NCT ID: NCT00629889 Completed - Clinical trials for Brain and Central Nervous System Tumors

Levetiracetam or Pregabalin in Treating Seizures in Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy and/or Radiation Therapy For Primary Brain Tumors

Start date: February 2008
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Levetiracetam and pregabalin are drugs that treat seizures. It is not yet known which drug is more effective in treating seizures caused by primary brain tumors. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II trial is studying the side effects and how well levetiracetam or pregabalin work in treating seizures in patients undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy for primary brain tumors.

NCT ID: NCT00629252 Terminated - Schizophrenia Clinical Trials

The Effect of Sertindole on Sensory Gating and Cognition in Schizophrenic Patients

Start date: February 2008
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study aims to investigate whether the atypical antipsychotic and mixed 5-HT2/D2 antagonist sertindole modulates or improves both subcortical and cortical information processing in schizophrenic patients who had not or insufficiently responded to previous antipsychotic medication. This goal shall be accomplished by investigating the effect of sertindole of both prepulse inhibition of the acoustic startle (PPI) and P50 suppression of auditory evoked potentials in schizophrenic patients. These effects shall be compared to the effect of risperidone and shall also be compared to untreated healthy controls.

NCT ID: NCT00627770 Completed - Edema Clinical Trials

Lower Leg Edema Evaluation After Total Knee Arthroplasty Using Bioimpedance

Start date: January 2008
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the applicability and measurement properties of bioimpedance spectroscopy for postsurgical edema assessment after total knee arthroplasty

NCT ID: NCT00627640 Completed - Clinical trials for Idiopathic Parkinson's Disease

Safinamide in Idiopathic Parkinson's Disease (IPD) With Motor Fluctuations, as add-on to Levodopa

SETTLE
Start date: February 2009
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Parkinson's Disease is a major neurodegenerative disorder in which there is a progressive loss of dopamine-containing neurons. The understanding that PD is a syndrome of dopamine (DA) deficiency led to the introduction in the clinical practice of L-dopa, a precursor of DA that crosses the blood brain barrier, and also to the use of selective inhibitors of MAO-B, the major DA metabolising enzyme in man. Safinamide is an inhibitor of MAO-B. This is a phase III trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of safinamide (50 and 100 mg p.o. q.a.m.) compared to placebo as add-on therapy to a stable dose to levodopa in subjects with advance idiopathic Parkinson's Disease. The principal efficacy measure is the increase in mean daily "on" time during the 18-hr diary recording period.

NCT ID: NCT00627523 Completed - Clinical trials for Infant, Small for Gestational Age

Genotropin Treatment In Very Young Children Born Small For Gestational Age

EGN
Start date: February 2008
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

To demonstrate the effect on height and psychomotor development of Growth Hormone treatment in very young children starting at an age of 2 years.

NCT ID: NCT00626990 Active, not recruiting - Clinical trials for Brain and Central Nervous System Tumors

Phase III Trial of Anaplastic Glioma Without 1p/19q Loss of Heterozygosity (LOH)

CATNON
Start date: December 2007
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as temozolomide, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving radiation therapy together with temozolomide may kill more tumor cells. It is not yet known whether giving temozolomide during and/or after radiation therapy is more effective than radiation therapy alone in treating anaplastic glioma. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying giving temozolomide during and/or after radiation therapy to see how well it works compared to radiation therapy alone in treating patients with anaplastic glioma.

NCT ID: NCT00626899 Completed - Cardiac Arrest Clinical Trials

Comparison Performance Vigileo vs. Continuous CCO (Vigilance) in Patients With Induced Therapeutic Hypothermia

Start date: March 2007
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Patients resuscitated from a cardiac arrest undergo therapeutic hypothermia as a treatment option. Measuring the cardiac output in these patients is sometimes important, but difficult, as these patients require an invasive device for measurement. Recently, a non-invasive device based on pulse-contour analysis of the arterial pulse was developed (the Vigileo). Hypothermia changes the pulse contour, so the performance of the Vigileo in patients with induced therapeutic hypothermia is not known. Therefore we conduct this observational study in which the cardiac output of the patients is measured with the traditional method and the Vigileo simultaneously.

NCT ID: NCT00626730 Active, not recruiting - Clinical trials for Brain and Central Nervous System Tumors

Radiation Therapy in Treating Patients Who Have Undergone Surgery for Newly Diagnosed Grade II or Grade III Meningioma

Start date: December 2007
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Giving high-dose radiation therapy after surgery may kill any tumor cells that remain after surgery. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying radiation therapy to see how well it works in treating patients who have undergone surgery for newly diagnosed grade II or grade III meningioma.

NCT ID: NCT00626548 Terminated - Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials

A Phase III Trial of ZD4054 (Zibotentan) (Endothelin A Antagonist) in Non-metastatic Hormone Resistant Prostate Cancer

ENTHUSE M0
Start date: January 2008
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Enthuse M0 is a large phase III clinical trial studying the efficacy of ZD4054 (Zibotentan) in hormone resistant prostate cancer (HRPC). This clinical trial will test if the Endothelin A Receptor Antagonist ZD4054 (Zibotentan) can improve progression-free survival and overall survival against a background of existing prostate cancer treatments. ZD4054 (Zibotentan) is a new type of agent, which is thought to slow tumour growth and spread by blocking Endothelin receptor activity. This trial will look at the effects of ZD4054 (Zibotentan) in hormone resistant prostate cancer (HRPC) patients who have had rising PSA after surgical or medical castration but have no evidence of metastases. All patients participating in this clinical trial will receive existing prostate cancer treatments in addition to trial therapy. Half the patients will receive ZD4054 (Zibotentan) , and half the patients will receive placebo in addition to standard prostate cancer therapy. By participating in this trial there is a 50% chance that patients will receive an agent that may slow the progression of the tumour. No patients will be deprived of standard prostate cancer therapy.

NCT ID: NCT00626106 Completed - Breast Cancer Clinical Trials

QUILT-2.015: A Study of AMG 479 With Exemestane or Fulvestrant in Postmenopausal Women With Hormone Receptor Positive Locally Advanced or Metastatic Breast Cancer

Start date: March 2008
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 2 study. Subjects will include postmenopausal women with confirmed HR-positive, locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer, who have disease progression during or within 12 months after completing prior adjuvant endocrine therapy or during the first prior endocrine therapy for metastatic disease.
