There are about 28871 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Canada. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Anxiety, stress and depression are common during pregnancy and in the postpartum period. The lack of empirically supported, non-pharmaceutical interventions for psychological distress in pregnancy is a significant gap in the literature, especially given many pregnant women's preference for non-pharmaceutical treatments. This study will evaluate the efficacy of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) program in reducing measures of psychological distress (e.g., symptoms of stress, depression and anxiety) in a group of pregnant women endorsing high levels of distress.
A closed loop system for diabetes care utilizing an insulin pump, continuous glucose sensing and appropriate mathematical modelling to guide insulin dosing is a goal for those with Type 1 diabetes. Yet the cost of the associated hardware will be prohibitive for many people with diabetes or their health care payers. Carbohydrate counting, insulin dose correction systems, basal bolus regimens with or without an insulin pump all facilitate glucose control but frequent adjustment to a diabetes regimen is a necessary cornerstone to successful diabetes management; if all that is used is the regimen suggested by the health care provider at a visit and this regimen is left unchanged until the next visit or contact then success will be limited. A readily available user friendly program suitable for a smart phone or tablet would have widespread applicability and benefit. The investigators hypothesize that such an app linked into a web site that facilitated review of glucose records will be acceptable to people with diabetes and improve glucose control. Our long term goal is to create an app that can advise on diabetes management.
The purpose of this Phase II dose-ranging study is to investigate pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) properties of various doses of ticagrelor followed by 4 weeks of twice-daily treatment in paediatric patients with sickle cell disease
The purpose of this study is to determine if two different probiotic strains, Lactobacillus paracasei HA-196 and Bifidobacterium longum R0175, are effective in helping subjects manage the symptoms of IBS
Using a multi-echo gradient echo sequence to calculate R2* and quantitative susceptibility maps and well as susceptibility-weighted imaging post processing the investigators hypothesize that the investigators would be able to distinguish between pseudoprogression and true progression with the use of an easily implementable sequence on clinical MRI scanners.
The objective of this study is to determine if tobramycin inhalation powder (TIP) can reduce the amount of Burkholderia Cepacia Complex (BCC) species - type of bacteria, in the sputum of cystic fibrosis patient.
Findings from this study may demonstrate how the insula contributes to reward pathways involved in addiction. There are three main hypotheses for this trial. The first is that inhibiting the insula using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) will not cause noticeable changes of dopamine release in the striatum. The second is that stimulating the insula with TMS will increase dopamine release in the striatum, and will be visualized on PET imaging as decreased radiotracer binding. The third hypothesis is that the participants will not experience major side effects from TMS on the insula.
Late Life Depression (LLD) is a serious health problem which not only causes depressed mood but also results in impairments in memory and attention. These impairments are likely to be resistant to treatment, which increases the chances of developing dementia even after successful treatment of mood. This study is a randomized controlled trial of transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) in people with LLD to enhance their cognition after successful treatment of mood with established medications. tDCS is non invasive, relatively inexpensive and portable, and has been found to be safe. This study also serves as a pilot study to assess the effects of tDCS on cognition and neurophysiologic markers of cognition among patients with LLD. Primary study hypothesis is that participants Participants randomized to tDCS will perform better on a working memory task 2 weeks and 3 months following the tDCS course.
Aim of the study is to perform a pilot study to assess the impact of Botulinum toxin on muscle tone, and caregiver burden in individuals who are cognitively impaired and who are fully dependent. The primary objective is to confirm proof of principle that paratonic rigidity and the consequences associated with it can be reduced with injection of Botulinum toxin injections resulting in reduced care-giver burden. The secondary objectives are to determine optimal time points for evaluation of efficacy in this patient population and whether the time period is sufficient for washout of Botulinum toxin effect; determine most salient and sensitive outcome measures; identify obstacles in data gathering; and lastly, to determine feasibility of battery of assessments in this pilot study.
This study will compare the safety and efficacy of Oral DS107 (2 g) to placebo in patients with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis. Oral DS107 (2 g) will be orally administered for 8 weeks, and will be compared against placebo. This study will enroll approximately 100 adult patients.
