The objective of this study is to demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of the SING IMT (Smaller Incision New Generation Implantable Miniature Telescope) 3X implant in improving vision in patients with central vision impairment associated with end-stage Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). Eligible patients will be implanted with the SING IMT device and will be followed-up for a period of 12-months with post-operative ophthalmic exams and low-vision rehabilitation sessions.

A randomized controlled trial to evaluate AGN1 to prevent secondary hip fractures in osteoporotic women undergoing treatment of index hip fractures. Up to 2400 subjects will be randomized between a treatment group and a control group. Subjects will be followed for a minimum of 5 years after undergoing hip fracture repair surgery.

A Long-term Follow-up Study of Sotatercept for PAH Treatment (MK-7962-004/A011-12)

This study is being conducted to assess the long-term safety, tolerability, and efficacy of sotatercept (MK-7962, formerly called ACE-011) in participants with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). This open-label, long-term follow-up (LTFU) study is supported by data from the PULSAR study (Phase 2, NCT03496207) in which treatment with sotatercept resulted in hemodynamic and functional improvements in the study participants, including those receiving maximal PAH therapy with double/triple drug combinations and intravenous prostacyclin. The primary objective of this open-label, LTFU study is to evaluate the long-term safety and tolerability of sotatercept when added to background PAH therapy in adult participants with PAH who have completed prior sotatercept studies. The secondary objective is to evaluate continued efficacy in adult participants with PAH who have completed prior sotatercept studies.

Interventions for Malignant Pleural Effusions Impact on Fatigue

Malignant Pleural Effusions (MPE) are a common problem with around 40,000 new cases in the UK each year. The presence of an MPE suggests a poor prognosis of on average of 3-12 months. It is therefore vital that the investigators consider how respiratory and palliative care physicians can best support patients with MPEs to have the best quality of life possible. Breathlessness is the most common presenting symptom of an MPE and so impact on this has previously been studied . Cancer-related fatigue is very common with evidence suggesting around 40% of patients experience fatigue at diagnosis and up to 90% during anti-cancer treatment such as radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Review of the literature suggests that whether interventions to manage MPEs can improve patient fatigue has not previously been studied. The aim of this study is to assess if interventions for MPEs could potentially improve patient fatigue as this information will be valuable for both patients and referring health-care professionals when making the decision of whether to have a procedure or not and build on the current evidence base around management of MPEs. The study will be part of a Masters in Clinical Research and will be within a single trust. It will be a pilot study for a potentially larger multi-center study. With this in mind, aspects of how the study runs and notes on how it could be improved upon will be carefully recorded.

Learning MRI and Histology Image Mappings for Cancer Diagnosis and Prognosis.

Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) is now widely used to risk stratify men with a suspicion of prostate cancer and identify suspicious regions for biopsy. Advanced MRI techniques have emerged which seek to improve this characterisation and could predict biopsy results non-invasively before men undergo biopsy. Before these techniques are translated clinically, robust histological and clinical validation is required. This study aims to clinically validate advanced MRI techniques in a cohort of men suspected with prostate cancer. Histological analysis of men undergoing biopsy, +/- prostatectomy will be used for biological validation of VERDICT; Vascular and Extracellular Restricted Diffusion for Cytometry in Tumours and Luminal Water imaging (LWI). In particular, prostatectomy specimens will be processed using 3-D printed patient-specific moulds to allow for accurate MRI and histology mapping.

The rationale for this study is to prospectively investigate the outcomes of patients undergoing standard dietetic interventions alongside treatment for their advanced gastrointestinal cancers, and to further characterise the relationship with body composition. A number of patients will be enrolled in a sub-study investigating the neuronal-enteroendocrine-hypothalamic axis. Gut hormone study. Our hypothesis is that proinflammatory cytokines produced by the tumour can not only affect appetite directly through the vagal and the central melanocortin system but also indirectly though the enhanced EEC activity; either through increased number or increased function. In this study, the investigators will explore and compare the pattern and levels (pre-prandial and post prandial) of the pro-inflammatory cytokines and gut hormones between stage-standardised anorexic and non-anorexic cancer patients and age-matched healthy controls.

There are many available treatments for pulmonary embolism (PE), but the best treatment for this condition is not known. The HI-PEITHO study will compare two treatment options that are both available on the market for the treatment of PE. Patients will be randomized 1:1 to receive either blood thinners (anticoagulation) or blood thinners (anticoagulation) in combination with a device called the EkoSonicTM Endovascular device to dissolve blood clots. Patients will be followed for 12 months after randomization and have assessments while in the hospital as well as at 7 days, 30 days, 6 months and 12 months after randomization. The study will try to find out if one of these treatments is better than the other at reducing the risk of death and other serious problems.
