NCT ID: NCT04705246 Not yet recruiting - Hyperacusis Clinical Trials

Role of Exposure in Hyperacusis

Start date: December 7, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study focuses on patients with a primary complaint of hyperacusis. Hyperacusis has been defined as 'abnormally reduced tolerance to sound'. It shows a high comorbidity with tinnitus, the perception of sound in the absence of a sound source. For the period of one month, hyperacusis and tinnitus severity and exposure to sounds will be evaluated by use of Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) in all participants. A novel approach to assessments, EMA prompts participants during their daily life to answer short questionnaires, increasing ecological validity and minimizing the risk for recall and memory biases. At a randomized time point during the one-month period, participants will individually receive a single psychoeducation session (1h) delivered by an experienced audiologist. The goal of the study is to investigate if the psychoeducation session leads to an increase in exposure to sound and a decrease in hyperacusis severity.

NCT ID: NCT04613765 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Hematological Malignancy

A Mixed Method to Study Adherence to Oral Anticancer Medications in a Multilingual and Multicultural Setting

MADESIO
Start date: December 1, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Patients with haematologic malignancies are increasingly treated by Oral Anticancer Medications (OAMs), increasing the challenge of ensuring optimal adherence to treatment. However, except for Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) or Acute Lymphoid Leukemia (ALL), the extent of non-adherence has rarely been investigated in an outpatient setting. In Belgium, the only available data suffers from critical underrepresentation of patients from minority diverse population. In the context of increasing migration, the identification of differences in access and drug use that may lead to health disparities is crucial. Based on a sequential mixed method study design, our objectives are to measure adherence to OAMs in two subgroups of non-migrants and migrants with various haematological malignancies, to identify the associated risk factors and to explore the representations that come into play with regards to illness and adherence behaviors. Essentially, the MADESIO protocol will contribute to assess whether and why patients with migrant backgrounds are a risk group regarding adherence to OAMs.

NCT ID: NCT04594538 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Observational Study in COPD Patients Evaluating the Quality of Life

TRISNOOZE
Start date: December 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This non-interventional study aims to collect information on the patient's quality of life, as well as the quality of sleep when stepping up to a fixed triple maintenance therapy (Trimbow®) as per physicians' decision, independent from study participation, and to assess its effectiveness in daily life, in general practitioner setting.

NCT ID: NCT04575753 Not yet recruiting - Delirium Clinical Trials

Evaluating the Role of Pre-existing Resolvins in the Resolution of ICU Delirium

Start date: October 7, 2023
Phase:
Study type: Observational

As patient management is improving, more and more ICU survivors are being confronted with cognitive dysfunction and this well after their hospital stay. In the ICU, delirium rates have been reported to be as high at 81%. Delirium is associated with patient and family stress, increased hospital costs, increased duration of stay, escalation of care and increased mortality and morbidity. The physiopathology of ICU cognitive impairment is complex and involves an inflammatory cascade Recently, the role of 'resolvins' derived from omega-3 fatty acids has been studied in the resolution of inflammation. Therefore, this hypothesis of this study is that ICU patients with higher serum levels of resolvins at ICU admission, ICU day 2 and day 5 will have a lesser degree of cognitive impairment on day 5 of ICU stay.

NCT ID: NCT04524156 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

COVID-19 : Transcutaneous pO2 and pCO2 as Predictive Factors for Acute Respiratory Destress Syndrome in Patients Affected With SARS-Cov-2

COVID-pO2-RAAS
Start date: October 4, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The first case of a person infected with SARS-Cov-2 virus can be tracked back on November the 17th, 2019, in China. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic. On April 13, COVID-19 is affecting 210 countries and territories worldwide, about 2 million positive cases have been officially declared along with 115.000 deaths. The real number of infected and deaths is scarily higher, considering that up to 65% people are asymptomatic and thus, not tested. The percentage of patients with COVID-19 needed for intensive care unit (ICU) varied from 5 to 32% in Wuhan, China. It was up to 9% in Lombardy, Italy. According to available data from Lombardy, 99% of patients admitted to the ICU needed respiratory support (88% invasive ventilation, 11% non invasive ventilation). The aim of the present investigation is to test the hypothesis whether transcutaneous partial O2 and CO2 pressures may be reliable predictive factors for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) development in hospitalized clinically stable COVID-19 positive patients and to clarify the role of the Angiotensin Converting Enzyme 2 (ACE2) and its final product, angiotensin 2 (Ang II) in the pathogenesis of this systemic disease. We also aim to test the hypothesis that plasma concentration of Clara Cell protein (CC16) and surfactant protein D (SPD), which are a biomarkers of acute lung injury, are severely decreased in COVID-19 positive patients and the plasma concentration is related to the severity of lung injury.

NCT ID: NCT04475003 Not yet recruiting - Health Literacy Clinical Trials

Health Literacy Among Caregivers of Children With IgE-mediated Allergy With Risk of Anaphylaxis

Start date: September 30, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Research on health literacy among caregivers of children with IgE-mediated allergy at risk of anaphylaxis (life-threatening allergic reaction). Health literacy is a person's ability to understand health information so that they can maintain or improve their health and quality of life (of themself and children). The aim of the study is to test the general knowledge of anaphylaxis. Furthermore we test the extent to which caregivers consider themselves able to recognize and to treat anaphylaxis.

Study type: Interventional

This study regarding oncological patients for rehabilitation after specific cancer therapy involves three aims: (1) to evaluate the predictive value of myocardial work parameters on the improvement of exercise performance after rehabilitation, (2) to determine which echocardiographic parameters are more suitable in predicting cardiac dysfunction, and (3) to evaluate the correlation between echocardiographic parameters and fibrosis detected by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR).

NCT ID: NCT04437901 Not yet recruiting - Atrial Fibrillation Clinical Trials

COVIDAR - Arrhythmias in COVID-19

COVIDAR
Start date: June 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE: There is very limited literature available on the arrhythmia occurrence in the context of an infection by the SARS-CoV2 virus. On the other hand, treatment strategies against the SARS-CoV2 virus may carry a risk of QTc prolongation and pro-arrhythmia/sudden death which may be amplified by concomitant use of other QTc-prolonging drugs and/or ion disbalances. COVIDAR is an international initiative to monitor the occurrence of arrhythmic events in the context of the SARS-CoV2 infection, to identify potential modifiable predisposing factors to reduce their incidence and to inform the best arrhythmia management options in this patient population. MAIN OBJECTIVE: To describe the incidence and type of arrhythmic events in the context of the SARS-CoV2 infection. STUDY DESIGN: patient registry (observational). Patients will not undergo any additional investigations. Only data that is generated during routine clinical care will be collected. STUDY POPULATION: Patients admitted to the hospital highly suspected of or with confirmed COVID-19.
