There are about 10004 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Brazil. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The phase III trial is designed with an aim of determining the efficacy of Investigational Product TRC150094 in concurrently reducing non-traditional risk factors for CV risk i.e., HbA1c, MAP and non-HDL cholesterol. This study will be a randomized, double blind, parallel group, placebo controlled, multi-centre, multinational study in 1250 subjects. All the study subjects will receive once daily dose of TRC150094 45 mg or placebo tablets in addition to their standard of care, for 24 weeks followed by roll over to a safety extension phase of 26 weeks.
The primary purpose of the proposed research is to establish Reference Values (RVs) for micronutrients (MN) and macronutrients in human milk. The investigators' research to date has revealed highly variable milk MN concentrations among populations, and very low values in some low income countries (LICs) likely caused by poor maternal status and/or diet but RVs are needed to interpret these values. During the past year the investigators conducted a review of human milk nutrient composition, and formed a Technical Advisory Group (TAG) which developed the current proposal. Here, the investigators are conducting a longitudinal project on well-nourished women and infants. The Mothers, Infants and Lactation Quality (MILQ) study is a multi-center cohort project, investigating breast milk nutrient composition in well-nourished women across the first 8.5 months of lactation in four different populations. The countries involved are Denmark, Brazil, Bangladesh and The Gambia. Exclusive breastfeeding is an eligibility criterion up until the second post-partum study visit (between 1 - 3.4 months postpartum), with the exception of the first week after delivery. Other data collected on mothers and infants, including maternal and infant nutrient intake and status, morbidity, milk volume, and infant development, will inform interpretation and support application of the results. While the priority is to develop RVs for MN, other analyses will include human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) and proteins, and free amino acids (FAA) in infant plasma. Thus, with the samples obtained the investigators will perform (a) laboratory analyses of milk, plasma and urine nutrients to construct RVs for global application, (b) analyses of HMOs and proteins in milk, and (c) metabolomic analysis of FAA and other metabolites in infant plasma. By request of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), colostrum and fecal microbiota samples will also be collected and stored for later analyses.
This study aim analyze the immediate effects of conventional transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and Burst TENS combined or not with cryotherapy in patients with non-specific low back pain. All subjects will be submitted to an evaluation of the painful sensation, through the numerical rating scale, and pain threshold, through algometry, before, immediately after the intervention and 25 minutes after.
It is well-known that muscle weakness and deconditioning play an important role in low exercise capacity of patients with HF. Interestingly, not only peripheral muscles are impaired, but also respiratory muscles. Studies have shown that patients with HF may have, in addition to decreasing maximal inspiratory muscle strength and endurance, metabolic and structural impairments in diaphragm fibers. Moreover, exercise capacity and weakness of inspiratory muscles have been associated with low quality of life and poor prognosis, which make the addition of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) reasonable in cardiovascular rehabilitation. The specifications of the loads to be imposed during IMT is the main factor determining the outcome. Studies of IMT have highlighted the need for a fixed inspiratory workload during exercise. Thus, purpose of this report was to perform a randomized clinical trial of the effects of addition of high-intensity vs. low-intensity IMT to combined aerobic and resistance Exercise in patients with heart failure.
In view of the wide variety of mechanized endodontic instrumentation systems, the ideal would be that the choose of this system based on the anatomical characteristics of the canal and the biological precepts. In teeth with lesions, contaminated dentin should be removed. However, in many systems, the manufacturer's approach disregards the fact that in wider root canal, instruments used in the apical third small diameter (less than 0.40 mm) may not touch the walls at the final apical. Therefore, the establishment of the initial apical file (LAI), the first instrument that measures the resistance of the walls in working length, could be a criterion in the choice of which system to use, and how many files work within the root canals after LAI determination. However, there is a lack of studies that demonstrate that LAI determination affects the degree of cleaning achieved, as well as the impact that LAI-based instrumentation may have on microcracks formation, canal transportation, postoperative pain and quality of obturation. In this way, the investigators propose a study in vivo performed, in patients from 8 to 18 years of age, therefore in large root canals. The protocol recommended by the manufacturer will be compared by means of a prospective randomized clinical trial, with the addition of the XP Endo finisher and with the protocol based on the initial apical file evaluating postoperative pain, exacerbation between the sessions, the quality of the obturation and periapical radiolucency repair. Considering that currently performing endodontic treatments using mechanized instruments is taught in undergraduate courses throughout the country, studies of this nature help the execution of a endodontics more critical and effective.
