There are about 21071 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Spain. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The purpose of this study is to provide data showing if there are any effects of GSK3036656 on a combined oral contraceptive containing Ethinyl Estradiol (EE) and Levonorgestrel (LNG), which will help inform future studies on suitable contraceptive measures to be used.
The aim of the study is to determine the effectiveness of an immersive virtual reality learning programme for nursing students, based on virtual glasses, in acquiring the competence (knowledge, skills and attitudes) to care for patients with pressure ulcers, and to compare it with the traditional teaching method. The design was an exploratory randomised controlled trial. The variables used to measure effectiveness were competence and its attributes: knowledge assessment by a multiple-choice test (Pressure Ulcer Knowledge Assessment Tool, Pukat 2.0 instrument), skill performance by direct observation of procedural skills (simulated cases with standardised patients) and satisfaction and usability assessment (Usefulness, Satisfaction and Ease of Use Questionnaire).
The objective is to compare a reduced stent strategy based on drug-coated balloon (DCB) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with conventional drug-eluting stent (DES) coronary revascularization in patients presenting with ST-segment myocardial infarction (STEMI). Randomization will be performed after successful culprit-lesion guidewire crossing and flow restoration. Random allocation in a 1:1 fashion to one of the following strategies: - Study group: reduced stent PCI strategy (DCB-based) - Control group: conventional PCI strategy (DES-based).
Two primary care-based screening systems will be tested to identify subjects with referrable glaucoma to hospital care. Subjects between 45 to 64 years old living in the metropolitan area of Barcelona will be invited to participate in a one-time visit, with an optic disc examination and intraocular pressure (IOP). The criteria for referring a patient will be the detection of glaucoma but with two different approaches depending on which Integrated Practice Unit (IPU) the patients will be allocated to: one arm using an Artificial Intelligence (AI) reading software of the optic disc picture; and the other one will base their referral after an ophthalmic examination performed by an ophthalmologist. In both circuits, an optic nerve head photography will be obtained, and a masked reading center will be established to determine the ground truth for diagnosis. This screening trial will explore the level of agreement between both systems and the cost-effectiveness of each of them. Secondary analyses will include potential diagnostic composite scores (including other ancillary tests, such as optical coherence tomography images, that could maximize the screening process); the identification of population and disease characteristics (type of glaucoma, intraocular pressure) that could increase the effectivity and adherence to the screening process.
The benefits of multicomponent physical exercise (MPE) in the mental and physical health of older adults are widely accepted. However, during Covid19 pandemic, some face-to-face programs for physical exercise were canceled. The situation was particularly complex in nursing homes (NHs) because residents were often confined to their floors and many leisure activities were canceled. Online physical exercise sessions increased their popularity during the pandemic. However, there is no evidence that online physical exercise sessions are an effective alternative to face-to-face sessions for older people living in NHs. The current project aims to assess a synchronous online MPE program's feasibility, acceptability, and effects. With this aim, first a synchronous online MPE intervention was designed and then a multicenter randomized controlled trial with 3 branches was developed: face-to-face MPE, online MPE and control. Participants in the control group will receive advice to maintain physical activity and reduce sedentary behavior. Additionally, those in the intervention groups will also participate in 24-week individualized and progressive MPE programs performed at moderate intensity that will be focused on strength, balance, and endurance. MPE will be performed through supervised sessions (2 per week). One of the intervention groups will be supervised face-to-face whereas the other will be supervised synchronously online. Study assessments will be conducted at baseline, at the end of the 24-week intervention, and after 24-week follow-up. The primary outcomes of the study will be changes in mental and physical health. Secondary outcomes will include other parameters of mental and physical health, together with physical activity, frailty, quality of life, and biological markers. The dropout rate, the adherence, the injuries and other adverse events suffered by the participants, and technical incidences produced in the online modality will be recorded. A mixed-model ANCOVA will be performed to compare the data between intervention and control groups, considering as co-variables baseline measurements. The statistical analysis will be performed on the whole sample and separated for sex/gender. The study received ethical approval (M10_2022_405_IRAZUSTA ASTIAZARAN). The results of this project will be transferred to institutions and entities involved in managing NHs to increase the opportunities for the residents to remain physically active.
