This study will evaluate the effects of elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ELX/TEZ/IVA) on cough and physical activity using wearable technology in CF participants.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of a 4-week heart-based meditation practice wellness workshop on burnout and emotional wellness in corporate employees. Corporate employees can be defined as individuals who work in large institutions with greater than 300 employees. The specific aim of this study is to assess changes in scores measuring symptoms of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment using the Maslach Burnout Index. We hypothesize that the meditation wellness practice will be associated with reduction in burnout for those who take part in the meditation program in comparison to the participants who did not meditate and participate in the wellness program.
This is a Phase 2, randomized, placebo controlled, multi-center study in subjects with mild to moderate IPF. Eligible subjects will be randomized to receive placebo or ENV-101 as a daily oral dose for 12 consecutive weeks of treatment. Following treatment, subjects will be observed for an additional 6 weeks.
This study is part of the development and validation of a non-invasive lung screening test which aim to identify early stage lung cancer in patients at high risk for lung cancer.
Cannabis users who experienced a psychosis are particularly vulnerable to cannabis-related harms, which can include worse psychotic symptoms and more hospitalizations. Unfortunately, few psychosocial interventions exist that aim to decrease these harms. Instead, most focus on ceasing cannabis use which is rarely appealing to cannabis users. Furthermore, face-to-face psychotherapy often remains inaccessible to people with psychosis mostly due to lack of trained clinicians. Alternatives such as e-interventions have the potential to increase access to treatment and decrease clinicians' workload. Among cannabis harm reduction approaches are the protective behavioural strategies. These strategies do not encourage nor discourage cannabis use. Instead, they recommend behaviours for safer cannabis use. For example, these strategies include: 1) avoid driving a car under the influence of cannabis, 2) avoid mixing cannabis with other drugs and 3) purchase cannabis only from a trusted source. In the present pan-Canadian study, we will test the first e-intervention called CHAMPS (Cannabis Harm-reducing App for Managing Practices Safely) for cannabis harm reduction adapted for young adult cannabis users who experienced a psychosis. CHAMPS is a smartphone application that includes 17 strategies for safer cannabis use, a personalized consumption goal and a consumption journal. The goals of this study are 1) to confirm whether CHAMPS is acceptable to participants and 2) to test whether it works, notably by positively impacting participants' health and cannabis consumption habits.
This Phase 3, randomized, Double-blind, placebo-controlled, 2-arm, parallel-group, multicenter study with randomized withdrawal will evaluate the efficacy, safety, and durability of KBP-5074 in adult participants who have stage 3b/4 chronic kidney disease (CKD) (estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] calculated using the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration [CKD-EPI] formula [eGFR {EPI}] ≥15 to ≤44 mL/min/1.73 m^2) and uncontrolled hypertension (systolic blood pressure (SBP) ≥140 and <180 mm Hg and taking 2 or more antihypertensive medications.
A single center randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effect of a post-discharge mobile health application on 30-day re-admission and patient reported outcomes following elective colorectal surgery
Knee replacements are the second most common surgery in Canada. Most patients recover very well but research consistently shows that 1 in 5 patients still have pain many months after surgery. Doctors often prescribe opioid medications for pain after surgery (e.g. Percocet, hydromorphone, codeine). These medications can be helpful for some people, but they can also be dangerous, particularly when used for a long time. Many patients don't like the way opioids make them feel and would prefer alternative pain management strategies. Some people become addicted to opioids, have a difficult time reducing the dose of opioids, or have lasting health problems after using them. People in this study will be randomized to either have usual care or a new pathway designed to improve pain control and decrease opioid use after knee replacements. This study will have an intervention coordinator who will assess patients before surgery and who will follow up with patients regularly after surgery to make sure their pain is controlled and to avoid long-term opioid use. This study will use education, physiotherapy, psychological therapy, ice/cold, and non-opioid pain medications. As pain medications may work differently in different patients, the coordinator will check on each patient to look for pain control and assist to reduce the amount of opioids used after surgery. This study will help people have safer and more effective pain management after surgery which may lead to better recovery, higher satisfaction, and a lower risk of being harmed by opioids after surgery.
The goal of this study is to understand if SLT performed at low energy is as effective as SLT performed at standard energy, and also to see if repeating SLT at low energy once a year will prevent or delay the need for daily eye drop medications better than waiting for SLT to wear off before repeating it.
The study will focus on cardiac blood and imaging biomarkers to facilitate early recognition of patients at risk for myocardial injury after COVID-19 vaccination. Ultimately, the intention is to identify patients at risk, reduce adverse events, and determine the need for longer-term follow-up in patients with myocardial injury after vaccination.
