The purpose of this study is to compare Overall Survival (OS), Progression Free Survival (PFS), objective tumor response rate, duration of response, and safety in patients treated with E7389 versus the Treatment of Physician's Choice (TPC) in patients with locally recurrent or metastatic breast cancer.
The purpose of this study is to prospectively assess the long-term outcomes (benefits and risks) associated with entecavir (ETV) therapy as compared to other antivirals approved for the treatment of chronic HBV infection. For the China substudy, patients randomized to entecavir will have safety and efficacy assessments performed during the first year of the study.
This is an open-label, international, multi-center study designed to provide access to pazopanib for subjects who have been enrolled in the Phase III renal cell carcinoma study (VEG105192) and have progressed on placebo. Subjects will receive 800 mg pazopanib once daily. The study treatment will continue until subjects experience disease progression, unacceptable toxicity, withdrawal of consent, or death. The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of pazopanib for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma. The secondary objectives of the study are to assess response rate (defined as complete response or partial response), progression-free survival, and overall survival. Response rates will be collected per investigator assessment (no central review). Subjects will have a CT/MRI scan every 6 weeks until week 24 and every 12 weeks thereafter.
The primary objective of this study is to assess whether a single dose of rhBMP-2/CPM administered at the fracture site via percutaneous injection, in combination with standard of care, accelerates fracture union and return to normal function in subjects who have a closed diaphyseal tibial fracture when compared to standard of care alone.

Anemia has been demonstrated to be a common finding in patients with heart failure (HF). Previous studies in hospitalized patients with HF have found a prevalence of anemia ranging from 15% to 63%. More importantly, anemic patients with HF have increased morbidity and mortality. The mechanisms underlying anemia in HF are multifactorial, involving mild to moderate forms of anemia of chronic disease and ferropenic anemia. The clinical impact of iron supplementation in HF patients who have a relatively preserved renal function and either chronic disease anemia, ferropenic anemia or both remains largely unknown. The route of iron administration that could be most clinically effective is also unclear. Thus, the primary aim of the IRON-HF study is to assess the effects of iron supplementation alone (IV or PO) on parameters of functional capacity in HF patients with anemia with decreased availability of iron.
This study will evaluate the longer-term glycemic effect of two medicines approved for initial treatment of type 2 diabetes. The study consists of a 2 week screening period (2 study visits), followed by an 80 week double-blind treatment period (11 study visits). Also, a sub-study was included to look at changes in bone mineral density (BMD) at the lumbar spine.
Harmonic scalpel is a new surgical instrument. Its use has been recommended in patients submitted to total thyroidectomy. Few randomized controlled trials has been published. However they had small sample sizes, used intermediate outcomes and included different surgical procedures. Our objective is to asses the use of Harmonic scalpel in patients submitted to total thyroidectomy using surgical complications, operative time, drainage volume, postoperative pain, length of stay and costs as outcomes. Our hypothesis is that Harmonic scalpel decreases operative time,drainage volume, postoperative pain, length of stay and costs without increasing surgical complications
The primary objective of this study is to assess whether fracture union is accelerated in subjects with humeral fractures (proximal,diaphyseal) treated with conservative therapy (standard of care) and a single dose of rhBMP-2/CPM compared to subjects who receive standard of care alone.
Multivitamins (MVi) are broadly used by cancer patients to improve overall health and energy. Fatigue is a common symptom in cancer patients including those receiving radiation therapy. We conducted a trial of MVi versus placebo in patients with breast cancer (BC) undergoing radiation therapy (Rxt) to evaluate if MVi would affect fatigue and quality of life. We randomized patients at the beginning of Rxt treatment to either placebo or Centrum Silver® (Wyeth-Whitehall laboratory). At the middle of the radiation treatments patients were switched from placebo to MVi and vice versa. Patients answered to the EORTC QLQ C-30 quality of life (QOL) and Chalder Fatigue Questionnaires at the beginning, the time of switching and at the end of Rxt. We found that both groups experienced significant decreases in general and physical fatigue at the end of the course of placebo compared to the assessment prior to this treatment. We also observed significant improvements in functional and symptoms in the patients on placebo. When we compared different groups of patients we also observed significantly lower rates of physical and general fatigue in the patients who had just finished a course of placebo as compared to patients finishing course of MVi. We conclude that MVi do not improve radiation related fatigue, and may in fact have a deleterious effect on fatigue and decrease QOL in patients with BC undergoing Rxt.
