The decision to perform a surgical intervention or not after recovery from repeated uncomplicated episodes of acute diverticulitis remains controversial and the literature shows different conflicting approaches based on low-quality evidence.The goal of this trial is to achieve a better understanding of the impact of surgery on bowel function and QoL in patients with recurrent uncomplicated sigmoid diverticulitis in order to develop treatment guidelines.
This research project aims at contributing to improve TIA diagnosis and management by using PREDISC scores and specific biomarkers thought to have elevated levels in TIA patients. A swift and accurate TIA diagnosis allows starting treatment of the patient adequately and shortly after the event. The shorter the time between the event and treatment onset, the better the outcome. This approach will be an important step forward in TIA diagnosis and management, similarly to acute coronary syndrome as discussed above.
Transradial access (TRA) is commonly used in different medical fields due to the superficial position of the radial artery and related advantages. Despite its popularity, the incidence and importance of related complications, in particular, radial artery occlusion (RAO) remains unclear. Further, the only known independent predictors of the radial artery occlusion are the periprocedural anticoagulation as well as the catheter size. The effect of a variable arterial anatomy has so far not been evaluated. In this context, most institutions prefer to evaluate the collateral circulation of the hand, i.e., the arterial palmar arch and forearm circulation before TRA. The most commonly employed tests are the modified Allen test (MAT) or the combination of pulse oximetry and plethysmography according to Barbeau.In addition, there are more precise, but still semi-quantitative non-invasive methods for palmar arterial collateral function testing. Despite the wealth of these variably accurate and practical tests, invasive and direct hemodynamic measurement of the arterial forearm circulation and its components is lacking. Thus, the human physiologic circulatory reference at this site has been unknown so far. Further, the need of pre-procedural testing itself can be questioned in light of the reported, widely varying prevalence of RAO (1-38%) or critical ischemia (0-0.09%) after TRA. The present study investigated in a first step the invasively obtained, pressure-derived hemodynamic function, i.e., the physiology of the human arterial palmar arch and forearm collateral circulation and in a second step the clinical consequences of the variable palmar arterial anatomy.
Exergames are games that require physical movements and are used with a therapeutic purpose, e.g. to improve strength, balance or flexibility. Exergames rely on technologies that track body movements and reaction, to perform exercises in a persuasive environment. Exergames are increasingly used in rehabilitation to improve motor function and independence of patients. Exergames are increasingly used for self-regulated exercise. However, usability of the MMGO is reduced by the fact that 1) therapists are needed to choose exercises and 2) adapt the exercise program depending on patients' ability level, and 3) patients' motivation reduces after about 5 sessions if exercises are not adapted and variation of exercises is low. The planned study aims to overcome the given limitations and thus improve usability. Using routine data of patients exercising with MMGO and clinical outcome measures this study will investigate the relationship between scores on the MMGO and on clinical outcome measures and how these scores change over time. In addition, the study will determine the relative difficulty levels of each exercise and its difficulty level in relation to participants' balance ability.
Phonak Hearing Systems pass through different development and study stages. At an early stage, feasibility studies are conducted to investigate new algorithms, features and functions in an isolated manner. If the benefit is proven, their performance is then investigated regarding interdependency between all available algorithms, features and functions running in parallel in a hearing aid (pivotal/pre-validation studies) and, as a result, they get optimized. Afterwards, and prior to product launch, the Phonak Hearing Systems undergo a final quality control in terms of clinical trials. This is a pre-validation study, investigating optimized algorithms, features, functions and wearing comfort. This will be a clinical evaluation which will be conducted mono centric at Sonova AG Headquarters based in Stäfa (Switzerland).
Participants will take part in both a passive and active emotion recognition task: (1) passively listening to semantically-neutral sentences with emotional prosody, and (2) actively listening and subsequently categorizing emotional sentences and sounds. Participants are seated and instructed to stare at a fixation cross while the stimulus is played. During this study, non-invasive physiological measurements of pupil dilation will be recorded from the participants. Using this paradigm we will be assessing the effect of frequency lowering on emotion recognition. The study takes the form of a partly three factorial design (passive task x frequency lowering x acclimatization). Participants also perform a two factor design (active task x frequency lowering). Each participant performs two passive tests (20 minutes long each) with frequency lowering on and off, and a four week acclimatization period in-between. Participants perform one active listening task after the acclimatization period with frequency lowering on and off.

Patients with hereditary hemochromatosis (HH) have an increased intestinal non-heme iron absorption due to a genetic mutation in the regulatory pathway, leading to excess iron in the body. This study investigates the inhibitory effect of a natural polyphenol Supplement in participants with HH.
Investigators conducted a single center, two-phased, open, controlled pharmacokinetic study to investigate the drug-drug interaction potential of metamizole. For this reason, healthy male volunteers were screened. Enrolled participants were phenotyped on day 1 using the Basel Cocktail (phenotyping cocktail containing specific substrates for CYP1A2, CYP2B6, CYP2C9, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, CYP3A4). After, they received metamizole treatment for 8 days (3 grams per day). On the 8th day (day 9), they were phenotyped again with the Basel Cocktail and the respective phenotypes (d1 vs. d9) were compared.
The project is designed as a large scale, cross-sectional study. This research seeks to identify physical fitness and cardiovascular parameters that best resemble underlying cardiovascular risk with age. Further, it will examine which physical fitness markers are impaired most in heart failure.
The aim of this first study is to investigate in a case series through sequential sonographic imaging, using Doppler ultrasonography, the postoperative morphology, especially vascularity and findings of neovascularity, after bursa augmentation in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.
