The primary aim of this research is to examine physical activity in a healthy population aged over 40 years old. Subsidiary aims of this research are: 1. To establish normative values for physical activity levels, exercise capacity, quality of life and readiness to change physical activity behaviour (stages of change, self-efficacy, decisional balance and processes of change) in a healthy population age-matched to a population with bronchiectasis. 2. To explore physical activity levels, exercise capacity and quality of life in a healthy population age-matched to a population with bronchiectasis. 3. To explore readiness to change physical activity behaviour (stages of change, self-efficacy, processes of change and decisional balance) in a healthy population compared to a population with bronchiectasis.
This Phase 3 study evaluated the efficacy and safety of 1 milligram/kilogram (mg/kg) intravenous (IV) infusions of SBC-102 (sebelipase alfa) administered every other week (qow) in participants with late onset lysosomal acid lipase deficiency (LAL-D) (cholesteryl ester storage disease [CESD]). Late-onset LAL-D is an underappreciated cause of cirrhosis, liver failure and dyslipidemia. There is currently no standard treatment for LAL-D other than supportive care. Enzyme replacement therapy may be a potential new treatment option for LAL-D participants.

Aortic stenosis is the most common adult valvular heart disease in the western world. Heart failure and sudden cardiac death are complications associated with aortic stenosis. In symptomatic individuals, valve replacement is often the only effective treatment. However, there are no good markers to identify patients who may benefit from early surgery before symptoms developed. The purpose of the study is to test the hypothesis that the presence heart muscle scarring on the cardiac magnetic resonance imaging may predict a worse outcome in patients with aortic stenosis, and thus may be helpful in identifying patients for early valve replacement.
This is a First in Human study to assess the safety and tolerability of AZD7624, following inhaled administration of single ascending doses in healthy male volunteers and female volunteers of non-child bearing potential. Pharmacokinetics (what the body does to the drug) and pharmacodynamic (what the drug does to the body) parameters will be also assessed as secondary objectives.
Diabetes is an increasingly common condition affecting millions of people world wide. The cornerstone of treatment is lifestyle that includes looking at the way how people eat. It is known that food containing compounds called polyphenols can reduce the risk of heart disease risk in people with diabetes. Two foods that are rich sources of polyphenols are cocoa (epicatechins) and soy (isoflavones). Previous studies have shown the benefits of these foods in the diets of people with diabetes. It has also been shown that soy isoflavones and cocoa polyphenols can improve the mood in certain groups of patients. What is not known is whether there is any extra benefit of combining soy protein and isoflavones with cocoa. The aim of the study is to look at the modification of cardiovascular risk by soy and/or cocoa in patients with type 2 diabetes, alone or in combination.
NU-AGE is a large multidisciplinary consortium (31 partners, from 17 EU countries) involving nutritionists, bio-gerontologists, immunologists and molecular biologists from the most prestigious institutions in Europe, 5 large food industries, 8 traditional food companies and 1 biotech SME, SPES GEIE and CIAA, covering the SME Food Industrial Associations of 13 European countries and the European Confederation the food and drink industry. NU-AGE aims are: 1. to counteract the physical/cognitive decline occurring in the elderly as a consequence of the progressive alteration of different organs/systems (immune and cardiovascular systems, bone, brain, muscle and intestine) by one year elderly-tailored whole diet intervention on 1250 healthy elderly men and women aged 65-79 years (half diet, half control) from 5 different EU regions; 2. to assess the effect of the newly designed food pyramid specific for 65+ EU citizens on the different organs/systems using a large set of biomarkers related to nutrition and aging, with particular attention to the low grade, chronic, systemic inflammatory status named inflammageing, a major risk factor for common age-related diseases; 3. to perform in a subgroup of 120 subjects in depth studies and high throughput "omics" to identify cellular/molecular targets/mechanisms responsible for whole diet effect; 4. to perform genetic and epigenetic studies to assess the role of individual variability on the response to diet; 5. to adopt an integrative comprehensive approach (systems biology) to analyze the whole set of data. The results of dietary intervention will be used to develop elderly-tailored prototypes of functional foods and to improve traditional foods. The research activity will be accompanied and followed by a strong activity of dissemination and industrial exploitation to support EU strategies on nutritional recommendations, thus contributing to the implementation of legislation related to nutritional and health claims for elderly in Europe.
The purpose of the study is to document long-term response in real-life practice after injection cycles with BoNT-A in subjects suffering from idiopathic cervical dystonia (Long-term clinical and pharmaco-economic data).
This is a Phase II, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study designed to assess the safety and clinical activity of multiple intravenous doses of MCMV5322A/MCMV3068A in cytomegalovirus (CMV)-seronegative recipients of a renal transplant from a CMV-seropositive donor, with use of a preemptive approach for prevention of CMV disease. Participants will be randomized into two treatment groups: active or placebo control; both arms will be followed preemptively. The study has a planned enrollment of approximately 120 participants (60 active and 60 placebo).
