Primary Objective : Compare the risk of occurrence of Grade3-4 cumulative peripheral sensory neuropathy (PSN) relative to cumulative dose of oxaliplatin between treatment group and placebo group. Main Secondary Objective : Compare the response rate (RR) between treatment group and placebo group in order to ensure that the efficacy of the chemotherapy is not compromised by the addition of xaliproden to the chemotherapeutic regimen. This phase III clinical trial is studying how well cisplatin-based chemotherapy and/or surgery works in treating young patients with stage I, stage II, stage III or stage IV adrenocortical cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cisplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving more than one drug (combination chemotherapy) may kill more tumor cells. Giving chemotherapy before surgery may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed. Giving it after surgery may kill any tumor cells that remain after surgery.
