There are about 28871 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Canada. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Compared to hemodialysis, patients on peritoneal dialysis live longer and healthier, have a higher quality of life and cost approximately $40,000 less to the healthcare system per patient per year. However, only 18% of dialysis patients in Canada currently use peritoneal dialysis because patients often feel isolated from the healthcare team and lack the confidence to manage treatments by themselves. This study will assess a telehome monitoring system (eQ Connectâ„¢), allowing for up-to-date data transmission and digital interaction between the patients at home and their healthcare team. From the patients' perspective, this technology is an easier way to communicate with their healthcare providers, track their treatment and supplies, and receive training and support. From the providers' perspective, eQ Connectâ„¢ delivers up-to-date patient data and provides an efficient way to keep track of the patients' progress. This intervention has the potential to improve the patients' clinical outcomes, quality of life, reduce the costs of dialysis to the healthcare system and ultimately empower patients to start and stay on peritoneal dialysis.
The primary objective for this study is to assess the safety and tolerability as well as preliminary efficacy of venetoclax in combination with cobimetinib, and venetoclax in combination with idasanutlin in patients with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (R/R) AML who are not eligible for cytotoxic therapy.

The investigators will conduct a proof-of-concept randomized controlled trial study to provide preliminary evidence of efficacy of a resistance exercise training program for maintaining white matter health and improving cognitive function in older adults with vascular cognitive impairment, defined as the presence of cognitive impairment combined with cerebral small vessel disease, compared with a stretch and relaxation program.
Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid that people need to obtain in their diets. Amino acids are the building blocks for protein, which is required to form tissues in the body. It is well known that pregnant women require more protein in their diets, but the exact amount for each amino acid is undetermined. To find out how much of phenylalanine pregnant women require, the investigators plan to study pregnant women in early and late gestation with a modern minimally invasive technique.
Evaluate the safety and efficacy of the ZELTIQ CoolSculpting System using a specialized surface applicator for non-invasive subcutaneous fat reduction in the upper arm.
The implantable-cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) is a small medical device used to treat dangerously fast and potentially life-threatening heart rates. For patients at risk, the ICD can detect an abnormal rhythm and provide life-saving therapy by delivering a shock. ICD therapy has risks and benefits that should be weighed from each patient's perspective. An ICD battery needs to be surgically replaced 4 to 7 years to ensure ongoing function. At present, the majority of these batteries are automatically changed without eliciting patients' preferences. There is a need for a better way to engage with patients. Patients want to be involved in their healthcare decisions, yet more than half of patients with an ICD do not know that ICD replacement is optional. To ensure that patients are receiving treatment that they value and want, members of the interprofessional team should ensure that treatment decisions align with patients' expectations, values and preferences. This rests on the principle of shared decision making in which members of the healthcare team and patients deliberate together to arrive at a decision which best reflects the preferences and values of the patient. To facilitate the achievement of this goal, a patient decision aid (PDA) can be used. As a result, the investigators developed PDA for ICD replacement. The purpose of this feasibility trial is to collect preliminary data to test the feasibility of conducting a larger trial, and to evaluate the PDA for its acceptability and ease of use. Eligible and consented participants facing ICD replacement will be randomized to receive the decision aid or to usual care. The investigators will assess if this decision aid can improve participants' knowledge on ICD therapy and the replacement surgery, increase patients' perceived involvement in the decision, and determine whether their actual choice reflects their personal values.
Quizartinib is an experimental drug. It is not approved for regular use. It can only be used in medical research. Adults might be able to join this study after bone marrow tests show they have a certain kind of blood cancer (FLT3-ITD AML). Participants will have an equal chance of receiving quizartinib or placebo along with their chemotherapy.
Ticagrelor, a more potent P2Y12 inhibitor, has been shown to reduce major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in acute coronary syndromes (ACS). It is increasingly used as a first line therapy in ACS. However, more potent P2Y12 inhibition has been associated with increased bleeding. This may be of particular concern for patients with ACS who require coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG). In particular, the timing for cessation of ticagrelor before proceeding to CABG is unclear. RAPID TITRATE CABG is a randomized vanguard study to evaluate the feasibility and preliminary safety of a strategy of early versus delayed CABG in ACS patients initially treated with ticagrelor and to identify potential mechanisms underlying benefits or complications of early bypass surgery.
Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is a life-saving procedure in patients with blood cancers, but only 25% of transplant candidates have a sibling donor. A matched unrelated donor can be found for 60% of patients but this number is lower for non-Caucasians. Cord blood (CB), another source of stem cells, has major advantages over unrelated donors including immediate availability, better permissiveness in immune mismatches between donor and transplant recipient, better availability for non-Caucasians, and less graft versus host disease, a complication frequently seen after transplant which negatively affects quality of life. Unfortunately, the use of CB is still limited in adults because of the small number of stem cells. UM171, a molecule with hematopoietic stem cell expansion properties, has been shown to increase cord blood stem cells 13 fold. In this trial, Investigators will use UM171 treated CB in patients who need a transplant but lack an acceptable donor.This protocol seeks to test the safety of CB cells expanded with UM171, and to determine the kinetics of engraftment as well as the minimal cord blood unit cell dose that when expanded achieves prompt engraftment.
