There are about 9403 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Switzerland. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The ARTEMIS-IPF study was conducted to determine if ambrisentan was effective in delaying disease progression and death in participants with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), to evaluate its safety, and to evaluate its effect on development of pulmonary hypertension, quality of life, and dyspnea (shortness of breath) symptoms in this participant population. Participants were randomized in a 2:1 ratio to receive ambrisentan or placebo, respectively. Participation in the study was to be up to 4 years, depending on how long it would take to enroll participants and observe study events. After randomization, visits to the clinic took place every 3 months, and laboratory procedures were performed every month.
A study comparing conventional chemotherapy to low dose total body irradiation-based conditioning and hematopoietic cell transplantation from related and unrelated donors as consolidation therapy for older Patients with AML in first Complete Remission.
Background: Delirium and long-term cognitive dysfunction (CD) are important complications of major surgery and intensive care treatment. Delirium is associated with increased mortality and CD has an important impact on mortality, independency, social interactions, and quality of life. Delirium is an important risk factor for the development of long-term CD. Particularly, patients aged 65 or older undergoing cardiac surgery are at a high risk of developing these problems. There are data suggesting that inflammation plays a key role in the development of delirium and possibly CD. It has been shown that n-3 fatty acids modulate the immune response of patients and have beneficial effects in abdominal surgery. Working hypothesis: 1. Administration of n-3 enriched nutrition therapy including will modulate the inflammatory response and improve cognitive function after cardiac surgery. Specific Aims: This project will test the impact of perioperative enteral n-3 fatty acids ProSure, Abbott Nutrition) in elderly patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery. Primary endpoint is CD one week postoperatively. Methods: The investigators will investigate 400 patients aged 65 or older undergoing elective cardiac surgery. Half of these patients will receive supplementary of n-3 fatty acids to modulate the inflammatory response; the other half will receive an isocaloric nutritional supplement without n-3 fatty acids (Ensure Plus, Abbott Nutrition). Otherwise the treatment of the patients will not be influenced by this study. Cognitive function will be assessed preoperatively, 7 days and three months postoperatively. C-reactive protein, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, S-100B, and neuron specific enolase will be monitored as markers of systemic inflammation and delirium.
An important step during a gastric bypass operation for the treatment of morbid obesity is the measuring of the small bowel length. At several reoperations we found a length increase of the lowest part of the small intestine of up to 80% compared to the measured length at the initial operation. On the one hand, this reflects a normal technical error of small bowel measuring due to the variable state of contraction of the bowel, but on the other hand, it could also be due to a compensatory increase in intestinal length after the operation. New protocols allow measuring of the small bowel length by MRI. Comparing the preoperative and later on several postoperative measurements by MRI with the initial intraoperative length measuring should allow to validate the new MRI protocol and in the same time quantify the eventual small bowel length increase. We plan to include 20 patients in this study.
The purpose of this study is to determine if adding ASA404 to docetaxel chemotherapy makes the cancer treatment more effective in patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the long-term clinical and functional performance of the P.F.C. Sigma Rotating Platform TC3 knee system in revision knee surgery and to determine whether the implant design results in a longer-lasting knee replacement.
Study Design: Single-centre, block randomised, blinded, controlled, phase IIIb, parallel group pilot study. Primary Objective: • To evaluate the effect of the administration of ferric carboxymaltose (Ferinject®) with or without erythropoietin vs. no treatment (standard therapy) on the preoperative anaemia status in patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery Secondary Objective: - To gain informations for the design of a possible follow-up study - To evaluate the effect of the administration of ferric carboxymaltose (Ferinject®) with or without erythropoietin vs. no treatment (standard therapy) on pre- and postoperative Hb levels, iron status, transfusion rate, days until discharge. - To evaluate the tolerability and safety of Ferinject® Study Centres: This is a single centre study Patients: A total of 75 completed patients (50 patients in the intravenous iron treatment groups and 25 patients in the no treatment group will be recruited.
A two-stage prospective observational cohort study in scleroderma patients to evaluate screening tests and the incidence of pulmonary arterial hypertension and pulmonary hypertension
The investigators evaluate if intravenously applied THC (Cannabis) reduces postoperative Nausea and vomiting. THC will be given during anesthesia before emergence. We measure how long and how effective it reduces PONV
The EchoCRT trial evaluates the effects of Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) on mortality and morbidity of subjects with heart failure due to left ventricular systolic dysfunction, already receiving optimized HF medication, with a narrow QRS width (< 130 ms) and echocardiographic evidence of ventricular dyssynchrony.
