Trial of 1 Cycle of Adjuvant BEP Chemotherapy in High Risk, Stage 1 Non-seminomatous Germ Cell Testis Tumours

High-risk stage 1 NSGCTTs are curable with careful surveillance followed by 3 cycles of BEP (bleomycin, etoposide, cisplatin with 500mg/m2 of etoposide per cycle) chemotherapy for the 40-50% of cases experiencing recurrence. Alternatively, adjuvant chemotherapy with 2 cycles of BEP(at a lower dose than that used for advanced disease - etoposide 360mg/m2) for these patients achieves the same outcome and avoids intensive surveillance, but delivers 33% more chemotherapy cycles on a population basis. If a single cycle of BEP at the dose used in advanced disease had a similar high rate of relapse-free survival (cure) to that seen with two lower dose cycles, this would reduce the overall burden of chemotherapy and healthcare resource usage and would be likely to lead to a change in practice globally.

What Are the Determinations of Adult Progressive CKD? The Renal Impairment In Secondary Care (RIISC) Study

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects up to 16% of the adult population and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. People at highest risk from progressive CKD are defined by a sustained decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and/or the presence of significant albuminuria/proteinuria. Accurate mapping of the bio-clinical determinants of this group will enable improved risk stratification and direct the development of better targeted management for people with CKD. To address these requirements we have established the Renal Impairment in Secondary Care (RIISC) study; RIISC is enrolling a cohort of patients at high risk from progressive CKD and compiling a comprehensive and detailed bio-clinical phenotype, including vascular and oral health phenotyping, at enrolment and on subsequent follow-up.

This study is looking at treating cancer pain in head and neck cancer. Patients are asked in outpatients to score their worst pain on a scale of 0 to 10 in the last 24 hours. Those with a pain score of 4 and above are randomised into the study. Patients are allocated to continue with their current care (control group) or to be reviewed by the pain/palliative care team (intervention group). At baseline questionnaires are completed on level of pain, type of pain, quality of life and anxiety/depression. Information is also collected on the analgesia they've used in the past month and basic health economics (GP/hospital visits related to pain management and treatment). Follow up in the trial is for 3 months and consists of questionnaires as above and further collection of information on analgesic usage and health economics.

Sidus(TM) Post Market Clinical Follow-up (PMCF) Study

This post market clinical follow-up study is designed to confirm safety and performance of the Sidus Stem-Free Shoulder when used in hemi or total shoulder arthroplasty. The safety of the implant will be evaluated by monitoring the frequency and incidence of all kinds of adverse events. The performance will be determined by analyzing the implant survival, overall pain and functional performances (based on Constant & Murley score and ASES score), subject quality of life (EuroQol EQ5D) and radiographic parameters (e.g. radiolucencies, osteolysis, component migration) of study subjects who received the Sidus Stem-Free Shoulder. The Sidus Stem-Free Shoulder is not approved for use in the US.
