There is strong evidence that specific types of exercise can improve health and physical function in older adults. While community exercise classes exist, many older adults with chronic conditions may need guidance from credentialed exercise professionals to ensure sufficient dose and progression and to address fears or low exercise self-efficacy. Furthermore, low protein intake among older adults is common and initiating exercise when nutrition is inadequate may cause weight loss and limit gains in muscle strength. The primary goal is to determine the feasibility of implementing the MoveSTroNg program under real-world conditions, measured through referral and recruitment to the program and study retention and adherence rates.
This phase II trial studies the side effects and best dose of niraparib, and to see how well it works in combination with standard of care radiation therapy and hormonal therapy (androgen deprivation therapy) in treating patients with prostate cancer that has a high chance of coming back (high risk). Niraparib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Adding niraparib to the usual treatments of radiation therapy and hormonal therapy may lower the chance of prostate cancer growing or returning.
Patients receiving dialysis for kidney failure suffer from very high rates of sudden cardiac death due to abnormal heart rhythms and perfusion defects associated with HD treatment. It has previously been recognized that patients suffer heart injury during the dialysis procedure which may be an important factor for investigation. The study uses a simple implantable device that can monitor heart rhythms over time to gather information on the type of abnormal rhythms that occur in dialysis patients. This information will be combined with ultrasound and x-ray scans of the heart that will also be collected. The goal is to understand the relationship between the abnormal rhythms and injury to the heart during dialysis and what causes these injuries. The information gathered in this study will be used to compare the accuracy of an in house personalized computational model to predict potential cardiac injuries when patients undergo HD treatment.
Study CC-99712-MM-001 is an open-label, Phase 1, dose escalation (Part A) and expansion (Part B), First-in-Human (FIH) clinical study of CC-99712 in monotherapy or combination with BMS-986405 in participants with relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma (MM). The dose escalation part (Part A) of the study will evaluate the safety and tolerability of escalating doses of CC-99712, administered intravenously (IV) in monotherapy (Arm 1) or combination with BMS-986405 (Arm 2), to determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of CC-99712 guided by a Bayesian logistic regression model (BLRM). A modified accelerated titration design will also be used for Arm 1 and Arm 2. The MTD may be established separately for CC-99712 administered at Q3W and/ or Q4W schedules. The expansion part (Part B) will further evaluate the safety and efficacy of CC-99712 in monotherapy (Arm 1) or combination (Arm 2) administered at or below the MTD in selected expansion cohorts in order to determine the RP2D. One or more doses or dosing regimens may be selected for cohort expansion. All participants will be treated until confirmed disease progression per IMWG criteria, unacceptable toxicity, or participants//Investigator decision to withdraw.
The main purpose of this study is to characterize the long-term safety and efficacy of the drug Deucravacitinib (BMS-986165) in patients who have been previously enrolled in an applicable Phase 3 psoriasis study.
The present study is a single-group open-label investigation of the potential efficacy of Vortioxetine for treatment of 30 adult volunteers with Hoarding Disorder (HD) (flexible-dose study, with a target dose range 5-25mg). The proposed study will be the first Vortioxetine study in HD, and conducted at the Anxiety Treatment and Research Clinic (ATRC) Canada's largest academic anxiety clinic, a regional referral center for individuals with HD. The study requires a Letter of No Objection from Health Canada and the study will be approved by Hamilton Integrated Research Ethics Board (HiREB).
This is a long-term, multi-center, observational study in children 2.5 to <17 years with achondroplasia (ACH). The objective is to evaluate growth, ACH-related medical complications, assessments of health-related quality of life, body pain, functional abilities, cognitive functions, and treatments of study participants. No study medication will be administered.
The purpose of this study is to study the combined effect of WikiTrauma, a free collaborative database of clinical decision support tools, and Wiki101, a training course teaching participants how to use WikiTrauma, on the quality of care in four trauma centers in Quebec. The hypothesis that the theory-based intervention (Wiki101), in combination with use of WikiTrauma, will result in better adoption of best practices in trauma care, safer care (less complications), improved patient outcomes and less costly care in Canada.
The main objectives of this study are: i) To determine patient-level, physician-level and health system factors influencing therapeutic decisions in multiple sclerosis (MS) care by applying conjoint discrete experiments. ii) To determine the prevalence of therapeutic inertia among participating neurologists. iii) To compare clinical judgement vs. a qualitative or quantitative approach when assessing for a given case-scenario. iv) To evaluate the influence of decision fatigue in treatment decisions.
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a vitamin-like substance produced in all living human cells and naturally occurring in dietary sources. In addition to being responsible for the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), a major source of energy, CoQ10 plays an essential role in maintaining several biochemical pathways of the human body: i) it acts as a primary scavenger of free radicals, and ii) it protects membranes phospholipids from peroxidation and membranes proteins and mitochondrial DNA from oxidative damage. Despite the potential impact that it has shown in a wide array of health conditions, CoQ10 has been reported to have a poor bioavailability in humans with a slow and incomplete absorption from the small intestine. This has been attributed to its high molecular weight, strongly lipophilic nature and low aqueous solubility. To overcome the above limitations, various drug delivery systems such as liposomes, polymeric nanoparticles, polymeric micelles, solid lipid nanoparticles, nanostructured lipid carriers, self-emulsifying systems, nanoemulsions and solid and aqueous dispersions have been explored and developed to improve the solubility, the absorption and the bioavailability of CoQ10. Even though these different technologies and delivery systems were able to improve the absorption of CoQ10 and increase its bioavailability, the carriers used to deliver CoQ10 are based on synthetic products with no health benefits attributed to them. Aligned with its mission and vision to provide its clients with wellness products, Biodroga Neutraceuticals Inc developped a CoQ10 product using its patented MaxSimil technology that is based on omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) and this health product will be serving as the carrier for CoQ10. Therefore, the aim of this study is to perform a PK study using a powder product of CoQ10 and a rice bran oil + CoQ10 forms as comparators to the MaxSimil® + CoQ10 omega-3 supplement and compare their bioavailability and side effects. In this context, a randomized crossover design with a minimum of 7 days of washout between treatments will be used. The MaxSimil® + CoQ10 formulation is anticipated to provide the best vehicle to increase the bioavailability of CoQ10 with the lowest side effects for the participants.
