This study will evaluate the noninferiority of Stribild® (elvitegravir/cobicistat/emtricitabine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (E/C/F/TDF)) single-tablet regimen (STR) relative to regimens consisting of a nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) plus Truvada® (FTC/TDF) in maintaining HIV-1 RNA < 50 copies/mL at Week 48 in virologically suppressed, HIV-1 infected adults. This study will also evaluate the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of the two regimens through 96 weeks of treatment.
Cigarette smoking is the most harmful and quitting smoking is very difficult. Despite quitting, it is very difficult to stay quit for long term. In Ottawa the investigators are very lucky to have designed and developed the Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation ("Ottawa Model"). This project is an end result of pain staking research. The Ottawa Model has been implemented very successfully to the hospitalized patients and has shown very promising results of higher quitting rates. Our objective is to modify the Ottawa Model to suit the needs of patients attending out-patient respirology clinics. The investigators aim to apply the modified Ottawa Model along with the SmartCard to the adult smokers who attend the investigators out-patient Respirology clinic at the Ottawa Hospital. The investigators aim to train a nurse in clinical aspects and implementation of the protocols related to the Ottawa Model. The trained nurse will contact the smokers attending the clinic. Those subjects willing to participate in this study will be divided in to two groups. One group of subjects will get counseling and SmartCard on the day of the clinic and follow-up phone calls. The SmartCard is worth $110 toward the purchase of quit smoking medications (i.e. nicotine patch/gum, varenicline, or bupropion). The subjects can re-deem the card at the investigators hospital pharmacy. Those in the control group will be followed-up as the investigators are currently doing i.e. with standard smoking cessation counseling from the clinic physician and the nurse, +/- prescription for smoking cessation aids without access to the study nurse and the extra counseling or SmartCard. The investigators aim to find increased quitting rates in the group getting on-site access to the smoking cessation aids with the Smartcard and counseling. There are no studies implementing the Ottawa Model along with the SmartCard in out-patient respirology setting so far. The Ottawa Model has proven to be very successful in the in-patient subjects. Thus, the investigators believe, the investigators can modify the Ottawa Model and make it fit the out-patient Respirology setting and increase the quitting rates.
The combination of PARP inhibitor (ABT-888) with a proteasome inhibitors (bortezomib) have demonstrated significant anti-myeloma effects in preclinical lab and animal studies. The goal of this phase I trial is to evaluate in patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma the safety, toxicity profile and tolerability of ABT-888 (Veliparib) administered on a schedule including twice daily oral dosing for 14 days followed by 1 week rest in combination with standard dosing of Bortezomib.
Deficits in working memory (WM) performance are the most significant cognitive impairments in schizophrenia (SCZ). It has also been shown that WM performance is contingent on the cortex synchronization, a process that relies on brain inhibition. Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) has been demonstrated as an effective treatment for patients with SCZ and has been shown to increase brain inhibition and improve cognitive performance. In this study the investigators intend to: - evaluate rTMS as a treatment for WM deficits in SCZ - evaluate rTMS as a method to increase WM performance in healthy individuals - determine if improvements in WM performance are related to enhanced synchronization of brain networks - determine whether genetic polymorphisms predict cortical function and treatment response - evaluate the influence of rTMS treatment on brain structure.
The study is an open label, randomized phase 3 study of MM-398 with or without 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) and Leucovorin (also known as folinic acid), versus 5-FU and leucovorin in metastatic pancreatic cancer patients who have progressed on prior gemcitabine based therapy.
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that CD5024 1% cream is more effective than its vehicle when applied once daily, at bed time, during a 12 week period in subjects with Papulopustular Rosacea (PPR) and continues to be safe up to 12 months.
The investigators are now proposing to compare two laser techniques for treating Benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH); Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HOLEP) versus (greenlight) XPS which is a recently available technology in our center and is more efficient hence our choice to include patients with any size prostate. This will confirm whether the two techniques are equivalent in efficacy and safety independent of size as well as cost. The two techniques are available world wide as standard of care
Arterial catheterization is painful and is associated with patient stress and anxiety. Analgesia is usually provided by subcutaneous injection of local anesthetic. An alternative is topical anaesthesia, such as Rapydan which is a novel topical anesthetic patch containing 70 mg each of lidocaine and tetracaine. We therefore tested the hypothesis that Rapydan patch analgesia is non-inferior to subcutaneous local anesthetic.
Plan of investigation: This is an observational cohort study to determine the effect of OSA, independent of other risk factors, on postoperative vascular events. The study is conceived, designed and will be conducted, and analyzed independent to any company. There is no commercial sponsorship.
The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of syringe size on the amount of time it takes a health care provider to administer a known volume (900 mL) of resuscitation fluid to a non-clinical, toddler-sized, model. The investigators hypothesize that syringe size will impact fluid resuscitation time.
