The Role of Patient Expectations in Traumatic Orthopedic Outcomes-TEFTOM EURASIA

Design: Prediction trial, up to 10 sites in Asia and Europe Goal: To better understand the "success" or "failure" after orthopedic trauma surgery by developing a model that can be applied clinically as a user-friendly "baseline" questionnaire - capable of predicting "success" or "failure" based on a patient's pre-surgical expectations of their final outcome and to validate a novel outcomes measure (TOM). Primary aim: To assess the psychometric properties of predictive validity, internal consistency and reproducibility of the trauma expectation factor (TEF) in the Eurasian population. Secondary aim: To assess the psychometric properties of criterion validity, internal consistency,reproducibility, and sensitivity to change of the TOM in the Eurasian population. Key questions related to patient and surgeon expectations: - How different, or similar, are patient and surgeon expectations? - Do expectations change over time? - Do patient expectations predict outcomes in validated measures use today?

Perianal Versus Endoanal Application of Glyceryl Trinitrate 0.4% Ointment for Chronic Anal Fissure

Perianal topical nitroglycerin has been widely used as a means for avoiding surgery in patients with anal fissure. However, nitroglycerin has not been universally accepted for this application because of inconsistency of efficacy and side effects. Recent studies (Dis Colon Rectum. 2007 Apr;50(4):509-16) have demonstrated that nitroglycerin ointment products compounded by pharmacies did not meet the USP specifications for potency and/or content uniformity when filling a prescription for 0.3 percent nitroglycerin ointment. These results raise significant issues as to whether the patient is put at undue risk relative to the relief of their anal fissure pain. In addition, one study (Dis Colon Rectum. 2006 Jun;49(6):865-8) has demonstrated that intra-anal dosing of topical nitroglycerin produces a significantly greater reduction in sphincteric pressure and lower incidence of headaches than with perianal administration of the same dose of ointment. Topical glyceryl trinitrate 0.4% ointment has been developed and tested in clinical trials and is effective in healing chronic anal fissures. It assures exactly dose and concentration of nitroglycerin. Hypothesis: The endoanal application of exactly dose and concentration of nitroglycerin must reduced headache and the final recurrence. Safety, Antiviral Effect and PK of BI 207127 + BI 201335 +/- RBV for 4 up to 40 Weeks in Patients With Chronic HCV Genotype 1 Infection

The substances BI 201335 and BI 207127 are being developed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus infection. BI 201335 and BI 207127 work by preventing the virus from replicating. The currently available medications pegylated interferon alfa and ribavirin for hepatitis C ca have considerable adverse events in patients and in many cases are not sufficiently effective. This is particularly the case in treatment of patients infected with genotype 1 of HCV. A combination therapy of these new substances without pegylated interferon alfa may be associated with fewer adverse events that currently available (pegylated interferon-alfa-based) medication and may also provide a treatment option to the large number of patients with contraindications or intolerance to pegylated interferon alfa. This clinical trial (1241.21) currently consists of 3 distinct studies: Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3. Part 1 (SOUND-C1) is a 2 armed study as described in experimental arms 1 and 2 below (actual enrollment: 56 patients; randomized and treated: 32) Part 2 (SOUND-C2) is a 5 armed study as described in experimental arms 3 to 7 below (actual enrollment: 465; randomized and treated: 362) Part 3 (SOUND-C3) includes 3 arms as described in experimental arms 8 to 10 below (83 patients randomized and treated)

A Study of Capecitabine [Xeloda] in Combination With Trastuzumab [Herceptin] and Oxaliplatine in Patients With Resectable Gastric Cancer

This study will evaluate the disease free survival rate of a combination of capecitabine [Xeloda] and oxaliplatin (XELOX) with trastuzumab [Herceptin] in patients with resectable gastric cancer. The combination of Xeloda (orally, 1000 mg/m2 on day 1-14 of every cycle) and Herceptin (intravenously, 8 mg/kg loading dose, then 6 mg/kg on days 1-14 of every cycle) will be administered for three cycles prior to surgery to resect the tumor. If complete resection, R0 or microscopic residual tumor R1 is achieved, patients will continue with three cycles of XELOX and Herceptin and then for completion of 12 months treatment with Herceptin alone. Oxaliplatin will be administered intravenously at a dose of 130 mg/m2 on day 1 in every cycle. The anticipated time on study drug will be 12 months.

In addition, the secondary objective was to collect additional long-term safety data on aripiprazole IM depot treatment.
