The purpose of this study is to investigate the safety and effectiveness of a medication called CellCept in treating refractory (has not responded to other treatments) interstitial cystitis. CellCept belongs to a class of medications called immuno-suppressants. Immuno-suppressants work in the body by reducing the immune system's ability to produce certain reactions that can cause inflammation. In some people, the inflammation produced by their immune system can damage healthy tissues and cause symptoms of pain and discomfort. CellCept is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in patients who have had an organ transplant. When used in combination with other drugs, CellCept helps to prevent the rejection of the transplanted organ and is used widely in patients who have received kidney, liver and heart transplants. CellCept is also frequently used but not FDA approved for the treatment of severe rheumatoid arthritis which is a disease caused when the body's immune system acts against healthy tissues in the joints. Due to its special activity, CellCept may be useful in treating certain inflammatory diseases or conditions like interstitial cystitis.

Cetrorelix (CET) Pamoate Regimens in Patients With Symptomatic Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH)

Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH) is a common and bothersome condition of aging men. It is characterized by an enlargement of the prostate occurring in human male over the age of 50 which increases in prevalence with age, and among those aged 50 to 80, about 40% report moderate or severe urinary symptoms of prostatism. The aim of treatment is to improve patients' quality of life which primarily depends on the severity of the symptoms of BPH. Current treatments of BPH have a benefit / risk ratio which leaves room for improvement. For this study, study medication (Cetrorelix pamoate or placebo) is administered by injection in the buttocks (Intramuscular). All patients completing the double-blind portion (Week 0 to 52) are eligible to receive the active drug during the open-label part of the study (Week 52 to 90).

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a structural curve of the spine with no clear underlying cause. Bracing is currently the standard of care for preventing curve progression and treating AIS. However, the effectiveness of bracing remains unclear. The purpose of this study is to compare the risk of curve progression in adolescents with AIS who wear a brace versus those who do not and to determine whether there are reliable factors that can predict the usefulness of bracing for a particular individual with AIS.

Analgesic Effect of Intranasal Calcitonin on Patients With Fractured Ribs

This study, which will be conducted at the emergency room of the Sacré-Cœur hospital, requires the recruitment of 60 subjects and involves some telephone follow-up. Calcitonin administered as an intranasal spray is already used to relieve pain caused by broken vertebrae and we seek to determine if it can be as efficient in the case of pain caused by broken ribs.This study aims at testing the hypothesis that subjects suffering from the accidental fracture of one or more ribs will get relief through the intranasal spraying of calcitonin and/or will use less opiate medication for pain relief (a combination of oxycodone chlorhydrate and acetaminophen called Percocet®).

AVE1625 is a new potent and selective cannabinoid 1 (CB1) antagonist in clinical development for the treatment of cognitive impairment in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy on cognitive impairment of 3 doses of AVE1625 using a new cognitive battery called MATRICS (Measurement and Treatment Research to Improve Cognition in Schizophrenia) in schizophrenic patients. The secondary objectives are to measure the efficacy of AVE1625 on functional capacity of the patients using a specific scale called UPSA2 (University of California San Diego Performance-based Skills Assessment 2) and to assess the safety of the compound.
