NCT ID: NCT00845728 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Exacerbation Study

INVIGORATE
Start date: March 2009
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This study compares indacaterol with tiotropium in terms of bronchodilation over 52 weeks

NCT ID: NCT00845312 Completed - Pneumonia Clinical Trials

Prognostic Features for Mortality in Young Adults With Pneumonia

Start date: March 2009
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Pneumonia is a major cause of mortality and morbidity. A large body of evidence concerning the mortality risk factors in elderly patients with pneumonia has been reported; however, less is known about causes of mortality in patients of sixty and less. We noted a relatively substantial rate of short term mortality in this group of patients that were admitted to our institution. Therefore, we aimed to estimate the mortality rate and to identify risk factors for mortality among patients of sixty years old and less that were admitted with community acquired pneumonia.

NCT ID: NCT00844662 Terminated - Clinical trials for Chronic Kidney Failure

Phase III Study to Investigate the Safety and Efficacy of Fermagate and Sevelamer Hydrochloride

Start date: July 2009
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Magnesium iron hydroxycarbonate is a phosphate binder that absorbs phosphate from food, reducing the amount that the body can absorb. The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of magnesium iron hydroxycarbonate in subjects requiring haemodialysis, compared with a marketed phosphate binder, sevelamer hydrochloride.

NCT ID: NCT00843648 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Antibody Immune Profile

Study of the Development of Human Immune System of Newborns by Antigen Chips

Start date: March 2009
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

The immune system is a dynamic, constantly evolving network. Excluding autoimmune diseases, healthy individuals are also known to have a large number of circulating antibodies that can recognize proteins of their own tissues. These antibodies are known as natural antibodies and previous studies suggested that some features of these "self" components are shared by individuals in certain physiological states. Thus, monitoring self immunoglobulins can provide an overview of the various states of the immune system. To do so, and in the process to obtain systems biology view of the immune system, the newly developed Antigen Chip technology has been used. To further investigate this subject we plan to carry out broader investigations that will be conducted in collaboration with the group of Prof. Eshel Ben-Jacob from the university of Tel-Aviv and Prof. Irun Cohen from the Weizmann Institute that have the required experimental and analytical expertise and facilities. The studies will include follow-up on the immune state of babies and their mothers for several months post birth using the Antigen Chip and analyzed by the Immune holography method. The investigations will also include comparative studies between the immune signature of different body fluids, the effects of feeding, and the effect method and time of labor.

NCT ID: NCT00843609 Completed - Clinical trials for Diabetes Mellitus, Type 1

International Navigator Hypoglycaemia Study

Start date: October 2008
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine if the incidence and duration of hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) is reduced through the use of the FreeStyle Navigator Continuous Glucose Monitoring System in people with Type 1 diabetes mellitus at good glycemic control. The investigators hypothesize that the access to real-time continuous glucose concentration data along with alarms will enable people with type 1 diabetes at reasonable metabolic control to reduce the time spent in hypoglycaemia.

NCT ID: NCT00843141 Completed - Clinical trials for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

The Efficacy of Computerized Cognitive Training in Adults With ADHD: Change in ADHD Symptoms, Executive Functions and Quality of Life Following Three Months of Training.

Start date: May 2009
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The study group of Adults with ADHD who will receive cognitive (executive attention) computerized training will show significant improvement in ADHD symptomatology, neuropsychological measures, daily functioning and quality of life. A significant difference will be found between the study group and the control group (adults with ADHD that will receive a simplified cognitive training program that does not challenge their executive functions)on the above measures.

NCT ID: NCT00843128 Completed - Multiple Sclerosis Clinical Trials

The Effectiveness of Locomotor Therapy Using Robot-Driven Gait Orthosis System in Multiple Sclerosis Patients

Start date: March 2009
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of robot-assisted gait training (RAGT) in MS patients with severe walking disabilities (Expanded Disability Status Scale [EDSS] 5.5-7) as compared to regular physiotherapy. Methods: Prospective, randomized, controlled clinical trial comparing RAGT with conventional walking training (CWT) in a group of stable MS patients (n=40) during an outpatient rehabilitation program. Inclusion criteria are chronic or secondary progressive MS patients with EDSS between 5.5-7, stable treatment 3 months before study entry, without generalized diseases. All patients will sign an informed consent. Following randomization, 20 patients will be treated with RAGT, 12 sessions over three weeks. The control group will be treated by CWT, 12 sessions in three weeks. The primary outcome measures will be the Functional Ambulatory Capacity (FAC) scale and the 6-minutes walking distance. The secondary outcome measures will be the Time up & Go (TUG) test, 10 Meter Walking test, Berg balance test, EDSS score, FIM score and RAND questioner for quality of life. All tests will be performed by an external blinded assessor at baseline, after three weeks, and at follow-up after 3 months and six months. Importance: We anticipated that Robot-assisted gait training will be found as feasible and may be an effective therapeutic option in MS patients with severe walking disabilities.