Cervical cancer is the third most frequent neoplasm in Brazilian women (estimated risk of 15.33 cases / 100,000 women by 2014), behind breast and colorectal cancer. This high incidence is explained by the pre-neoplastic lesions of the cervix being probably related to the practice of unsafe sex and to a poor local immune response against HPV. Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection affects people of any age, although it is more common in young people, probably due to increased sexual activity in that period. The association between high-risk HPV and anus neoplasm in men and women with immunodeficiency or immunosuppression has been confirmed and measures related to surveillance are standardized. In patients without immunodeficiencies, this association is still unclear, which may contribute to the lack of adequate standards to diagnose HPV and prevent cancer of the anus. The frequency of the cancer of anus previously considered low, is currently in considerable elevation, mainly squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The causal relationship between this virus and cancer of the cervix and the anus is established. These facts have motivated the inclusion of this disease as STD, which justifies the necessity of adopting surveillance measures in the clinics of sexual, gynecological and urological diseases. Cancer of the anus, when diagnosed in the early stage, makes healing possible with less aggressive treatments, but in the advanced stage, abdominoperineal amputation is necessary. Concerned about possible anal cancer, some gynecologists have referred patients with genital HPV to search for anal infection.
Thirst is defined as the desire to drink water. The perception and satiation of thirst constitute an interconnected network of neuronal, physiological and hormonal mechanisms that act simultaneously. In the oropharyngeal cavity are ionic channels called Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin 8 stimulated by cold temperatures and menthol, which aid in the control and decrease of the thirst intensity for providing refreshment and satiety without, however, the necessity of fluid intake In high amounts.
This study will seek to evaluate the predictability and efficacy of a Computer Aided Design-Computer Aided Manufacturing and additively manufactured polycaprolactone and hydroxyapatite scaffolds in these defects compared to traditional guided tissue regeneration. 40 gingival recessions associated with interproximal tissue deficiency will be divided into two groups: control group (autogenous bone + collagen membrane; n = 20) and test group (autogenous bone + scaffold; n = 20).
Costa ES, Izar MC, Fonseca FAH, França C, Tria H. The benefits of green banana biomass consumption in patients with diabetes mellitus. Federal University of São Paulo, São Paulo, 2015. According to the Guidelines of the Brazilian Society of Diabetes, Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a heterogeneous group of metabolic disorders associated with microvascular complications, hyperglycemia, resulting in a higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Currently, it is estimated that the world population with diabetes is 382 million people and it is expected to reach 471 million in 2035. About 80% of individuals with diabetes live in developing countries where the epidemic has greater intensity. In the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial and UK Prospective Diabetes Study demonstrated that intensive glycemic control (HbA1c ~ 7.0%) reduces chronic microvascular complications. The resistant starch (RS) is defined as starch and products of its hydrolysis are not absorbed in the small intestine. The green banana presents significant levels of RS, and it is considered a source for the intake of this substance. These foods have physiological functions in the intestinal regulation in glycemic control and delayed gastric emptying. To our knowledge, there are no long-term studies with DM to prove the benefits of resistant starch use. The objective of this study is to assess the benefits of green banana biomass consumption by patients with Pre DM and DM. Considering the possibility of improving glucose, lipid profile, increasing the secretion of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), insulin, adiponectin, and reduction in inflammatory markers IL-6, PCR.
Persistent rotational instability after standard ACL reconstruction have been extensively described, and it has been shown to keep straight correlation with worse outcomes post-operatively (Chouliaras 2007, Kocher 2004). Anterolateral ligament (ALL) injury have been shown to play a relevant role in the genesis of rotational instability of the knee (Claes 2013, Helito 2013). Many anatomical publications have defined the ALL as a distinct ligament (Claes 2013). Meanwhile, some authors have proposed the association of ACL and ALL reconstruction in selected ACL-deficient individuals to further enhance knee stability postoperatively (Sonnery-Cottet 2015, Dodds 2014). Lack of consensus still predominates among ACL experts regarding the reliability of the combined ACL and ALL considering the controversy that involves both ALL anatomy and biomechanics (Guenther D 2016, Kittl C 2016). Clinical trials with high level of evidence and long term follow-up may be useful in order to determine the reliability of the combined procedure in the clinical setting. So, the present study aims to compare the effectiveness of the combined ACL and ALL reconstruction with isolated ACL reconstruction in individuals with high-risk of ACL re-rupture, through a randomized controlled trial.
