The purpose of this study is to learn whether dapagliflozin, after 12 weeks, can improve (decrease) blood pressure in patients with type 2 diabetes with uncontrolled hypertension who are on an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor or an angiotensin receptor blocker. The safety of this treatment will also be studied.

Multicenter, Randomized Placebo-controlled Clinical Trial to Evaluate the Effect of Perioperative Use of Tranexamic Acid on Transfusion Requirements and Surgical Bleeding in Major Spine Surgery

Current evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of perioperative administration of tranexamic acid for antifibrinolysis does not suffice to support its use in major spinal surgery. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effectiveness of tranexamic acid for decreasing transfusion requirements and bleeding in this patient population. To evaluate the safety of this antifibrinolytic agent in the intraoperative and mid-term postoperative period. METHODS: Multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial with parallel groups. The main outcome measure is intraoperative and postoperative transfusion requirements; blood loss and safety will also be evaluated. Previous results in other types of surgery suggest that tranexamic acid reduces transfusion requirements and blood loss. Hence, the hypothesis of this study is that tranexamic acid will significantly reduce blood loss in comparison to a placebo in major spine surgery.

A Study of Avastin (Bevacizumab) in Combination With Xelox and Tarceva in Patients With Metastatic Colorectal Cancer.

This study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of a first-line regimen of Avastin and Xelox (Xeloda + Eloxatin) followed by Avastin and Tarceva, in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. Patients will receive 6 x 21 day cycles of treatment with Avastin (7.5mg/kg iv on day 1), Xeloda (1000mg/m2 po twice daily on days 1 to 14) and Eloxatin (130mg/m2 iv on day 1). Patients free of disease progression will then continue with Avastin (7.5mg/kg iv once every 3 weeks) and Tarceva (150mg po daily). The anticipated time on study treatment is until disease progression, and the target sample size is <100 individuals.

The safety and performance of two different drug release rate formulations of the Evolution Stent will be compared to the commercially available PROMUS (TM) Element (TM) drug-eluting stent.
