NCT ID: NCT04037475 Completed - Clinical trials for Photodynamic Therapy

Treatment of Herpes Labialis by Photodynamic Therapy

Herpes
Start date: January 1, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Lesions of herpes labialis are caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and cause pain and aesthetic compromise. It is characterized by the formation of small vesicles that coalesce and rupture forming extremely painful ulcers, that evolve to crusts, dry desquamations until their complete remission. Currently, the treatment of these lesions is done with acyclovir. Although it diminishes the symptomatology, it causes viral resistance and does not prevent the recurrence of the lesions. It is known that photodynamic therapy (PDT) has numerous advantages, among them: the reduction of the time of remission, and does not cause resistance. A total of 30 patients with herpes labialis in the prodromal stage of vesicles, ulcers, and crusts will be selected to participate in the study and randomized into two groups: G1 control and G2 experimental. After signing informed consent, patients in group G1 will undergo the standard gold treatment for cold sores with acyclovir and simulated PDT treatment. Patients in the experimental G2 group will be treated simulating the gold standard treatment of herpes labialis (placebo) and PDT.

NCT ID: NCT04036539 Completed - Clinical trials for Low-Level Light Therapy

Photobiomodulation on Molar Verticalization With Mini-implant

Start date: November 15, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The objective of this study will be to evaluate the effect of photobiomodulation on the acceleration of the orthodontic movement of molar verticalization and its effect on pain and inflammation of the periodontal tissues. Thirty-four healthy patients aged 30-60 years, who need to recover the prosthetic space for oral rehabilitation after loss of the posterior inferior dental elements and inclination of the adjacent element, will be randomly divided into 2 groups: G1 (control group) - verticalization by mini-implant + PBM (photobiomodulation) simulation (placebo); G2 (experimental group) - verticalization by mini-implant + PBM. The movements will occur with the aid of mini-implants and elastomeric chains ligatures. The PBM will occur with diode laser application, 660 nm (nanometers), 100mW (milliwatts), receiving 1J(joule) per point, 10s (seconds), 10 points (5 per buccal and 5 per lingual) and radiant exposure of 25 J / cm². The crevicular gingival fluid (FGC) will be collected to analyzed Interleukins IL1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10(Interleukins) and TNF-α (tumor necrosis factor) by ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay). Radiographic shots will be taken each month to ascertain the amount (in degrees) of verticalization. To evaluate the pain, the Visual Analogue Scale will be used in all the consultations, and to evaluate the quality of life, the OHIP-14 (oral health impact profile) questionnaire will be applied. Analgesics will be given and the number of drugs will be counted. If the data are normal, they will be submitted to the Student's t-test. The data will be presented as means ± SD(standard deviation) and the value of p will be defined as <0.05.

NCT ID: NCT04023708 Completed - Clinical trials for Dengue Virus Infection

Observational Study to Evaluate the Safety of CYD Tetravalent Dengue Vaccine (CYD-TDV) in Pregnant Women and Their Offsprings Inadvertently Exposed During Pregnancy

Start date: March 11, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

Primary Objective: To evaluate the safety of CYD-TDV in pregnant women and their offsprings inadvertently exposed during pregnancy or up to 30 days preceding their last menstrual period (LMP) with regards to maternal, pregnancy, birth, neonatal and infant outcomes. Specifically, the frequency/rates of these outcomes will be: (i) described, and (ii) compared with population-level background incidence rates prior to the introduction of CYD-TDV immunization (i.e., external unvaccinated comparator). Secondary Objective: To describe: - the characteristics of women exposed to CYD-TDV during pregnancy or up to 30 days before the LMP - the characteristics of CYD-TDV pregnancy exposure with regards to number of doses, dose intervals, and trimester of exposure.

NCT ID: NCT04023461 Completed - Clinical trials for Atrial Fibrillation Paroxysmal

Isolation of Pulmonary Veins With PVAC GOLD in Elderly Patients

PVAC
Start date: June 29, 2017
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

It is a prospective, randomized and double-blind clinical trial involving an invasive technique for isolation of pulmonary veins (PVAC gold) in relation to clinical treatment during an one year of segment. The patients included have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (aged 65 years and older) refractory to antiarrhythmic treatments that do not have structural and / or ischemic heart diseases. This trial employed quality of life scores prior to the study and during the sixth and twelfth month of the segment, electrocardiograms and holter of 24 hours. The proposed imaging tests was the transesophageal echocardiogram before each procedure. The cerebral MRI was performed in the 24 hours post invasive procedure and Angio-tomography of the pulmonary veins in the 6-month segment.

NCT ID: NCT04021290 Completed - HIV Infections Clinical Trials

Regimen Switch to Dolutegravir/Lamivudine Fixed Dose Combination From Current Antiretroviral Regimen in HIV-1 Infected and Virologically Suppressed Adults (SALSA)

Start date: November 11, 2019
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this study is to determine if virologically suppressed Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Type 1 infected adults on a current antiretroviral regimen (CAR) (including 2 nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors [NRTIs] plus a third agent) remain suppressed upon switching to dolutegravir/lamivudine (DTG/3TC) fixed dose combination (FDC). The main objective of the study is to demonstrate the non-inferior antiviral activity of switching to DTG/3TC FDC once daily compared to continuation of CAR over 48 weeks in virologically suppressed adults living with HIV-1. The study will also evaluate information regarding the safety and health related quality of life. The study will include Screening Phase (up to 28 days), a Randomization Phase (up to Week 52) and a Continuation Phase (post Week 52). The Continuation Phase is not applicable for participants in Sweden and Denmark. Approximately 490 participants will be randomized in 1:1 ratio to receive DTG/3TC FDC once daily for up to 52 weeks or continue their CAR for 52 weeks. Participants in the DTG/3TC FDC arm who successfully complete up to 52 weeks of treatment will have the opportunity to continue receiving DTG/3TC FDC once daily in Continuation Phase.

A Research Study Comparing a New Medicine Oral Semaglutide to Sitagliptin in People With Type 2 Diabetes

PIONEER 12
Start date: July 29, 2019
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This study compares 2 medicines for type 2 diabetes: oral semaglutide (a new medicine) and sitagliptin (a medicine doctors can already prescribe). Participants will either get oral semaglutide or sitagliptin - which treatment is decided by chance. Participants will get 2 tablets a day to take first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Only 1 tablet has study medicine in it. The other tablet is a dummy medicine (placebo). After taking the semaglutide tablet, participants may not eat or drink anything for at least 30 minutes. After the 30 minutes, participants must take the sitagliptin tablet. Then participants can have their first meal of the day and take any other medicines they may need, including their metformin. The study will last for about 7 months (33 weeks). Participants will have 8 clinic visits and 1 phone call with the study doctor. At all 8 of the clinic visits, participants will have blood samples taken.