Pulmonary vein (PV) isolation is considered the therapeutic strategy of choice to maintain sinus rhythm (SR) in symptomatic patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). The most commonly used energy modality is radiofrequency (RF). However, this type of energy presents notable challenges, such as its lack of selectivity for myocardial tissue, which increases the risk of serious complications such as atrioesophageal fistula, PV stenosis, and vagus nerve injuries. In this context, PV isolation using pulsed field ablation (PFA) emerges as a promising alternative due to its greater myocardial selectivity. However, this selectivity presents additional challenges. Preliminary studies indicate that PFA may not damage the autonomic nervous system (ANS) involved in the initiation and maintenance of AF in certain patients, although stronger evidence is needed to support this claim. The investigators propose to carry out a single-center clinical trial, although with the possibility in the future of including other centers. Patients will be randomized to three research groups: PV isolation with RF, PV isolation with PFA, and PV isolation combining PFA and RF (using RF on the anterior wall and PFA on the posterior wall). This assignment will be open to the operator who performs the procedure, but blind for the researcher responsible for monitoring and for the data analyst. The objective is to compare the impact of different energy sources during PV isolation on the ability to produce a permanent alteration in the ANS. The hypothesis is that combined PF isolation will be capable of producing a permanent alteration of autonomic function parameters superior to ablation using exclusive PFA.
PROCARE is a preventive intervention that has shown its effectiveness in selective prevention to reduce young people's risk of developing emotional problems. In this study, an uncontrolled pre-post study is carried out where this personalized transdiagnostic preventive intervention in online mode is applied in the indicated population, with the following objectives: 1) provide data about whether there are improvements in the emotional state of adolescents after implementing PROCARE-I+; and 2) evaluate if there is any risk factor that predicts anxiety-depressive symptoms and/or emotional difficulties. The sample was made up of 30 adolescents who showed symptoms of anxiety and/or depression and a high risk of developing an emotional disorder and who benefited from the preventive, transdiagnostic, online and personalized intervention called PROCARE-I+. After the analysis of the data collected at the pre-intervention and post-intervention time, the data revealed that the intervention had an impact on improving the emotional state of the adolescents in terms of anxious-depressive symptomatology, quality of life and emotional regulation. On the other hand, the data revealed the absence of predictive relationships between the presence of a risk factor and suffering from symptoms of anxiety and depression; In contrast, predictive relationships were found between the presence of the family risk factor and suffering from some emotional difficulty.
The purpose of the study is to evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of balcinrenone/dapagliflozin compared with dapagliflozin alone on patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and albuminuria. This study will evaluate the effect of the balcinrenone/dapagliflozin on urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR), compared with dapagliflozin in patients with CKD. This is a dose-finding study aiming to identify an optimal dose of balcinrenone/dapagliflozin for a future Phase III study in patients with CKD.
The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate safety and tolerability of preservative-free parenteral treprostinil in paediatric patients with PAH (PH Group 1) who are below 18 years of age. The main question it aims to answer is: • if preservative-free parenteral treprostinil is safe and tolerable in the treatment of paediatric PAH in patients who are either treatment-naïve or have been previously treated with commercially available parenteral treprostinil formulations. Participants will receive either subcutaneous (SC) or intravenous (IV) preservative-free treprostinil and will be observed for 5 months (20 weeks ± 1 week).
The goal of this clinical trial is to assess the effectiveness of adding specific Blackboard Training (BB) exercises to conventional physiotherapy in improving foot and ankle parameters essential for fall prevention among older adults. The main questions it aims to answer are: 1. Can the addition of BB exercises improve ankle dorsiflexion mobility? 2. Can the addition of BB exercises enhance single-leg stability and control of mediolateral displacement of the center of pressure? Participants will be divided into control and intervention groups. Both groups will receive their usual conventional physiotherapy exercises. The intervention group will undergo a 5-week program comprising 10 sessions of BB exercises targeting ankle mobility and balance. Participants will be asked to: - Perform 3 sets of 15 repetitions for assisted ankle dorsiflexion mobility. - Engage in 5 rounds of 40-second balance exercises using the BB. Researchers will compare the intervention group's outcomes with those of the control group to determine the effectiveness of adding BB exercises in improving foot and ankle parameters related to fall prevention.
