There are about 28871 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Canada. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The goal of our research is to increase live birth rates in infertile women and to reduce the incidence of aneuploidy leading to miscarriage and trisomies. We hypothesize that an age related mitochondrial dysfunction reduces the availability of energy in the oocyte and contributes to abnormal segregation of chromosomes during the meiotic division leading to oocyte aneuploidy. Based on preliminary evidence we have obtained in aged mice, we propose that dietary supplementation with Co enzyme Q10 in older women will improve mitochondrial function in the oocytes, leading to a decrease in chromosomal non-disjunction and resulting in embryos with a normal chromosomal complement. Our primary outcome measure will be determination of oocyte chromosome number by multiplex PCR based assay of polar bodies biopsied at the time of IVF. Outcomes of this proposal will enable us to address the mechanisms of ovarian aging and may explain etiology of decreased fertility in older patients. In addition, our work will add to the feasibility of single embryo transfer, thereby avoiding multiple pregnancies and their associated cost to the health care system and to society.
The incidence of chronic pain after breast cancer surgery (CPBCS) is high in women diagnosed with breast cancer. Similar to other chronic postoperative pain conditions, existing treatments for CPBCS do not always work. Adopting the concept of using pain relieving measures prior to surgery rather than after it, may lead to decreased postoperative pain levels. Soy has been shown to have pain-relieving properties and may reduce the risk for developing chronic post-surgical pain. The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of adding soy protein to the diet before surgery on the development of chronic pain.
The primary aim of this IMN 1207 follow-up study is to confirm the effect of a cysteine-rich non-denatured whey protein isolate formulation IMN1207 (20g daily) versus casein (20 g daily) on the reversal of weight loss (cancer-related wasting) over a 40 week treatment period in non-small cell lung cancer patients with or without conventional therapy, i.e., chemotherapy or radiation. And to test the hypothesis that over a period of 66 weeks observation period which includes a 6 months follow-up period, increases the survival of these patients.
The purpose of this study was to determine if maintenance therapy with ofatumumab would prolong remission in patients with CLL who have responded to second or third line treatment. This study would also evaluate the safety of ofatumumab maintenance compared to observation (the current standard of care). This study was co-developed with the HOVON and NORDIC CLL group and would be conducted as a collaborative effort with GSK.
The purpose of this study is to determine the change in median radiation exposure time and median procedure time following guided radiofrequency (RF) ablation among subjects undergoing treatment for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation with either the CARTO® 3 or the NavX(TM) System. It is hypothesized that described features will reduce the median radiation exposure during the CARTO® 3 system-guided procedures compared to the NavX(TM) system-guided procedures.
The EVIDENCE trial is a randomized controlled trial comparing the therapeutic effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the Precision® Spinal Cord Stimulation with that of reoperation as a treatment of pain in patients with Failed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS). FBSS is defined as persistent or recurrent pain following one or more lumbosacral spine surgical procedures. Surgical procedures that can result in FBSS can be categorized as either decompression or decompression followed by fusion with or without instrumentation. The pain of FBSS is categorized as neuropathic, which involves pathological nerve activity and is commonly characterized by patients as shooting or burning and/or nociceptive, which signals actual or impending tissue damage or inflammation.
Study Design: A, multinational, double blind, placebo-controlled pilot RCT involving 80 patients in the general ICUs of 30 centres. Most patients will be recruited from within Canada; however cases will be recruited from international sites. This study will be conducted under the auspices of the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group (CCCTG) and the International Forum for Acute Care Trialists (InFACT).
This is a phase 2 study to evaluate the efficacy of single-agent erlotinib versus oral etoposide in patients with recurrent or refractory pediatric ependymoma.
This is a prospective, non-randomized, observational, multicentre (5 sites) study in which subjects that have surgically-correctable Stress Urinary Incontinence undergo a TVT SECUR operative procedure. The study will collect preoperative urologic testing, medical history, and subject quality of life patient questionnaires, Intraoperative procedural data will be collected. Postoperative complications, urologic, testing, and subject questionnaires will be collected at intervals up to 24 months. The anatomic position of the device will be characterize by transvaginal ultrasound testing. To determine the rate and/or improvement rate of patients who have received the Gynecare Secur device after 12 months and after 24 months.
This phase 2b study is designed to assess the long-term efficacy (24 weeks) of MPC-4326 in combination with a 2-3 drug optimized background regimen (OBR) relative to the efficacy of a 3-4 antiretroviral (ARV) regimen in treatment experienced, HIV-1 infected subjects.
