result in a greater attenuation of affective symptoms, as well as in higher pregnancy success rates. Furthermore, certain immunological stress-reactive factors, may prove to be the biological mechanism underlying these effects.
It has been shown in laboratory studies that pomegranate juice contains anti-viral action against influenza. The researchers wish to investigate the effect of pomegranate juice on patients suffering from influenza A (seasonal or swine flu).
The purpose of the trial is to compare nipple stimulation with a breast pump to pitocin for induction of labor in term pregnancies.
The study will include 20 subjects who will be randomly divided to two groups: a ten person group being the study group and a ten person group acting as a control group (each group will include a similar number of females and males as the other group). In addition, the physiotherapy treatments at the rehabilitation center, the study group will gain an intervention consisting of 12 therapy sessions, administered for 12 consecutive days (apart of weekends). The intervention will include 6 minutes of watching a movie clip alternately showing a healthy man and a healthy woman at their sixties, walking while being filmed from various angles. Immediately after watching, the subject will perform 6 minutes of walking, under the experimenters supervision, but without his or hers intervention. Immediately following the walking, the whole procedure will be repeated (watching a clip and walking). The control group will undergo 12 treatments of the same nature, but will watch the movie clip shown backwards, so that the people filmed will seem to walk backwards (it was established that watching a reversed action does not activate the MNS system activated by a regular execution of the activity [Celnik et al., 2008]), followed by 6 minutes of walking under the experimenters supervision, then watching the movie again and walking again. The person performing the examinations will be blinded as to the division of the subjects to the study group and the control group. After performing the previously noted examinations needed to participate in the research, the subjects found fit will be examined before the beginning of the intervention, at its end and then three months after its conclusion. The examinations will include smart step and walking parameters.
Prospective, randomized-controlled trial (RCT) comparing the use of Propofol and traditional sedation (Midazolam and Fentanyl) for diagnostic and screening endoscopies in patients with liver diseases. The investigators' working hypothesis is that the use of propofol will be translated in a shorter recovery and discharge times with a higher patient satisfaction and a decrease in general complications in the context of patients with advanced liver disease.
Purpose: - Improvement of extent of resection by the use of intraoperatively acquired image data sets to navigate. - Better define the role of different intra-operative imaging modalities, used to update the navigational data set, in aiding the surgeon during resection of intra-axial brain lesions. - To examine the cost-effectiveness of different intraoperative navigational systems as a function of operative time and Operative time (Surgery including imaging) There is increasing neuro-oncological evidence that extent of resection might have an impact in particular in low-grade lesions.
Falls are a major complication in patients treated in rehabilitation departments, yet studies evaluating different interventions to reduce falls-risk are rare and inconclusive. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the efficacy of a multidisciplinary fall-prevention program to reduce falls and injury in stroke patients treated in a rehabilitation department. All stroke patients consecutively admitted to the department of rehabilitation at Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center for a period of one year will be eligible for inclusion. Upon receiving an informed consent subjects will be randomized to the intervention group or the control (convention care) group. There are no exclusion criteria. The Intervention includes group education on risk of falling and safe mobility and transfers; physical therapy of balance training at the patients' bedside twice weekly and medical assessment of medication use (anxiolytics/hypnotics, neuroleptics, antihypertensives and other vasodilators), orthostatic hypotension, urinary frequency/incontinence, delirium and visual problems. Intervention therapy will not be given as an extra time, rather at the same treatment time as the control group. Primary outcomes are rate of falls and related injuries.
Migraine is prevalent in 10-12% of the population. It involves the development of a cranial perivascular neurogenic inflammation. Recent information suggests that migraine might be a risk factor to stroke. The possible mechanisms that might relate migraine and stroke are: 1. Migraineous infarction 2. A primary endothelial disorder. 3. Genetic relation 4. An ongoing inflammatory process. C reactive protein (CRP) is a sensitive marker for an inflammatory process.The data on the relation of migraine to inflammation is limited. The aim of the current study is to assess inflammatory factors as possible markers for migraine.
The aim of this study is to investigate the glycemic effect of supplementation Fibers in orange juice. This will be a double-blind parallel controlled study. Each subject will serve as his own control. Study population will include 10 subjects. The subjects will be randomly assigned to receive one of two juices in occasion, in two visits. Each drink will be containing orange juice with\without fibers.
The study hypothesis is that 2 Months Daily Supplementation of Orange juice with fibers will effect the weight and the plasma lipids. This will be a double-blind parallel controlled study. Study population will include 50 subjects, who will be divided randomly into two groups. The first group will get the Orange juice with fibers, and the second group will get Orange juice with out the fibers.
