This multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial will evaluate the efficacy and safety of carboplatin/paclitaxel and carboplatin/paclitaxel/bevacizumab with and without pictilisib in particpants with previously untreated advanced or recurrent non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Particpants will be randomized to receive 4 cycles of carboplatin (C)/paclitaxel (P) and either pictilisib or placebo, with (participants with non-squamous NSCLC) or without (participants with squamous NSCLC) bevacizumab (B). Anticipated time on study treatment is until disease progression or intolerable toxicity occurs. Participants in placebo arms with disease progression may cross over to open-label active pictilisib.
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that CD5024 1% cream is more effective than its vehicle when applied once daily, at bed time, during a 12 week period in subjects with Papulopustular Rosacea (PPR) and continues to be safe up to 12 months.
This proposal will explore muscle function (strength and endurance) in men and women suffering from statin-induced muscle symptoms. The mechanisms responsible for these muscle symptoms will be explored. Also, the investigators will assess the potential usefulness of vitamin D supplementation in a randomized control trial.
This is a prospective and open label study that aims to enroll approximately 1200 patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) not previously treated with Pradaxa® and free of gastrointestinal symptoms (GIS) for at least 2 weeks prior to enrolment. Approximately 125 sites in North America will be recruited. Patients who report GIS during the 3 month treatment period will be randomized to one of two management strategies, and data documenting the intensity and duration of the GIS will be collected.
This study will compare the serum uric acid lowering effects, clinical benefits, and safety of lesinurad in combination with allopurinol to allopurinol alone in subjects with gout who have had an inadequate response to allopurinol.
The primary objective of this study was to collect additional safety of INC424 in patients with Primary Myelofibrosis, Post Polycythemia Myelofibrosis or Post-essential Thrombocythemia Myelofibrosis, who either received prior treatment with commercially available agents or who have never received treatment.
The purpose of this study is to find out what effects, good and/or bad treatment with a new combination of drugs, cyclophosphamide, topotecan, and bevacizumab has on the patient and their cancer. The medications, cyclophosphamide and topotecan, are standard drugs often used together for the treatment of cancer in children with either Ewing's sarcoma or neuroblastoma. Bevacizumab is an experimental drug called an antibody that targets a protein important in the growth of cancer cells called vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). VEGF is made by tumor and other surrounding cells to help make blood vessels needed for the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. The way that bevacizumab works is to stop the cancer cells from making their own blood supply, causing the tumor to stop growing bigger or from spreading. In adult clinical trials, bevacizumab has shown promising anti-cancer activity in patients with cancer of the colon/rectum (colorectal) and breast. It has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in patients with colorectal cancer but not in cancers found in children. Bevacizumab has been tested in early clinical studies in children and has been shown to be safe. Other goals of this study will include research tests designed to test the following changes in the patient or their cancer: to see how the body handles and breaks down bevacizumab (pharmacokinetics), to look at changes in proteins in the blood that may affect the way the cancer responds to the combination (angiogenic profile, angiogenesis associated serum biomarkers), to look at changes in genes that may affect how the cancer responds to treatment with this combination of medications (metabolic signature), and to monitor the effects of changes in the way the body grows and develops before and after bevacizumab is given.
Patients scheduled for total knee replacements and suitable for sciatic nerve block will be randomized to one of 2 groups. Group 1 will have the nerve block performed using a standard Pajunk block needle under ultrasound guidance and with electrical nerve stimulation (ENS), and have catheter placement also guided by electrical nerve stimulation. Group 2 will have the block performed using a Sonoplex echogenic block needle and have an echogenic catheter sited, all under ultrasound (US) guidance. Group 2 will have needle location aided by ENS, but ENS will not be used for catheter location. An observer blinded to the needle type will assess the quality of needle visualisation on a recording of the US image taken during the procedure, along with adequacy of spread of local anesthetic. The primary outcome will be needle visibility, and secondary outcomes will be block success rate, block performance time, complication rate, number of needle passes per block, and adequacy of spread of local anesthetic.
The primary purpose of this study is to determine whether the hepatitis C virus continues to remain unable to be detected in subjects who were previously treated with Asunaprevir (BMS-650032) and/or Daclatasvir (BMS-790052) and achieved sustained virologic response.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether cognitive remediation as an adjunct to supported education, will result in improved cognitive functioning, symptoms, and performance in academic domains for persons with psychosis compared to supported education given alone.
