There are about 10460 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Australia. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The primary purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of silicone hydrogel contact lenses on conjunctival flora over a period of 6 months of daily wear. A secondary aim is to compare the levels of microbial contamination of silicone hydrogel lenses after daily wear.
Depression is very common in people who have experienced a traumatic brain injury. Few treatments have been found to be effective in treating depression in this situation. We intend to investigate the effectiveness of a form of brain stimulation, transcranial magnetic stimulation, which has been found to be effective in treating depression in people who have not undergone a brain injury. By evaluating new methods of treating depression in this population, we hope to increase the options available for treating people in this difficult situation. Furthermore, problems with aspects of thinking are also commonly present post brain injury, as in some individuals with depression. Various brain stimulation techniques, including transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) have been shown to have a positive effect on cognition. We also intend to investigate whether a therapeutic effect on cognitive deficits is present following TMS, in addition to any effects on depression. New treatment protocols will be developed, and understanding of the pathology and treatment of post traumatic brain injury depression will be enhanced.
This open-label extension trial will assess the long-term use of Lacosamide monotherapy and safety of Lacosamide monotherapy and adjunctive therapy in subjects with partial-onset seizures who were previously enrolled in the conversion to monotherapy trial (SP902).
The purpose of this study was to establish the efficacy and safety of alemtuzumab (Lemtrada™) as a treatment for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS), in comparison with subcutaneous (SC) interferon beta-1a (Rebif®). The study had enrolled participants who had not previously received MS disease-modifying therapies. Participants had monthly laboratory tests and comprehensive testing every 3 months.
The primary objective of this study is to demonstrate the safety and tolerability of deferiprone in subjects with Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA). The secondary objective is to evaluate the efficacy of deferiprone for the treatment of FRDA, as assessed by a 9-Hole Peg Test (9HPT), Timed 25-Foot Walk (T25FW), Low-Contrast Letter Acuity test (LCLA), International Cooperative Ataxia Rating Scale (ICARS), and Friedreich's Ataxia Rating Scale (FARS). The tertiary objectives are to evaluate the effect of deferiprone on: 1. cardiac function as measured by changes in Left Ventricular Shortening Fraction (LVSF), Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction (LVEF) and Left Ventricular (LV) mass using echocardiogram (ECHO), 2. quality of life using quality-of-life surveys, and 3. functional status using Activities of Daily Living (ADL).
The purpose of this study is to assess the ability of eltrombopag to maintain a platelet count sufficient to facilitate initiation of antiviral therapy, to minimise antiviral therapy dose reductions and to avoid permanent discontinuation of antiviral therapy. The clinical benefit of eltrombopag will be measured by the proportion of subjects who are able to achieve a Sustained Virological Response (SVR).
This is a randomized trial to estimate the activity of R-ICE plus SGN-40 vs. R-ICE plus placebo in patients with DLBCL. The study will assess safety and tolerability and will measure any additional clinical benefit observed in patients receiving SGN-40.
This study will evaluate the safety and efficacy of two different dose regimens (12 milligrams [mg] and 24 mg) of IV MOA-728 versus placebo in shortening the time to return of bowel function in participants receiving opioid analgesia administered via patient-controlled anesthesia (PCA), and who had undergone repair of large (greater than or equal to [≥]10 centimeters) ventral hernias with or without a mesh prosthesis via laparotomy or laparoscopy.
Fundamentally, the trial aims to conduct a gold-standard test of the clinical impact of SAM-e in the treatment of depressed mood and general symptoms of fibromyalgia (FMS). As such, salient clinical and pathological parameters will be assessed over an 8-week period in 60 patients who will be provided with either SAM-e or a placebo preparation . On the basis of previous literature, it is hypothesised that patients in the active treatment group will experience moderate but significant improvements across the clinical measures, and that these gains will be significantly greater than any reported in the placebo group. All patients will provide informed consent. All procedures will be conducted under medical supervision and the preparation itself is very safe when used in the manner proposed for the trial
The main objective of the trial is to compare Invasive Disease-Free Survival (IDFS) of patients randomised to treatment with adjuvant chemotherapy alone or to adjuvant chemotherapy with 1 year of bevacizumab. The secondary objectives of this trial are to: - compare Overall Survival (OS), Breast Cancer-Free Interval (BCFI), Disease- Free Survival (DFS) and Distant Disease-Free Survival (DDFS) of patients randomised to treatment with adjuvant chemotherapy alone or to adjuvant chemotherapy in combination with 1 year of bevacizumab - evaluate the safety and tolerability of bevacizumab An exploratory sub-study (not reported here) was to identify biomarkers (from tumour or serum) predictive of toxicity and for the level of benefit from the addition of bevacizumab to standard adjuvant systemic treatment.
