There are about 13446 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Belgium. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
To examine the effects of the addition of clonidine to diuretics on the mobilization of ascites at short-term (diuretic response and requirement of diuretics) and long-term (readmissions for tense ascites and requirement of diuretics) in cirrhotics with increased sympathetic nervous system. Secondary objectives were to study neuro-hormonal,hemodynamic effects and side effects of clonidine and diuretics.
A study to test for non-inferiority of preprandial HIIP [also known as AIR® Inhaled Insulin Powder][AIR® is a registered trademark of Alkermes,Inc.] compared with preprandial injectable insulin (insulin lispro) with respect to HbA1c after 6 months of treatment in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. This study is designed also to examine insulin antibody levels in AIR Insulin -treated patients compared with injectable insulin-treated patients with type 1 diabetes. The present study is intended to determine if preprandial AIR Insulin is non-inferior to preprandial injectable insulin (insulin lispro) with respect to mean change in HbA1c from baseline to endpoint at 6 months in patients with type 1 diabetes.
Resistance to antibiotics is a major public-health problem and studies linking antibiotic use and resistance have shown an association not a causal effect. Utilizing the newer macrolides, azithromycin and clarithromycin that are commonly prescribed for respiratory infections, we investigated the direct impact of antibiotic exposure on resistance at the individual level.
The purpose of this study is to provide early access of TMC125 to HIV-1 infected patients who have failed multiple antiretroviral (ARV) regimens. Information on safety and tolerability aspects of TMC125 in combination with other ARVs in treatment-experienced HIV-1 patients with limited treatment options will be assessed. Available data regarding the effectiveness of the drug will also be collected. To be eligible, patients should be failing their current ARV regimen or be on a treatment interruption, should have previously received 2 different protease inhibitor (PI) containing regimens and be at least 3-class experienced (protease inhibitors [PI], nucleoside/tide reverse transcriptase inhibitors [N[t]RTIs] and non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors [NNRTIs]) or at least 2-class experienced (PIs and N[t]RTIs) with primary NNRTI resistance. TMC125 will be administered in combination with an investigator-selected background of additional ARVs from the list of allowed medications.
This study will compare two treatment strategies (doubling the dose of inhaled steroids or adding a long acting beta2 agonist to the inhaled steroid at the same dose) in children not controlled by inhaled steroid alone at medium dose. The fixed combination SERETIDE 100/50 one inhalation twice daily will be compared to FLIXOTIDE 100 two inhalations twice daily.
The study will compare the difference between lanreotide Autogel and placebo on progression free survival in patients who have an endocrine tumour in the pancreas or intestines.
To obtain additional data on safety and efficacy of the Express stent implantation in the treatment of stenosed or occlusive atherosclerotic disease (de novo or restenotic lesions) in the iliac arteries (common or external).
To evaluate the efficacy of quetiapine fumarate sustained release (Seroquel SR™) in combination with an antidepressant versus an antidepressant alone in patients with Major Depressive Disorder. PLEASE NOTE: Seroquel SR and Seroquel XR refer to the same formulation. The SR designation was changed to XR after consultation with FDA.
This is a 16 week multicentre, multinational, randomised, double-blind, double-dummy, placebo-controlled, parallel group study to evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of tiotropium compared to salmeterol in moderate persistent asthmatic (GINA step 3) patients homozygous for arginine at the 16th amino acid position of the beta-adrenergic receptor (ADRB2). Following an initial 4-week run-in period on salmeterol MDI patients will be randomised into the 16 week double-blind treatment period in which they receive either tiotropium once daily administered from the Respimat inhaler or salmeterol twice daily administered from the hydrofluoro-alkane Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI), or placebo twice daily. After the 16 week treatment period all patients will receive salmeterol MDI twice daily for four weeks. The patients perform daily morning and evening peak flow (PEF) and Forced Expiratory Volume in the First Second (FEV1) measurements with an electronic peak flow meter throughout the study. Daily data on asthma control and use of rescue medication are recorded using an electronic diary included in the electronic peak flow meter. On study visits the Mini-Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (Elizabeth Juniper) is administered, pulse and blood pressure and pre-dose pulmonary function testing (FEV1 and Forced Vital Capacity) are performed.
This is a multi-center, prospective, non-randomized study. Approximately 90 patients from up to 16 centers will be entered in the study. Patients will be followed clinically for up to 5 years post-procedure. All patients will have a repeat angiography at 6 months follow-up. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the Genous Bio-engineered R stentTM in conjunction with optimal statin therapy (80mg of atorvastatin), in the treatment of elective patients with up to two de novo native coronary artery lesions. The Genous stent received CE mark for the intended indication in August 2005
