There are about 11304 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Denmark. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The aim of TRANSLATE is to implement genetic information directly into patient care to improve diagnosis and treatment of non-autoimmune diabetes. This project is the first large-scale implementation of systematic genetic testing within a common, non-communicable, chronic disease in Denmark, and will spearhead efforts to advance personalized medicine in Denmark. The project will contribute to establishing technology, workflow, and evidence on how to implement and communicate actionable genetic information to clinicians and patients in a generalized format. These developments are pivotal for personalized medicine to reach broader clinical application.

The primary objective for this study is to evaluate the long-term safety and tolerability of NBI-827104 in pediatric participants with epileptic encephalopathy with continuous spike-and-wave during sleep (EECSWS).
Diabetic Retinopathy is a microvascular eye complication of diabetes, which can go unnoticed until permanent vision damage has occurred - in worst-case blindness. Timely retinopathy screenings reduce the risk of sight loss since the disease can be treated if detected in time. For people with type 2 diabetes, retinopathy screenings are typically performed by specialist at private ophthalmologists' practices, and individualized screening intervals based on retinopathy level and diabetes regulation are recommended. Unfortunately, 26% of people with type 2 diabetes do not follow their screening interval, and the attendance is too low compared to the national standard of minimum 90% of patients with diabetes who ought to follow the screening program. Consequently, actions must be taken to improve screening attendance in Denmark. The aim of this study is to investigate patients' acceptance of diabetic retinopathy screenings in general practice. Patients' acceptance is explored through a questionnaire developed for the study.
End stage renal disease is annually diagnosed in about one thousand patients in Denmark, and one of the treatment modalities in renal replacement therapy is peritoneal dialysis with about 25 % of patients assigned to this treatment (Hommel2010). Peritoneal dialysis is based on the principle of filtering waste products to peritoneal fluid and by exchange of peritoneal fluid eliminate waste products from the body. In peritoneal dialysis commonly used fluids contain glucose. Exposure to high glucose levels in peritoneal fluid during peritoneal dialysis has several side effects. Primarily, as glucose passes over and into the peritoneal membrane it causes local inflammation which leads to fibrosis over time (Zhou2016). Fibrosis limits the capacity of the exchange of water and waste products over the peritoneal membrane. The decrease of peritoneal exchange capacity is most commonly the reason for termination of peritoneal dialysis. SGLT2-channels are identified in peritoneal mesothelial cells of rats (Debray-Carcia 2016), and most recently also in humans (Shentu2021). An in vitro model of human peritoneal mesothelial cells incubated with the SGLT2-inhibitor (empagliflozin) has shown significantly decrease in glucose uptake (Zhou2019). Exposure to intraperitoneal empagliflozin in rats, reduced the uptake of glucose over the peritoneal membrane significantly by 78 % and the ultrafiltration was increased (Zhou2019). Currently, to our knowledge, no clinical trials have been conducted in humans attending peritoneal dialysis with the aim of investigating either the effect or safety of SGLT2i, as it is indeed the first of its kind, with the aim of including participants in peritoneal dialysis.
Bladder Cancer prognosis, treatment, and subsequent morbidity and mortality vary between the different stages, thus resulting in a different impact on patients' lives. There are some well known late effects of the treatments for bladder cancer, but the knowledge of their impact on patients Quality of Life is sparse. This study aims to determine the prevalence of late effects impact on Quality of Life and potential risk factors for impairment.
This subproject aims to evaluate a new nerve excitability protocol to induce itch in healthy controls by electrical stimulation. Itch has many similarities with pain, and the nerve fibers that mediate the two sensations probably have the same morphological and excitability properties. The method used in this project will be the same as our research group uses for studying nociceptor fibers (PTT technique), but the focus is on the itch sensation. Since the itch fibers also terminate in the epidermis, our PTT technique should also be able to activate itch fibers, similar to pain fibers. If itch could be effectively induced by electrical stimulation, this would generate a valuable tool for studying itch in healthy controls. The sub-project takes place in 2 sessions (2 hours each).
Being born small increases your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes (T2D) with age. Furthermore, data even suggest that some of the diseases ("complications") in the eyes, kidneys, nerves, liver, blood vessels and heart often seen in T2D patients may not only be due to high blood sugar levels, but rather they to some extent are due to reduced growth in your mother´s womb. The Inter99 cohort included 6784 Danish citizens aged 30 to 60 years when established 20 years ago. Data from the Inter99 cohort showed a strong role of low birth weight (LBW) on T2D risk. The aim is now to reexamine risk of T2D and complications in all the alive 6004 elderly Inter99 participants. Importantly, today there are available techniques to perform detailed examinations for even the earliest signs of complications in both subjects with and without diabetes, and the results of this study will altogether provide important new insights into both the origin and classification of T2D and associated complications. It is hypothesized that being born with lower birth weights increases the adult risk of T2D and heart disease and associated complications in the large and smaller blood vessels.
Identifying the cause of breathlessness in acute patients in the emergency department is critical and challenging. The chest X-ray is central but challenging to read for non-radiologist physicians. Often the physicians read the CXR alone due to off-hours and shortage of radiology specialists. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to aid the reading of chest X-rays. The hypothesis is that AI applied to chest X-rays improves emergency physicians' diagnostic accuracy in acute breathless patients.
