Safety and Efficacy of the Inspiromatic Inhaler in Comparison to the Aerolizer Inhaler When Delivering Formoterol

Double-blind study, randomized, controlled, and crossover. Study recruited 30 volunteers with stable asthma aged 8-18 years. Participants will perform lung function as part of the routine follow-up then will receive a Foradil 12mcg either with an Aerolizer (a standard dry powder inhaler) or with the Inspiromatic (an active, breath synchronized innovative inhaler). 3-60 days later participants will receive the same drug through the other inhaler. Pre and post treatment (15 min, 30 min, 60 min) Lung function results, drug levels in the blood, vital signs and side effects will be recorded.

Transient ECG Changes in Patients With Acute Biliary Disease

Background: The importance of ischemic ECG changes including St segment elevation, ST segment depression or T wave inversion that indicate myocardial ischemia are well established and require appropriate investigation and treatment. However, there is an abundance of clinical situation, with apparently ischemic ECG change not indicate traditionally coronary artery related ischemia and therefore require prompt recognition and treatment of underlying condition, that may be serious and life-threatened. For example of such conditions are pericarditis, myocarditis, aortic dissection, electrolyte abnormalities, intracranial hemorrhage and hypothermia. Together with them, an ECG ST segment changes may appeared in abdominal serious illness such as pancreatitis and cholecystitis(17,18,19,20,23). Whereas in pancreatitis various vasoactive and toxic for myocardium substances released, the cause of ST segment changes in cholecystitis are discussed and includes tachycardia , vagal reflexes, changed in plasma rennin activity resulted by distension of the gallbladder. The certain proportion of the patients with ECG changes actually didn't have coronary artery disease(9,15) or other acute cardiac condition and therefore require treatment of the underlie illness only without spend the time for cardiac investigation or special treatment(1,3,4,7,8). Some kind of treatment may be even harmful for the patients with abdominal illness such as thrombolytic, anticoagulant, aggressive antiaggregant therapy or unnecessary cardiac catheterization. In the medical literature the investigators found some case reports and works about the ECG changes in acute biliary disease in patient with knowing cardiac disease and without it, but actually incidence of ECG changes that suggest but not represent an acute coronary illness isn't knowing. Therefore this is necessary to investigate actually incidence of ECG changes that mimic acute coronary syndrome in acute cholecystitis and acute biliary disease and determined clinical and laboratory characteristics that helps to differentiate this patients.

Telomere Parameters in Patients With Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver

Telomerase, through its regulatory function on telomere length may play an important role in immune function, cellular replicative life span, and carcinogenesis. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is considered a benign condition, but in some cases, it may progress to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The risk factors for that evolution are not fully understood. Our group showed in a previous study, that hTERT mRNA expression is lower in peripheral lymphocytes of patients with fatty liver, compared to healthy controls. This finding could explain the telomere shortening found previously in these patients by our group [20] and others [21]. Furthermore, we found higher rates of TC in these patients, probably due to an attempt to counteract the shortening of the telomeres and to stabilize them. This is through a different mechanism that is not telomerase-mediated. Telomere capture is considered an alternative way to maintain telomere length and chromosomal stability [3]. It is a more common mechanism for chromosome stabilization and repair, in contrast to the telomerase-mediated process of chromosome healing and elongation This study aimed to evaluate mechanisms of telomere homeostasis like telomere shortening, telomerase activity, telomere capture and aneuploidy in patients with NAFLD in order to explain previous findings of telomere shortening in these patients.

Cyanobacteria Allergy in Lake Kineret

People swimming or surfing in lake Kineret , sometimes complain of nasal stuffiness , sneezing and itching .Typically, it happens during or immediately after contact with the lake`s water . The symptoms are compatible with immediate allergic reaction. Previous reports suggested a connection between similar symptoms and contact with different cyanobacteria (living in fresh water lakes). In this study we intend to prove the mechanism of these reactions. To prove the exact allergen that causes allergic rhinitis allergists perform skin tests with different suspected allergens. Likewise, we would like to perform skin tests to different proteins extracted from cyanobacteria collected in lake Kineret.

A Sustainable Diet for Hadassah Employees Workers

The aim of this protocol is to use a multidisciplinary approach to convey nutrition and activity messages to randomly selected Hadassah Medical Center employees. The intervention will be for one academic year and include frontal talks, email and internet focus group interactions, public demonstrations and a focused intervention within the hospital kitchen. The outcomes are specific parameters of dietary modifications, degree of physical activity and health related perspectives. Outcomes will be recorded at baseline and by the end of the intervention ( one year).
